Nicalis reaches out to Night Trap dev to help bring game to Switch and retail

Can we now forgive Nicalis for their fuck ups last gen yet?

Seriously, Nicalis has really been going the extra mile on Switch. Such a turn around IMO from last gen, huge props to them.

I'll forgive them once they get a proper European distributor.
Can you believe that we're still missing on Binding of Isaac ?

Also had some positive things to say about working with Nintendo

I haven't kept up with it but the only thing I have heard LRG say about not making Switch games is solely about Nintendo not authorizing new publishers right now because they don't have the capacity. I haven't heard them say anything negative unless I missed something.

I rather give money to Nicalis instead of LRG at this point.

Buying anything on LRG is a massive pain in the ass now, scalpers are dominating the place.

That said, damn, Nicalis is really pushing a lot of physical titles on NS, props to them for that.

Nicalis is one of the best publishers on Switch imo. This is coming from someone in the UK who has to import all of their games. Their lineup is great and the effort put into their physical copies has been fantastic.

Nicalis is very bullish on the Switch, though I can't blame them since it sounds like BoI did really well for them. I don't know how much of an audience there is for Night Trap on the Switch, but then I'm not sure how much of an audience there is for Night Trap, period.

Thanks for the effort Nicalis but I'd rather get any other game than Night Trap. I mean, what's the point ? The game is terrible.

Given that there's a huge speculative market surrounding all the Limited Run Games titles, I'm not even sure if "selling out" indicates actual demand for Night Trap.

Oh shit, if they port Night Trap to switch, I'd be on that. Along with Sonic Mania, it'd be like having a portable sega cd :p

Someone call Howard Lincoln , I remember him telling Congress during the video game violence hearings that you would never see a game like Night Trap on a Nintendo console.

Game's fine. It's nothing amazing, but it's hardly terrible. I'm glad its gotten a second chance without hyperbolic press coverage.

That twitter post - what a boss (and yeah, I hate that term)

I know I'll start a shitstorm here but what mistakes are you guys referring to?

90s Arcade Racer for one.

Uh... Nintendo declined. How will Nicalis change that?

We don't know the full story. If I had to guess Nintendo declined the publisher because of Switch card limitations and Night Trap would have better luck under Nicalis who have shipped and are ready to ship multiple other games.

Who the hell would want to be involved with Nicalis?

It's the worst indie publisher out there.

While I'm not going to praise them for how they treat Europe, they have been shipping all of their Switch titles on time and they've been doing a rather nice job with their physical packaging without having to charge a major premium. Perhaps they've managed to find a nice vacuum on the platform as they're not having to compete as fiercely, but whatever they've been doing has been working out really well for them.

They have three games at retail now with at least one of them selling its entire first shipment (BoI)? They know what they can sell at this point or have a good ball park on estimates for smaller projects like this would be and they are probably confident.

Night Trap's a nostalgia piece, nothing much else, really.

If I was this dev, I would have been like "When you put Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+ and Cave Story on Vita". Sadly, I'm not.

Didn't know Screaming Villains had such a bad experience with Switch. Huh.

Wonder what will come of this anyway. I know the team are working on other platforms atm and have heavily hinted that Vita is one of them... so I'll probably get it there.

They declined them because they apparently aren't accepting new pubs at the moment, but Nicalis is already registered sooooo, doubt it has anything to do with the game itself.

Can't blame them considering the history.

Although I don't think that's the issue, well, at least not fully.

I cannot imagine Nintendo having even one iota of issue with Night Trap's content in 2017. The only reason anyone could have found it shocking back in 1992 was because the only games they played were Mario and Sonic. Even back then, your average episode of Tales from the Crypt was considerably more transgressive than that game was ever accused of being.
