Game of Thrones *NO BOOK DISCUSSION* |OT2| Season 7 - [Read the OP]

MMarston

Was getting caught part of your plan?
So how many times is Jon going to be staring off at certain death, only to be saved by a last minute miracle? It happened twice this episode.

What the fuck were the Chidren of the Forest on when they made the Night King?

It seems that the Children are much like normal children in that they just never ever considered long-term consequences.

And probably because they just found it totally awesome and decided to roll with it.

By the way, I can't believe I'm saying this for this show, but I am really, REALLY disliking all the fast-travelling these guys are doing.

Hmm, I see, expect when he told us this isn't the case anymore.
did you mean except, and not expect? because otherwise I don't know what you're trying to say here.

and I don't think Bran was prepared to say everything he felt to Meera when he said what he said since he's still just a kid. I don't put all stake into everything any character says.

And I don't understand why you have such a hard time coping with the fact that I have a different perspective than you do.

I don't know if there has ever been a time in this show's history where I actually enjoyed watching it. It's more of a morbid curiosity for me. For so long it was a depressing and loathsome comedy of errors where good people died because that's what was the most shocking, and now all of the sudden everyone is allowed to make the stupidest decisions possible with no real repercussions.

You miss the part this episode where the main villain of the series acquires a WMD?

Someone tell me again why Arya is picking a fight with her sister instead of killing Cersei.

I actually think Arya is going to kill and impersonate Littlefinger. She thinks Sansa is a POS, but can't trust LF. He gets the dagger.

Sansa is largely useless at this point.
Cersei too, but I'm waiting for Arya to give her the dagger...Right after Qyburn.

Aside from the stupid shit about Benjen (are you fucking kidding me, "there's no time"? Just get on the goddamn horse idiot), that was a great episode.

I think it was more "there's no time to explain that I'm a reanimated corpse and cannot pass the wall with you."

Man I hope this white walker problem is completely dealt with early and we get back into the politics between living, breathing human beings with actual emotions and character development.

I don't want a fucking LotR epic battle between humans and CG baddies nobody cares about to end the entire series.

Going to withhold some complaints until I see the next episode.
Something like Benjen appearing out of nowhere could be addressed, Bran may have sent him.

Well too bad, because that's where we're headed. They won't build up something from the very prologue of this show and not make this the climax.

So how many times is Jon going to be staring off at certain death, only to be saved by a last minute miracle? It happened twice this episode.

What the fuck were the Chidren of the Forest on when they made the Night King?

How to make the ultimate weapon:

•Brings the storm: check
•Can raise the dead: Check
•Can turn babies to White Walkers: Check
•Immune to fire: check
•Has the throwing arm of 100 Tom Bradys: Check
•No contingency plan to shut this shit down: Check

Desperate people do desperate things.

Did they really expect me to believe that a raven and Dany flew across the continent in less than a day?

Genuinely surprised Beric didn't die.

Arya and Sansa need to get their shit together, their drama is so dumb.

An undead dragon is pretty dope though, makes me excited to see the epic battles next season.

Benjen had no reason to die there. He easily could have gotten on the horse.

They show the Night King in human form back a season or two ago with the children of the forest, right? Or am I going crazy...

Regarding that Bran theory, i wouldnt post any gifs from reddit or random internet websites. the script for the final episode has been leaked and if this bran reveal turns out to be a real thing, i want people who posted that stupid gif and theory to get banned.

i had the goddamn 'Night King Kills Dragon' bit spoiled for me in a youtube comment on a battlefield 1 video. so it pretty much ruined the entire episode for me. i was watching there wondering how they will get danyrs half way across the world behind the wall and it was just as stupid as i thought.

the ravens flying 2000 miles to dragonstone didnt make much sense. gendry making it back to the wall in one night didnt make much sense. night king killing a moving target instead of a stationary dragon right in front of him didnt make any sense. jon running off to fight random walkers who clearly cant hurt a dragon made no sense. benjen saying we have no time and then waiting forever to kill white walkers made no sense. arya being dumb makes no sense. sansa not learning from her mistakes and sending brienne, her only bodyguard makes no sense.

i normally hate cinema sins and people who point plot holes in tv shows and movies but when a show makes so many dumb decisions just to get a cool dragon battle, it starts to feel cheap.

