snowflake liberals erasing history even though george washington also owned slaves highway

I'll take the bait.

Maybe if it was the only thing George Washington ever did. Davis is first and foremost known for leading a rebellion to continue the enslavement of millions of people. Yeah, let's continue to memorialize that.

I'd mostly hear it called Jefferson Davis Highway on commercials, when they gave the official address. Most people I know just said Route One, as well.

So, let's change the name to Route One Highway.

I've always heard it called by name, though obviously we also know it's Rt 1. They tend to call it by name on traffic reports, though GPS also usually uses the name.

Union Highway? Heather Heyer Highway could be "the triple H" for short :O

I'll never understand why America has such a hard-on for a 4 year period where half the country decided to go to war to secede and keep slaves that they have 1,500 monuments celebrating said 4 year period and countless museums and streets named after those traitors.

I'm looking from the outside so maybe I'm missing something, but I don't think it's that hard to understand. Some people are still bitter about the result.

Chasing Space: An Astronaut's Story of Grit, Grace, and Second Chances
In this moving, inspirational memoir, a former NASA astronaut and NFL wide receiver shares his personal journey from the gridiron to the stars, examining the intersecting roles of community, perseverance and grace that align to create the opportunities for success.

I mean come on!!! He's even from Virginia!!

Well, the road is US 1, so its already a low-key brag, but if you want to name it after notable Virginians, you could go with Woodrow Wilson, Missy Elliot, or Timbaland.

Really difficult to say.

As tempting as it is to try and put a label on the issues behind why people try to glorify this period, it’s just not that easy. Cutting the Union like that split a lot of families apart, and a lot of Americans died bringing the country back together, and those wounds don’t heal fast.

It might just be that these (mostly) Southern states want to commemorate the struggles of people who would otherwise be lost to history. Sure, they may be traitors and losers in the grand scheme, but surely some were also good people (or so the thinking might go).

Maybe one day we’ll understand why so many modern Americans want to commemorate people who may have been good people, but were ultimately traitors and losers; until that day, we can only guess.
