Cannot Get into Breaking Bad. Should I Keep Watching?

I started watching the show based on word of mouth, and I'm nearing the end of Season 1. However, so far it's been utterly boring. So boring that I'm wondering if I should continue watching or go find something else.

My best friend says it gets better, but not until way later in the show. Either way, I'm not seeing anything particularly mindblowing about the show yet.

I've always found season 1 and 2 the best but it got super slow and uninteresting in seasons 4 and 5.

Just finish season 1, it's a short season anyway

If you find it downright boring by the end of season 1 then you obviously shouldn't continue. It's not going to shift dramatically into becoming a different kind of show.

I really like the show. Liked it from the very beginning, but it has to be one of the most overrated shows of all time.

If you're not liking it, don't worry. Don't force yourself into watching something you don't enjoy.

Watch Mad Men instead.

I probably wouldn't continue. I think the show gets better and better, but maybe its not for you. Maybe you bought into the hype and it's hard for things to live up to them. Maybe it just isn't interesting to you. It happens.

Honestly I don't see how someone who's not enjoying season 1 will enjoy the rest.

Yes they're better seasons but I don't think enough for someone to go from finding it boring -> edge of your seat.

As someone who also had difficulty getting into it at first it's definitely a show that rewards your investment. I say stick with it and if you're not into it by mid or late season 2 you can probably dump it.

I wouldn't bother. I had the same issue, and the Walt-power fantasy just wasn't working for me the way it did for others.

I felt the same way, though I did watch most of the show except for the last season.

My main problem is that I had no one to root for as the main character was so damn stupid with his choices. He had options, but chose not to take them because of his pride, which I found pathetic.

I am weird though because I MUST have a character I relate to on some level to enjoy a show.

The show didn't take off for me until halfway through season 3. Stick with it and if at the end of season 3 you feel the same then give it up

The show may get better as it goes along, but it doesn't become a different show. The tone and style of drama stay roughly the same, but the stakes just get higher and more dramatic. If you aren't feeling it now, I'd say you won't later. Though I'll never understand people who say it's boring but that's just how opinions work I guess.

I can't do meandering hour-long-episodes tv shows that seem to be all the rage the lately. They seem like slots and I'd rather watch two or three better-paced episodes of almost anything else with that time.

People dig it though, if you're not enjoying it I wouldn't recommend trying to slog through. It's a LOT of hours.

95% of the population have the "Breaking Bad is the Greatest Show Ever" receptor. There is a chance you don't, I am sorry about your flawed genetics.

He was a dude who was trampled on and ended up becoming a megalomaniac upon his successes. IDK, I found it relatable despite detesting him. Also, it had the whole arc of basically being a retelling of those olden stories about people getting rich and then everything falling apart from their greed. It's a timeless tale.

A more extreme case of this would be watching the movie Nightcrawler where we have a protagonist who is a irredeemable sociopath and the audience can relate to him being a dude having a hard time finding a job and wanting to get good at something he likes.

Joke post?

Anyway Season 1 and 2 aren't the best OP, but worth getting through for the later seasons. It's basically a show that continuously builds towards one huge climax.

It depends. If you like dour crime shows. Among dour crime shows, i do think its easily among the best. And its not too dour, like dour in the bad way. It's not as tedious and oppressive as a Norwegian noir show.

But if you don't like that sort of show, you might not be able to enjoy it. For what its worth, the show has tons of great characters, a great twisty turny plot, and some absolutely badass moments. And it does get better. Season 1 is the weakest. Which crime shows have you enjoyed in the past? That will be a good indicator if this is worth all that time or not.

Starting with season 4 the series approached a pace that made it hard to enjoy. Just very slow for the first 8 or so episodes of season 4 and similarly season 5 had long stretches where it was very boring.

I know there were big moments in both seasons also but that was my main impression of the final seasons of BB.

Please don't watch Mad Men if you can't even get into Breaking Bad... talk about overrated shows, mad men is a complete snorefest and slog to get through... that writing was some high school level drama garbage

Give up OP. I gave up near the end of season 2. I just didn't care for the show. Found it boring

OK, I'll bite: Compared to what?

Doesn't matter. It's not like OP can say "Game of Thrones" for example and come out without a BB defence force attacking his opinion on a TV show. If it's dull for him it's dull for him.

Lol, I really thought I'd like it after all the hype. I will probably at least finish Season 1, but what happens after that, we'll see.

I don't know if I can realistically compare it to something yet, but so far it's not giving me reasons to care about anything that's happening.

That said, I can name a show that started great and then degenerated into an irreparable mess: Lost. Sounds like Breaking Bad is the opposite of that?

Yeah, I had the same problem, I think I got through early season 4 and just dropped off and didn't have interest in finishing it. I just couldn't get into it either.

Watch Better Call Saul.

Every critic on earth disagrees with this man. Watch Mad Men.

If you endured an entire season and it bored you, stop.

You don't have to like it just because many do, that's okay.

Season 2 is also pretty average but it gets better with Season 3.
You should stick to it. Learn from the experience you had watching S1 and don't get hyped needlessly.

It's just not THAT good.

I went through the same thing. It's a slow burn. By the time season 3 ended my whole outlook on the series changed. When it was over i wanted to rewatch it. Give it more time. Trust me.

Nah, it just sounds like it isn't for you.

I agree with your friend in that it gets better. But if season 1 has you bored then the later seasons will at most give you mild enjoyment so it sounds like you'd be wiser to spend your time on something you like from the start.