it would've made more sense for Jon to convince Dany to at least sail to Eastwatch and wait there in case anything went wrong. that would've fixed the time warp issue.

would've made more sense for jon to tell Dany to ATTACK the night king and destroy the threat forever. or go after him forcing her to send a dragon to rescue him and get him killed in the process. but no, you cant have jon be responsible when you are trying to create a forced romance. i just hate the fact that they had three dragons and they dont go after the night king. i mean he's right fucking there. i understand bolting after losing the first dragon but that should've been the plan as soon as she landed.

i really liked the scene when dany shows up. the music is incredible and i liked the poetic way its shot. much less violent and action gamey than the loot train sequence. the shot of her leaving with the dragons flying off the cliff while tyrion watches is gorgeous as well. the night king taking out the dragon despite being something that was spoiled for me was a spectacular scene. Emilia Clarke's performance was very understated and yet powerful. its the first time since Season 1 you see a truly hurt Dany and its good to see her act normal instead of pompous ALL THE TIME. i liked her scene with jon snow as well.

overall, lots to like but game of thrones has always gotten the big moments right. Ned's execution, the blackwater explosion, the red wedding, oberyon's death, tyrion's trial, hardhome, battle of bastards, the septor explosion and now this much anticipated white walker v dragon battle. i just hate how the writing has digressed now that they dont have even a manuscript to go off of. its just another tv show now. nothing like breaking bad and mad men which had some of their best episodes in the split final season.

all im asking for is that they put a little thought into building a story around these setpieces.

If there's something I learned from reading all your reactions while the episode was "live" is that, if you're all worried about spoilers, you should really think twice before following this thread while watching the goddamn episode. It's so obvious the HBO GO people were ahead of the live tv watchers by at least a couple of minutes at best and by 10 minutes at worst.

Restrain yourself from posting during the episode and just enjoy the show lest you risk getting spoiled big time.

When I watch this show I don't dare look anywhere but my tv. I don't get how some of you can post regularly as you all watch it live, let alone tweet full on memes before the episode is over.

I'll say it again: don't like spoilers? HBO Go ruined live posting. Don't do it until you're done.

I generally don't care about the whole ship thing, but I have so much inner turmoil towards Dany and Jon. The chemistry there is actually pretty solid, but dude she's your aunt.

Also wondering how Cersei gonna fuck them over like the treacherous hag she his. Kinda wishing Jamie kills her next episode no matter how unrealistic that is.

Dany is Jon's aunt, what? Is this a book thing, or am I forgetting something from a past season? I thought Jon's mother was a prostitute.

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to whatever trap Cersei has planned. Tyrion's flaw in predicting Cersei is what Olenna Tyrell said, that she didn't have the imagination to predict Cersei's cruelty.

The first scene of both the books and show have the White Walkers. Can't imagine them not being in the final mix.

Sounds like you don't put any stake into what characters say, actually.

I either believe the thing Bran has no said multiple times, and has been shown to us by his whole change in demeanor that has shocked Meera and Sansa alike, or your interpretation that the show hasn't actually portrayed at all.

Also, this is a forum, you discuss things. That's what I'm doing.

"playing" dumb? unpossible
Have y'all never seen people try to deflect when they are told that they have a crush on someone that they actually do? You guys seem so fixated on the "he's too small for me" line, and trying to figure out what it means lol. It's simple than height or age or anything like that.

Look at the face Tyrion makes while she names her list of heroes, and then look at the face she gives when Tyrion tells her Jon like her. She's throwing out the first excuse that pops into her mind to deflect from her own feelings for Jon. Her reaction when Jon stated that he would lead the raid party says it all.

Bran is not the Night King. A few seasons ago they showed how he got created by the Children of the Forest. The 3ER kept the Night King in check and now Bran has to do the deed. Remember when Bran was getting stormed by wights after getting marked, uncle benjen saved him because the 3ER told him to rescue Bran. Bran probably used the same powers to save Jon Snow

Man I'll be hugely disappointed then. It's like hey let's make the signature strength about this story be the intriguing politics and great layered characters, but at the end let's toss all that aside and just go with fantasy tropes tropes tropes.

