Will they do it? I don't think so. Even with the awesome support the game has had post launch, it still would cause an enormous backlash if they released paid DLC.

This is the bit I'm stuck on.

They can't continue doing what they are doing for free and I think this ARG is leading to the last big free update where the title will either be left alone or DLC be charged for.

I fear for them though. I fear that they are in a position where it will be vocally shouted about if they even dare to put a price on an update.

Yeah considering how most content updates, story patches, even new items or outfits are usually priced as DLC... a year of 3 solid free patches that pretty dramatically improve the game and have made it just a very good game, too, I'd say they've earned enough goodwill from me that I'd buy a major DLC.

That said, I never followed the game pre-release and I only just started playing it this year, not last year =p So I've no wounds or 'betrayal' to heal, so to speak haha.

The game keeps selling though. There's a reason why it got thrusted into view again. And this patch will sell a ton of units all over again.

Sure got me to buy, and feeling that same hype and excitement I had on the lead-up to release

Might actually do in-character captain logs posts of my travels like I planned to originally

As for paid expansions, if the mobile gaming audience is any indication, Hello Games will be crucified if they even try to charge for an update, especially since people are used to free updates

What I can see happening down the line is when your character get's a player model and you can buy extra customization items for real money and they keep adding to that stuff.

Wanted to wait for some updates and a sale, so it all worked out

Same. Just bought it for 15 €. Since i played around 10 hours of Elite Dangerous i'm looking forward to a bit more light and colors :)

I really expect some micro dlc in the future but i don't mind if it's cosmetic and funds more continuous updates.

Is it safe to come into this thread?

I followed the atlas path prior to the 1.3 updated but never continued to the center will this continue the story if I go to the center?

Definitely, this game is something I just really enjoy dipping in and out of and it's always on my hard drive.
Sean and his team deserve the money and respect because they seem to be devoted to making their game were they want it to be.

Same. This is my go-to chill-the-fuck-out game. I feel I got my moneys worth (personal opinion) at launch and the rest is just gravy for me. I'd gladly pay for further, larger expansions in the future, with the agreement that there would still be bigger free updates as well.

About to step back into my ship for the first time in months.
Wonder what it smells like in there.

How are freighters looking? Contemplating an immediate upgrade if that's possible, but that would mean losing all my plants. Same with my base.

Blind plan before seeing anything: Stocking up on Rigogen, dismantling my base and moving towards the center of my galaxy while completing quests on my freighter.

I haven't played this for months (since the base game, no patches). Is it a better idea to start over now that 1.3 dropped? I didn't even start the Atlas path the first time through.

Had a lot of fun getting involved in the ARG and am impressed with the 1.3 patch notes on the update., It's been quite a while since I last played however so I'm planning on restarting fresh myself.

I feel like there hasn't been much difference starting new or starting from where you left off up until this point.

I do kind of just want to start fresh though.

I might start with creative mode this weekend

Okay, so this question is only because I am legit curious, and is not to be taken as any kind of diss on the game. With the current sale I am really contemplating getting it, since I missed out on that $15 price mistake a long time ago, but what gameplay did the last few updates add? I would like to know what I can do besides roaming around exploring. Can I build based and what can these be used for? Are there descriptions for all creatures? Can I collect anything? Are there any kinds of stats?

I'm a bit disappointed by the new FoV slider for PS4. I'm super glad they added it, but even at its max setting it still feels like I'm playing through a pair of binoculars.

So, I'm returning now from since before patch 1.1 hit and decided to start survival mode. About plutonium, will I always have to refill everything if I don't land in pad or there's going to be some kind of upgrade that will reduce costs?

I'm really liking the damage and costs on the armor, but not sure if I'll endure the scarcity of plutonium.

So I just came back to the game for the update and am a bit overwhelmed.

How do I find bases? Is Antrium (which is needed for Voltaic Cells, which is needed for Storage containers) tough to find, or are some planets replete with it? I have zero slots available in my ship or exosuit (both with maxed out slots), so I'm kind of scrambling here for more space.

