I'm still waiting for one of the handful of people to at least explain what Threedog did that soured their opinions of him. Google is not being at all helpful with this.

All I want to know is whether or not Jackie Chan is cool.

Because he's the only celebrity I genuinely adore and it would break my heart if he wasn't the awesome kind-hearted bad-ass I always assumed he'd be.

Just let Jackie be cool.

Oh boy, are you in for a disappointment. He's a communist propagandist cheater.

Chinese shouldn't get more freedom, says Jackie Chan

Jackie Chan says Chinese people need to be 'controlled'

I'm not sure if it is good to have freedom or not, he said. "I'm really confused now. If you are too free, you are like the way Hong Kong is now. It's very chaotic. Taiwan is also chaotic.

He added: I'm gradually beginning to feel that we Chinese need to be controlled. If we are not being controlled, we'll just do what we want.

Chinese Redditor from Hong Kong explains how Jackie Chan is viewed at home as opposed to the well-liked guy in the West

Jackie is somewhat of an infamous sex fiend within the Hong Kong entertainment industry, quite often he has been sighted taking younger starlets into hotels from nightclubs (have personally heard stories from friends who work at clubs). His biggest scandals are probably from his numerous and quite public affairs during his wife's pregnancy, which he has gone on record to defend by saying that he was just trying to test out his best options. His irresponsibility in his love life is also why his son (known as Jaycee Chan in the west)

He consistently acts as one of the more prolific mouthpieces for the Chinese Communist Party (NOT China, see below). His statements are always incredibly inflammatory ("People's freedom should be restricted" etc.), poorly-supported, very heavily propagandized, and not to mention reductionist and biased. There is no logical or reason at play in most of his political rants. His entire strategy towards commenting on any political issue is basically "I'm famous so fuck you. Hail the Party."

He is also fiercely anti-American, which can come off as hypocritical considering that he made a considerable part of his fortune in America.

Jackie Chan named in scandalous Panama Papers

The martial arts expert and famed "Rush Hour" actor is reportedly linked to the Papers via Mossack Fonseca, the Panamanian law firm that originated the documents, according to Time Magazine. Chan owns six businesses that the firm manages.

Jackie Chan's affection for the mainland Chinese government very confusing. Doesn't he owe the majority of his early success to the Hong Kong film industry? It was still a British colony when he was doing films like Police Story, right?

YMS, Jontron, hotdiggitydemon, Dunkey, Crowbcat; all varying degrees of shitty.

Will I regret ever saying Thank God for Jim Sterling son? I'm aware of his less-than-exemplary early videos, but I've also watched him change to the point where I sometimes even watch his non-Jimquisition stuff for entertainment, and I don't even consider myself much of a gaming fan.

Edit: this wasn't a sneaky reference to his Hellblade review, which has now been withdrawn. I'm all for critics giving their honest opinions and have defended outlier critics in the past, because I think the notion of a critic worrying about what a criticism aggregator like Metacritic will do with their review score is mindbogglingly stupid.

same for me. I asked twice already and no one answered.

"If the Chinese people aren't controlled, they'll do what they want" isn't exactly going to be giving the great Eastern Philosophers a run of their money, certainly.

I give Jackie a pass just cause what he's put body through, the man's films are second to none in certain aspects.

Total Biscuit probably

Totalbiscuit had a shitty phase during the GG shit but he seems to have turned back to the good guys side. He just recently got a dude kicked out for making transphobic comments at Jesse Cox's con. It made the right-wing crazies mad as TB is no longer part of them, and now the deplorables keep harassing him in twitter replies which does a good job keeping him away from them in the future as well.

I am pretty much prepared for everyone in my life to be some form of Milkshake Duck since everyone is a little bit screwed up in some kind of thinking or actions.

I think my personal milkshake line is if they are really homophobic or misogynistic.

