In-N-Out Burgers not coming east. Steak N Shake still secretly the best.

What the hell is an Animal Style Burguer and Fries? I've gone only once to an In N Out when I was in California (it was PACKED) and I certainly didnt order an Animal Style anything.

Also, I hate the name. What's so Animal Style about it?

it's a secret menu option, but one so well-known they have it in their system so they can charge you extra for it. Animal style fries are topped with spread, onions, and cheese, and animal style burgers are topped with spread (and onions?).

Animal style burgers the patty is cooked in mustard and they add pickles.

Portillos is awesome, their Beefs aren't.

In a pinch they are passable.

Come live in a place where there is nothing like that around. You would crave Portillo's if you had to live here. Same as Lou Malnatis not being the best pizza in Chicago. Talk to me when you live in a place where the best pizza you can get is Costco pizza.

I had already mentioned Shake Shack, Ray's Hell Burger, Five Guys in this area and my original point was that those in addition to the designer burger places mean we don't need fucking In-N-Out.

But you're still wrong. Just use the online order tool and see.

A beef, chicken, or turkey burger on brioche or wheat bun with lettuce, tomato, jalapenos, sauteed onions, pickles, red onions, AND sauteed mushrooms is $8. That includes a sauce (chipotle aioli, cilantro lime, sriracha garlic, honey mustard, bbq sauce, grain mustard, buttermilk herb ranch or duke's mayo).

$8.75 if you add one of many types of cheeses.

The burgers are fucking massive and amazing.

All those places are at least twice as expensive as a In-N-Out, almost 3x for Five Guys. That's not even taking into consideration how generally everything is more expensive in CA, so who knows what any of those places would change if they were in SF or LA instead of the east coast.

You realize a Double Double is like $3.75? I don't care what kind of flavored mayo ("aioli") your burger comes with, it doesn't make it any more cost-worthy than In-N-Out's godlike spread sauce, which is also included in every burger, in addition to lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles and chilies. Here's the thing, In-N-Out doesn't need to add a million sauces and toppings to their burgers for them to be good. You're free to order them pretty much any way you like (seriously) within the fresh and delicious ingredients offered.

Anyways, I'm glad you guys don't "fucking need" In-N-Out, because you're never getting it :)

In Dubai a Caliburger just opened, they seem to be a direct copy of In-N-Out

Haven't tried the real In-N-Out yet so can't compare, but the burgers at this place are just ok, I prefer five guys since the ones in UAE are actually nicer than the US.

Caliburger opened last year(?) in Pasadena. Been meaning to try it out, but every time I'm in the area, I go to my favorite pasadena burger spot instead, Pie 'n Burger, which has my favorite sit down burger.

Tastes a million times better than it looks.

I've had the pleasure of living on both coasts and I don't really miss In-N-Out that much. Plenty of great alternatives. Now what I do miss is Jack In The Box.

I tried In N Out once. Too much lettuce, patty was tiny. Didn't really like it. It was cheap, but I'll never go again.

Five Guys is also pretty underwhelming.

Shake Shack is great though. Definitely the best burger fast food place in the states right now.

Are you insane? Jack In The Box is absolute trash, the only reason to ever eat it is because it's the only thing left open at 3am. Jesus Christ man.

My apologies.

Lines have never been a huge problem in SD because we just have so many of them.

Fuddruckers is some overpriced garbage and the decor is the most basic-ass middle aged white guy shit ever. Cost like $50-60 for my family to eat yet the burgers were worse than Wendy's FFS.

False af.

The buns are the best in chain burger joints. The patties are highly customizable even with wild game meats. The fries have great seasoning. They have a great bacon cheeseburger with avocado. And the decor is American rock and roll.

I forgot to post here again over the weekend but I went to Culver's for the first time and got a "Culver's Deluxe" fry and a drink...

I think I might be going there every time I'm in "the city" now and try more. I wish I tried Culver's sooner.

Y'all are some over dramatic mother fuckers. None of these places are "shit" and I don't expect burgers in the couple bucks range to be at all great, pretty much ever.

It's all alright to good shit.

Steak 'n Shake? Culver's? Freddie's? Ehhh. I'm not a steakburger guy. The answer is still Five Guys. Although I just moved to a state with Cook Out in it and I'm reminded they're pretty okay. But not for burgers. I get the Cajun chicken sandwich, Cajun chicken wrap, Cajun fries, and a drink for my tray. I am a ragin' Irish Cajun.

It is amazing how In N Out tastes 5x better than Five Guys at 1/5th of the price.

That would indeed be amazing. Alas, I do not live in such a world.

I love Steak and Shake, but I'd take an In n Out over a Steak and Shake. West Coast remains the best coast. :p

Culvers is pretty good too, and all over the place. Freddies, too. I think I actually like Freddys more than Steak and Shake.

Had Steak 'N Shake over the weekend. GodDAMN but that's a juicy burger, especially for the money. Fries weren't great tho, will definitely skip those next time.

I actually like 5 Guys better than In N Out, but it's about double the price for a burger and fries.

Five guys has been terrible every time I've had it; and I've given it multiple chances. A bland, greasy, sloppy flavourless mess.

Freddy's is probably my favorite.

This is basically how I feel about it. A lot of In-n-Out's appeal is price:product ratio, it's not the most amazing burger you could ever eat but for the price it's really damn good, but compared to Five Guys, it slaughters it in both categories.

I've given 5G multiple opportunities to win me over at multiple locations and both times it was bland and overpriced, I don't see how people even bring it up in the same conversation.

I'm guessing that the very reason why In-n-Out won't go east is the same reason why 5G tastes like shit in the west. Maybe it's better back in its home turf, I'll give it a shot when I visit the east coast sometime.

It's kinda weird that they are owned by Luby's now, but I think the quality went up a bit after the acquisition.

Chick Fil A exploded like crazy recently. Just you wait. All it takes to 'satisfy' these rules is building another distribution center on the East Coast, and you've got the entire eastern seaboard within reach.

It only costs $10K to start a Chick Fil A franchise.
The difficult part is getting it approved by corporate.