Thinking of starting in Survival, would that be too overwhelming for a first playthrough?

I'd say maybe do normal for a bit to orientate yourself, then try Survival. As I understand it Survival uses a different save slot so you can have a normal and survival game going at the same time. I haven't tested it yet myself, but that's what a friend told me.

I hadn't played in a few months not since 1.1 hit, I think, but this update has shunted my base to a scorching planet and twisted it 45 degrees so it doesn't fit anymore.

I need to rebuild on a different planet, preferably a pretty one with a view, but what happens to my stuff when I do? I get the rooms refunded, but what about the storage containers? Also, would making the top floor of my freighter into a base destroy the ground base or can you have both?

Also MIA after this update: My rapid fire gun on my Starship. I want that back. Do I have to do all of the base quests again to do that?

That's exactly like it works, yes.

Man, do I want to start over or just continue on my save? I haven't played since the foundation update.

Nah you just gotta be careful. I learned the game for the first time on Permadeath [Survival]. It's not difficult per se... You just need to be persistent in being careful. (disclaimer: I did 3 times trying to reach my ship lol).

Plus it was fun... I was scared shitless the first time I learned to fly haha -- 'god I hope I don't crash and die my first minute flying this thing'

Every 'first' was much more satisfying, I would like to think, because it was on Permadeath.
-first time getting trapped in an extreme storm :O (i didn't even know they existed; just suddenly everything in my vision was on fire and my shield was dropping within seconds)
-first time trying to fix my first discovered crashed ship and realizing I had no plutonium, heridium, or zinc (and no thrusters on my ship), and there were aggressive insects all around;
-first time getting stuck on an aggressive sentinel planet with no plutonium or thrusters lol;
-first time landing near a giant sinkhole I didn't see and jumping out of my ship down 50 feet and omfgbarelyintimehittingmythrusters on my jetpack at the last second

the game is really all about survival and random events so the more scary or harrowing the better IMO.

i mean, totally cool to play it on default, but similar to say, xcom, NMS is a really really good permadeath game imo. every time I flew through space in my default ship i tightened by butt a little praying i didn't get attacked haha. and still usually get out of dodge the first sight of trouble haha

So how does ship summoning work? In the other thread, some said you can summon your ship anytime if you have the resources and a full tank

Does that trivialize exploration and survival? Does ship summoning feel like a last resport (ie safety of your ship at the cost of using up your fuel)? I wanted those thrills of long treks back to my ship, planning my route, braving the elements

It depends how you view it. Some people say it frees them up to explore further away from places as there's no risk of getting stranded, so to that extent it allows you to adventure further without hesitation.

Others, like me, enjoyed the hesitancy and how it drove where I explored and for how long. Personally I'm ignoring the call ship option and playing how it was pre-patch, though I will say that having the option is nice because there were a few times before that getting back became more tedium than tension.

I'd honestly just recommend setting yourself a limit on it if you find it adversely affects your enjoyment. The game isn't balanced around it and you can just as easily enjoy it as it was.

UGH!! Thanks to the regenerated galaxy, my home base has been moved from a rainy beach resort locale with plenty of those glowy flowers in the water that you need, to a extremely snowy mountain planet with not a single drop of water....

And to top it off, ALL hired NPCs were gone, and I have to redo the whole base building questline for each NPC... Thank god for having stored about 1000 of each material that you need for the quest item crafting. But the vehicle dude doesn't understand that I've built the car geobay thrice...

Oh, and my like 100+ large Mordite farm? Now completely useless because they changed the lubricant recipe entirely and I don't know what's a good farm item anymore :lol Does anyone know what the point is of adding "fuel" to the plant boxes? My mordite flowers grow as normally regardless of fuel??

There are a lot of cool stuff they've added but this stuff is goddamn annoying >_< I also noticed some bugs, the new missions wouldn't properly show me where to go to deliver items when I got to the right system. I don't know if it's normal but one quest said that I had misplaced the item so I had to leave xD might've been some kind of new "story" I guess. I had to rebuy the item from the store to complete the quest.