Actually, maybe anti-intellectualism in general is my milkshake line. Even when I enjoy indulging in New Age possibilities, the moment it goes into conspiracy levels of "science can't be trusted! It doesn't want you to KNOW the TRUTH" I immediately balk.

Don't know about James but Mike Matei is definitely in this camp. The proof is out there already so it's not a matter of if but when will he do something offensive or get called out for his past by someone with a big enough following to put the outrage gears into motion.

HOLY SHIT

Man I was starting to like him and was just now seeing his comments in the Hellblade review thread.
Eh, they're pretty abrasive, but that isn't really a milkshake duck moment for TotalBiscuit, that's his modus operandi.

I think it's totally understandable to not wanting to play a game which can erase your save file.

I looked up what happened at the con and apparently during a Q&A session of a panel, a guy asked if "liking traps is gay" 😒

I can respect TB for not tolerating that bullshit but then again that bullshittery doesn't seem out of place for the kind of community he harbours.

Unsubbed. Thank you.

GAF had one recently with that couple who bought a private street where the Uber rich lived in SF. Everyone was singing their praises for sticking it to the rich and how it was showing them how much it sucks when someone did that. Then we found out the couple worked for investment groups and they were suddenly awful and just like the people who lived there. Good times.

JonTron is a big recent one for me; I now mentally identify him as Jon "Dilute the Gene Pool" Jafari, so I can't even watch any of his content with a straight face anymore.

If anything, it definitely puts his older Game Grumps stuff in a completely different light (especially how Jon saying something racially charged off cuff, and Arin awkwardly laughing and changing the subject happened more than once).

We'll know that gaming has started to become a little closer to art when game critics aren't lambasted for exercising personal choice over what they review, or what score they give it.

That's mostly cause people are doofuses, it literally says in the OP that the husband is a real estate developer

I assume everybody is shit so I don't have a milkshake duck, except for duckroll, because he probably enjoys milkshakes

I really don't like many people in media. A few directors here and there. Would be upset if some of the podcasts I listen to turn out to be terrible people...

Idle Thumbs, Giant Bomb seem to be pretty solid.

[Jackie Chan Bomb]

Maybe it's urban legend, but for some reason I assumed the Chinese government was holding either a bunch of Jackie's property/money hostage, or it had something to do with his kids (son's drug charge?) and him trying to protect them by doing whatever the government wants.

...or I've just blindly accepted this, because, I too want Jackie Chan to be awesome.

After reading that Jackie Chan stuff, it sucks that he believes that stuff...but damn if that man isn't amazing at his craft. Not a JonTron level disappointment, but still disappointing. Still gonna watch his movies though.

I was absolutely fucking crushed when as a teenager I learned what a gigantic asshole Jackie was over in HK (toxic political ideas, known womanizer). He was one of my idols growing up as a massive fan of martial arts films.

I would say the Mega64 crew were coming extremely close to becoming my milkshake duck (or maybe they did tbh.) I haven't watched them in years so I don't know how they've been in recent times, but when I did watch them they were certainly all in on the "nothing on the internet really matters" mentality. They joked about social justice campaigns frequently (even if they agreed with the message itself) mostly cause they were riding the "more like slacktivism" train pretty hard.

I also remember some pretty tasteless jokes being told throughout the years under the guise of "look at how shitty this joke is."

Other than that I think Super Best Friends probably have some shit going on but they keep it offline. All the shit with Plague being a frequent guest and collaborator, Liam having a knack for using the n-word as shock, and the times they've told stories that basically amounted to "we were at a con and hung out with youtubers and found out that deep down were all a bunch of dirtbags" has really made me worried.

in terms of youtubers, I really hope EpicNameBro doesn't end up being a milkshake duck for me. He's basically one of the few youtubers I actually follow. Started watching his videos before Dark Souls 2 came out and have done since - started watching because of the lore behind DS, stayed because he seemed like a cool, down to earth guy. And then he released one of my favorite videos... on the surface it's just a standard video, part of a longer Bloodborne playthrough - but he was asked about his life story up until that moment and so he told it. It ended up becoming a nice tale of finding motivation when you seem to have none, of holding onto your dreams even when the world has a way of crushing them, battling depression and succeeding in ways you never imagined. It was something really intimate and honest, and I really appreciated that.

