It's incredible to me that this went from being one of the biggest new IP from the last generation to a complete failure, things sure change fast.

I guess now is the time I do a last playthrough of it.

Ive read the article about why it ended up being so messy and man, I wish someone just slapped them until they forgot about the hundreds planet idea. It sounds like they had no idea what to do with the game other than having hundreds of planets which apparently no one even knew how to realize...
Holy shit how can you start a project like that, how can people be so incompetent.

Anyways, its sad to think that after my next playthrough I might never play a ME game again, my favorite series.

Now it joins C&C, MGS, Rainbow Six(At least the type of RS that I loved), Supreme Commander, Saints Row and many other of my favorite series that we might never hear of again.

I just hope they wont let it die completely and just let it cool down a bit to start anew with a team thats able to pull a good ME of.

Never buying a Bioware game again. After that Dragon Age disaster where a character tells you to buy a DLC for a quest and not finishing the story with mass effect andromeda

Bioware really thinks people will buy their shitty novels and comics to see what happens after this shit show

Was hoping for the complete edition with dlc at some point to jump in but with this it's a skip I guess.

DA might be the last thing Bioware has I have any kind of lingering interest for an even that is waning. Anthem so far has nothing that speaks to me.

Such a depressing situation. Massive ME fan here and I couldn't even make it half way through Andromeda. The PS4 version was atrocious too. It's just sat on my shelf staring at me shamefully.

One of my favourite franchises in gaming ever and it feels like it executed itself. I'm hoping they will revive it with a reboot or something in I dunno 10 years or maybe. It just sucks because the universe was so interesting and could have had a lot of games and spin off's exploring this world. But Bioware and EA just had to fuck it up didn't they :(

Well, one of their books is written by a two time Hugo winner. Probably worth reading if you like sci-fi. Though that's a prequel.

I just picked it up for insanely cheap. I am about 10-15 hours in and for the most part it is scratching that ME itch. Haven't encountered any strange bugs. Picking the logical conversation options the character doesn't seem that much different than any other Bioware character. Perhaps the emotional responses are more cringy. No worse than my Inquisitor. Sara is no Femshep but few are. The story is kind of dumb and has a lighter feel to it but doesn't come off as much worse than what was in the trilogy tbh, go play those games again and the writing/story etc wasn't that great either. The combat seems better than what I remember of the trilogy, even early on. The planet hopping is kind of annoying even early and I expect it to get worse. It just takes too much time. Game has some problems but I don't see why this got savaged. Had it not released around BotW and HZD and without a bunch of bugs it might have got a better reaction. EA probably just shitcanned it over the internet reaction. Once those get set, they are set for the life of the product so it was probably best to move on to shallow space MP shooter #434234245.

Such a bummer. I bought the game on launch but held off waiting for more patches and updates.

I'll get around to beating this eventually, but the meh reception really gives me no motivation to even install it again. Some day...

How did it do financially? I mean it's in the top 10 of game sale this year, it's not that bad right?

It's not just launch sales. They are also looking at the longevity of the title, the profitability of the multiplayer, community reaction for viability of dlc, and the return on investment. EA funded Mass Effect Andromeda a *lot*. The game need to sell more and be better received.

If a game drops in price as fast as Andromeda did then you know it's done badly regardless of the initial sales. EA make decisions on money, not what people complaining on forums say.

Having finished Andromeda, I would like to say that the game has some interesting ideas in terms of its story/settings/themes, and kinda disappointed that they wouldn't be able to explore those further.

Kinda like Ryder too, especially the female.

Ah well....

It's incredible to me that this went from being one of the biggest new IP from the last generation to a complete failure, things sure change fast.

For what I can see it's mostly because it was handed off to a new department whom had too bigger scope on what they wanted to do but failed half way and had to patch up the rest, it was poor planning from the start. They also dropped the ball big time when it came to the rpg side of things and talking to people and the animations.

It's a real shame and I wanted the game to be the next mass effect (1) for me, I was so hyped.

How disappointing. This whole situation with Andromeda is sad. My favorite franchise of last generation down the toilet.

Everyone has either left or is probably now moved onto Anthem.

No point wasting resources on a shit game. They got their money

apparently they didn't

I'm sad we're not seeing a resolution patch for Xbox One X, I actually really enjoyed Andromeda and would love to continue on all the side missions on One X in upgraded graphics.

I know someone who has connections to the studio, and apparently story DLC was never planned in the first place.

Massively SP focused game series that most fans give zero fucks about tacked on MP, treat it like MP is the only thing that can make money. EA logic. Bioware too apparently. Games as a service boys.

CDPR sits in the corner and laughs given the financial success of their TW3 SP DLC. Take pride and care in your work, do it well, and SP fans will flock in good numbers to get decent sized SP additional content. Who knew? Well, most of us. Corporations gonna corporation with chasing that loot/lock box and microtransactions MP cash.

'No one' will ever forgive you CDPR if you sell yourselves to EA. It doesn't matter what contracts you think you can sign, prepare to get infested from up top. Bioware are becoming a shell of what they used to be. It sometimes takes a while for the EA take outside shoot in head meme to come true, but, it tends to happen eventually. Mass Effect is now RIP.

The price dropped like a rock just a few months out; that's never a good sign. Even if it cracked the top 10 every now and again doesn't necessarily mean it met expectations. However much EA invested into Andromeda, they clearly didn't get back anywhere near as much as they'd like.

Not that I feel sorry for them. The game clearly needed at least another few months, but EA - being EA - decided to appease their investors instead, and it ended badly for virtually everyone. The internet mocked the terrible animations for months, the critics scored it significantly lower than any game from the ME trilogy, the studio who made it is getting "merged", and the series is going to be on ice for years while all we'll hear about from Bioware is Anthem, Anthem: The Shade Below, Anthem: House of Lupines, Anthem: The Seized King, Anthem: Ascent of Iron...

This is what I have heard as well.

I'm not sure single-player DLC has been profitable for many game companies in recent years, which is why you're seeing publishers trend toward standalone expansions like Uncharted Lost Legacy and Dishonored: Death of the Outsider.

And just like that we lose the only AAA Sci-fi RPG... The market is wide open and yet no one seems to dive into it, I am truly sick and tired of fantasy RPGs.

This is what gets me the most, the fact they're having to rely on Dragon Age as their premier IP besides whatever Anthem ends up becoming, shows just how hollowed out their talent pool is at Bioware. It's unfortunate that I have no other big name Sci-Fi RPG besides Cyperpunk to look forward to.