The small grey/white dot that tell you which page you're on in stores and in the logs are apparently misplaced as well, now being vertical instead of horizontal. That means that anything beyond page 2 is outside the UI box's boundaries and thus invisible :)

Does anyone know how to find and upgrade the new special slots in the inventory? The game tells me to go to the original drop pods but since my regular inventory is already fully equipped, nothing seems to be happening?

I know, right? ugh, thankfully the new stuff is still cool enough to check it out, but I don't know how long my interest will keep up now since I already have maxed out all species statuses and have all trophies.

Oh, another bug it seems. My Gek and Korvax languages are already maxed out since before the update, so I can't learn any new words = the stats meter for learning words are moving is stuck on 0 :lol Vykeen is moving though. Not sure how to report this stuff, or if others already have (probably).

Yeah kinda sour about the planet re-generation, too. My home base even stayed mostly intact, but it went from a moon with pretty awesome weather and dust storms to an airless moon with about as much of interest as Earth's :p Thankfully the base itself is basically the exact same, sans some ladders, AMUs, and NPCs.

Most bitter thing is all my planets from my roleplay history are gone...

Starter planet was this cool snowy planet that I reset the game dozens of times to spawn as my starter... Now it's this ugly toxic planet :( My first main home base planet was also this cool snow planet with red-needle pines, and it's kinda a weird fungus planet now.

And the waypoint I made for my original home base -- just for nostalgia so I could go back and see where I spent a month -- got deleted, too.

Kinda feels like my headcanon or story get reset -- like all the 'history' that I went through no longer exists in the world canon, so to speak. Terrain and biome diversity changing is one thing but I wish they could have at least kept all the basics same like Gek or Snow.

Worse, at least for my gamer OCD, is my Discovery Logs for all these planets now don't make any sense. Some don't update either; a few of them did update to reflect their new environments/resources but I have others that even after I re-visited them, they're still showing, e.g Cactus Skin when they're now Fungus or something.

I mean, it's worth it I guess because the new biomes are great, but wish they could of preserved basic planet traits.

My base got fucked on the regeneration. It was flying in the air and I was on some fire planet instead of the cold planet it was before.

I restarted the game, having a much more pleasant experience actually since there is a lot more structure at the beginning.

Now I'm starting a base on this beautiful green planet

Started this game for first time ~ just got done travelling to another star system.

Can anyone tell me what am I supposed to be buying from the vendors in the space stations? I'm not sure if these are upgrades are not.

For the record, I'm not talking about the guy ehot takes star clusters.

Found my base:

Weather: Frigid (red, which means constant blizzard stoms)
Sentinels: Limited
Flora: Abundant
Fauna: Undetected (which means no fps drops because of hordes of monsters)

I'm ready to build the wall.

the-wall-elevator-game-of-thrones-lord-snow-01.png
In this game, if you carve out a cave or build a wall/outcropping and place your base within, will that protect you from storms and dangerous weather?

I don't know if it's a glitch, but I just bought a freighter that was worth 80 million more than my trade-in for absolutely nothing. I was in a 23-slot C-Class (110 million), I found a 19-slot S-Class (190 million) and I was able to purchase it for zero. Best part: the captain's name is Commander Dork. I was willing to drop 80 million just for that. Getting Commander Dork for free? Awww yeah.

Is it a glitch that I can't buy the new fancier upgrade slots?

The pro framerate is terrible again, more so than before :'( Even in the so called 1080/60 mode.

As far as I know, inside the base you are safe by any means. But if you're talking about creating a cave or just a hole to hide, yes it protects you. I used that before this patch happened when hiding from storms, usually on those huge pillars of rare resources.

I mean these ones:

lvkmegihlovvwdhcumnv.jpg

Carved a hole to wait for the night to pass, then went back at it during the day.

I've found in the past that even a slight overhang will often be enough to shelter you from environmental effects and storms.