I never listened to his (short lived?) podcast beyond the first couple of episodes though, so I don't know if he managed to say something that outed him as a huge asshole or whatever. I hope not.

Yeah, I now completely refuse to watch any Grumps that were filmed when he was part of it. Danny is so much better just as a human being, and let's be honest - there's so much to watch of modern-era Grumps that you don't even miss it.

Definitely Mel Gibson for me. I thought he was the funniest dude, and then he went off the deep end with that cop encounter, and then somehow went even deeper with his leaked phone conversations. Now whenever I pass by the movie "What Women Want" on Netflix, I think "to get as far away from him as possible".

Also Passion of the Christ is a pretty blatantly anti Semitic film. That's when I first soured on Mel.

I'm in a similar boat, but I am a bit more optimistic. They had a transperson on the podcast a while back because they respected her work and were acquaintances (I forget her name, but I think she does a podcast with Jim Sterling?) and caught heat from some of their fanbase for it. Liam has infamously used the n-word, but from all the streams I've seen of his he's kept out the garbage. Matt I feel is more clueless than anything else. Woolie and Pat seem like all around good guys who tend towards self-depreciating comedy more than anything else, and although they oftentimes skirt the line in with some of their jokes, they're self-conscious enough to know when to back off. Based on the way they talk about their personal lives and beliefs on their podcast I'd be very surprised if any of them turned out to be JonTron levels of awful.

Now Pat's girlfriend Paige is another story, because checking her twitter feed she tends towards "lol triggered people/microaggresssions amirite?" and I couldn't find it but she has retweeted stuff from some questionable people. Didn't know there was something up with Plague, what'd he do?

The type that goes on Alex Jones to talk about chemtrails, fluoride in water and any conspiracy that involves systemic control of a population. He went full new-age weirdo in the early 2000s.

Not to mention in his private life it seems obvious he is just kinda shitty in general to people around him since his stable of yes-men changes every year or two lately.

Made some damn good music though.
Well shit. He really did ruin Smashing Pumpkins.

There have been other ducks, but these two really helped me understand why PoC in the US can't trust white progressives to have their backs.

Situations like this remind me of that Chris Rock bit where he talks about always expecting racism. People only seem to change for the worst.

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet

It's alright, we still have the Jackie Chan Adventures Jackie which has remained unsoiled.

Don't forget starting an internet fight with Devi Ever a MtF transexual who designs guitar pedals and calling her "him" and "he" and stuff, was really gross.

He's also spoken out against SJW's very recently and it wouldn't surprise me if he's a Trump supporter now.

Billy's written some fantastic and at times beautiful music and he's one of the most underrated guitarists of all time in my opinion and I love the Smashing Pumpkins, they're my favourite band even their more recent output isn't too bad, but the guy can be a huge cocksplat.

Theres been a lot of them (Nick Robinson being a recent one) but none of them hit me as hard as Tennapel. I liked the games he worked on growing up but they werent like obsessions, and even though while I heard rumblings about him online as a teen I wasnt socially conscious enough back then to connect the dots. Then in late 2010/early 2011 this dude had a mini resurgence. Earthworm Jim HD came out which got me to replay the originals and the Neverhood. His graphic novel Ghostopolis came out, and he started a webcomic called Ratfist. I got way into discovering and rediscovering his older stuff, bought Ghostopolis, read Ratfist when it updated, even did a few projects about his work while in art school.

And then of course he showed his ass in the ratfist comments section getting into an argument with readers and showcasing his homophobia. In hindsight i think I missed a lot of obvious tells he was a shithead I wouldve picked up on more easily today.
Fuck, this is mine for today now. Why do people have to be assholes?
