Best Star Wars Music?

Duel of the Fates and pretty much the entirety of Revenge of the Sith's OST. I also like the music from the Naboo celebration in Phantom Menace as its a disguised version of the Emperor's Theme.

TFA wasn't very memorable to me, but I did like Rey's Theme with that flute...or was that The Scavenger?

Revenge of the Sith has a great all around soundtrack. Some of Williams best stuff in my opinion. Too bad about the movie though.

Oh god hearing Binary Sunset is gonna send me down another Star Wars rabbit hole. Time to rewatch the series and redownload KOTOR.

Think about this: in 4 months time, we will have a brand new Star Wars score, courtesy of the Maestro himself. 40 years after the release of his first Star Wars score.

Besides John Williams, I thought some of Gordy Haab's stuff for Star Wars Battlefront was pretty great; especially the various tension loops:

Yes, Gordy Haab's music & style is the closest someone has come to emulating John Williams' Star Wars music style and approaching his level of brilliance. I wish this guy would get signed on for future Star Wars films, cartoons etc. He is leaps & bounds better than Kevin Kiner. His music is also more refined and "Star Warsy" than Michael Giacchino's from Rogue One, but I'm not sure whether he could translate his talents to a full length feature film.

IMO, JW >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gordy Haab = Joel McNeely >>> Michael Giacchino >>>>>>>> Kevin Kiner

Some of my favorites include,

Binary Sunset - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2W5YPQJqUs

The Battle of Hoth - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIFLnEehNTE

Yoda's theme - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMw6ufg-g9Y

Luke & Leia - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HXwju2UXio

Duel of Fates of course - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzVBqBosf5w

The Fight Begins (Attack of The Clones) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hI-p7IK2g7s - Has a Ben-Hur thing going on.

Anakin's Dark Deeds - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAM80pXTjYQ

The Falcon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8_2K7QNtpI

Pre-sequels, I would have said the bombastic Duel of the Fates, or Yoda's wistful theme, or even the innocent but foreboding as heck Anakin motif.

Nowadays, I'm all about that surprisingly-epic concert version of The Jedi Steps.

(Though I do think Giacchino's Jyn and Whills themes are generally far too underappreciated for how good they really are)

The Force Awakens score is so good. I don't think it's as poor a lot of people seem to think it is. It's one of those scores that improves each and every time I listen to. There's so many things going on it. It puts every blockbuster score to shame.

I also like a lot of Giacchino's score, it's a bit over the place, and he's not as good as Williams, but he delivers some powerful moments & I love Jyn's theme as well.

My 2nd place would be the Batman Returns soundtrack by Danny Elfman. Third would be Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. If you haven't heard the complete scores to those, go find them now. Amazing stuff.

Somehow, the sequels to three completely different major franchises yielded some of the most amazing scores ever written, each of which harnessed the themes from their prior films and built upon them in incredible ways.

In the case of Temple of Doom, Williams just takes the Raiders march, uses it sparingly, and then adds a bunch of great new themes (Short Round, Willie, Mola-Ram etc...). He has a knack for writing sequel scores that aren't just retreads of the original.

I'd say TOD is probably his bombastic / over the top score of his entire career too. It's so much fun.

Sorry, the correct answer is this. When it transitions over at about :55 you will experience chills. This piece of music describes everything my imagination had as a child:

The Rebel Fleet/End Title

The actual tune is called Han Solo and the Princess, but this is the best version of it. It's basically the them of ESB.

It's The Asteroid Field

Has been since 1980.

Probably will be for as long as the series goes on.

Another Star Wars film might knock ESB out of that top slot (probably might happen a lot sooner than you think) but I don't know if a single cue is taking The Asteroid Field out ever.
My fave!

Whatever song that plays during the RotJ duel with Luke and Vader is. Best mix of visuals and music I have ever seen in a film.

Also, Yub Nub is the superior ending song for RotJ.

The Luke and Leia theme has the most beautiful concert version of any Star Wars theme and is probably my overall favorite.

I also think that Williams found something really special with Rey's theme and I'm very excited to hear how he will continue evolving the theme in the coming films.

Duel of the Fates and Battle of the Heroes shall forever remain the best.

However, some of my personal favorites are when when Luke faces Vader during the finale of ROTJ. Doesn't seem to have a name. Mostly the part where Luke attacks Vader furiously: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L63In39n86c

Another being during Padme's funeral and Vader's birth. It also plays during Qui-Gon's funeral as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3KpEMyl-oY&spfreload=10

Lastly, Han and Leia's theme. Mostly the version of it that plays and Leia and Chewie are fighting through Bespin. Can't seem to find it so this is all I got: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxYIyPVo_Go

Over all, John Williams' best work was from Revenge of the Sith.

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.

This one is so freaking good still. The motif. The subtle, perfect change of harmony underneath the motif. Holy shit. The prequels do have some amazing music.

Williams was at the top of his game during those movies.

It's too bad Lucas wasn't. :(

The PT is filled with incredible music. Soooo many good tracks. Listening to the PT OSTs isolated from the films themselves proves to be an amazing thing

A shame the music was kinda butchered in the film too, especially with the editing and abuse of certain themes.

And yeah Yoda's theme is great. Definitely makes me think of a noble warrior.

Not the best, but some good ones that tend to get stuck in my head and haven't been mentioned much.
Battle of Endor -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vDwqpzSrRU.

Nice in its simplicity.
Droid Invasion https://youtu.be/7LeN-3zQdQ0?t=61

Also Padmé's Ruminations. It's the quiet song from Episode 3 with the creepy female vocals. It plays a little before order 66 is issued where Anakin is alone staring out a window. I loved the mood it set by being deliberately quiet. It's a literal calm before the storm track and gives you time to mull over everything that has happened in the story to that point, and leaves you with an ominous feeling because you know what's coming too.

As for actual best, there's just too many. Binary Sunset, Imperial March, Duel of Fates, Battle of Heroes, the Emperor's Theme.

To me the PT has the best OST of all time. I mean there are not only amazing songs such as Duel of the Fates, but the variety is what it really makes a masterpiece.

The TFA score is criminally underrated. Williams may have evolved past his more melodious 80s style but there still aren't any other film composers working today who can match him.