I think this episode was where the show jumped the shark. I'm fine with an undead dragon, hell I was expecting it but they way time and travel works is rushed and awful. Not to mention all the fake almost dying, it's shit dying.

The beginning fan service was the best part.

I never got this complaint. I don't give a shit about travel times, just get on with the story.

I feel like all the hard work the show put into building Arya and Sansa's characters is just being thrown in the garbage. They used to be my favorites now they're both just annoying and stupid.
This. Almost ruined the fucking episode for me. After all these seasons they get played like fucking fiddles? I mean come on. It can't be this easy.

Undead dragon is immune to fire and dragon glass so 1 of two things will happen:

1. This episode heavily pushed that whatever wights are under control of X white walker are destroyed when X white walker is killed. So now, the Night King needs to die for the undead dragon to fall. In this scenario, Jon and his friends die accomplishing their mission.

2. Bran can warg unintelligent creatures. Dragons aren't applicable because they're intelligent. When they're dead they're no longer intelligent so therefore undead dragon is vulnerable to Bran. This scenario probably has Daenerys dead as the main drama while Bran saves the day.

Benjen saving Jon can be explained away because he communicates with the 3ER.

So that's fine, as you can imagine Bran is controlling the scenario.

Where exactly is this info from that he communicates with the 3ER?

The first time Benjin showed up since the first season was after the 3ER died...did he say something like that? I don't remember.

Would be cool if that was the case and it was Bran helping out.

Prepare to be disappointed then, ever since Hardhome they are setting up NK as the final/main threat.

I never said he was, what I posted was evidence contrary to it. Why are you quoting me? lol

Exactly. Martin uses what his audience wants against them. This entire season has been fanservice. That's not what made me a fan.

Absolutely. I said it last week (or the one prior) but previosu seasons killed characters off no questions asked if they did something as stupid as the beyond the wall expendables did. this season everyone gets bailed out of nowhere with really jarring reality breaking plot armor. Again if youre enjoying it enjoy it but the spectacle to me isn't worth these writing issues.

I'd say it jumped the shark with that first dragon encounter two episodes back but most people were just ahppy enough to see dragons fuck shit it up that most gave it a pass. This episode doubled down on a lot of those issues. Apparenlty if you dive into water in this you get a get out of jail free card

He had talked with the previous Three Eyed Raven but it sorta sounded like he was at his tree and not that he could communicate with him without being there in person. So I don't think Bran was able to speak to him.

Sounds like you don't put any stake into what characters say, actually.
Well, these characters do often make mistakes and get themselves killed. Even the most intelligent ones.
I either believe the thing Bran has no said multiple times, and has been shown to us by his whole change in demeanor that has shocked Meera and Sansa alike, or your interpretation that the show hasn't actually portrayed at all.
First of all, he hasn't said "I'm not Bran" multiple times, he only said it one time. And second of all, I have explained to you 3 times already how I've interpreted his arc to have been him putting for an effort to improve his behavior with his family over the course of time. If you don't share that perspective that's fine, but you don't need to have a condescending attitude just coz you don't agree.

Also, this is a forum, you discuss things. That's what I'm doing.
all you're doing here is having a "i'm right, you're wrong so deal with it" discussion with me. and that's not a discussion. you're not interested in hearing what i have to say and respecting it, only saying your perspective is the only one to go by

Blame GRRM and D&D for that. Specifically GRRM since he could have finished WoW and the creative folks of the show wouldn't be in this position to try and do this since they aren't GRRM so they aren't gonna try. Sparknoting the ending does suck but I'm not complaining with what we're getting.

I think you and others need to pay attention to more detail. In every episode in the past, it kinda foreshadows whats to come. Benjen rescuing Bran was because of the old 3ER telling him to come to there aid. He explains how he survived and came to Brans aid.

You're missing something that has been shoved down our throats time and time again since last season.

There is a greater purpose, there is a reason we were brought back, why we were brought here etc etc.

At this point I think they want us to assume it's divine intervention.

So why did Arya hand over the dagger to Sansa? Just to increase tension in that scene?
And the whole time and travel thing in the episode was a fucking joke. Everything happens so conveniently for Jon. They should have showed it better rather than going a typical brainless summer popcorn flick way.
Anyways I am still enjoying the show, just that quality of storytelling has taken a nosedive for the worst.
