Horizon Zero Dawn patch 1.32 adds easier difficulty level: "Story" difficulty

I wonder how they make the human encounters any easier.

Do they run at you in single file to give you health potions?

Looks like I am buying this game now. I stayed away from it after hearing about the difficulty. I just don't have the time to play long difficult games anymore.

I played this on hard mode and it was never really overwhelming, I can't imagine how derpy easy mode must be, let alone Story mode. Do all enemies die in one hit and are you invincible?

My biggest gripes with HZD as it pertained to the story was enormous amounts of pop-in and bad lip syncing.

I love the idea of a "Story" difficulty setting. I think it's exactly what a lot of people want, and it makes clear exactly what it's about. Catherine's description for Easy spelled itself out the same way.

Nice! GG have done fantastic work with post launch support.

This story mode difficulty is smart with upcoming holidays where younger/less skilled players can just pick up, play and have fun.

Soulsborne games should have a 'story' difficulty..

Yup.
I'd probably finish BB if it had something of the sort.

Great game that I'll unfortunately never fully experience.

Great to hear that they are adding more options. I play most games on normal because ain't nobody have time for that when it comes to ultra difficulty plus i'm not super skilled when it comes to combat.

I think I can finally convince my mom to try this out now that there is an easier story mode because she has been watching me play and absolutely loves the world and story.

I also love how GG has practically made it their mission to rid the world of even the most uncommon and rare bugs. Incredible post game support. I'm not even finished Horizon and I am still incredibly excited for their next installment in this world building on all the amazing work they have already done

Wha...The story is one of the best things about it.

the game is not that bad.

there are already ways to help you get through the tough parts and it's not even that hard in the first place.

Can you switch to this difficulty in an existing game?

I finished it but seems like a great way to clean up collectibles and stuff for the platinum

I'm always saying the same thing. :) I love how the world looks in Bloodborne, but I don't have the nerves for the gameplay it offers. I'd definitely play it in story/explorer mode even with all trophies locked.

This is probably a good option. The game is pretty difficult and long, which is great for us, but I can see it being frustrating for a more casual audience. Although the completion rate is at 33% which is actually pretty good for a game like this, I think.

Just summon someone into your game to do it for you if you refuse to level up or learn mechanics.

Might as well read an YA novel if you just want the story.

Why would I need to do that when the game's story does it so well? The combination of visuals, music, voice acting and cutscenes are so well done. YA novels doesn't do any of that.

Did you actually beat it?

the game is not that bad.

Maybe read my comment again? I said it was one of the best things about it. I Platinumed it because I enjoyed it so much.

No even joking... I hacked my copy of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls to be pretty much "invincible" so I could just enjoy tracking down all the story bits and explore freely.

And I LOVED it. Didn't "dilute" the experience for me at all. I'd already beaten them legit once before, but I've replayed those games multiple times since with the health boost and it's only made me love the artistry and work put into the series even more. Everyone harps on the challenge of the game, but it's so amazing in OTHER areas too.

I beat the game. I really don't agree with any of that.

To each is own I guess.

Yep, fantastic addition and I hope that eventually all story-driven games include this option
hopefully now I can finally get the wife into this potential GOTY

Haha well, it's pretty hard for me!
Dunno how else to put it :p

I should try doing that.
Been meaning to give the game another run later this year if I've got the stomach for it.

Awesome news. An easier difficulty level is never a bad thing, and as someone who really struggles with aiming with a controller (especially when there's a lot going on, like being surrounded), any extra assistance is helpful. It really feels like they're putting in a lot of love into the game and trying to make it as great as it can be. I'd definitely buy something by Guerrilla next time around.

This was definitely a godsend. That games puzzles.... *shudders*.

Well, 9 year old children are not really supposed to play this game in the first place.

If he were playing though the story I agree, but I'm just plopping him in areas where there's a lot of robots and letting him fight for a while. That seems perfectly appropriate for him.

Such a good game and they just keep making it better. Horizon is probably my favorite game of the generation. The combat was fun and the story was one of the best I've played through in a long time.

Guerrilla Games before release confirmed they streamlined and made the RPG systems much more easier basic etc for more 'accessibility' now also doing this? At least it's optional

I'm a pretty experienced gamer and I gotta be honest, this game kicked my ass for some reason. Even with good equipment I died A LOT more than I'd like to admit. I would have loved this option but I ended up just grinding exp like mad and muscled through it. Helped to get the Shadow Caster bow or whatever it was called.

Nice. Need to get back to this. Enjoy the visuals and story but something about the combat just irritates me. The bow feels off. Melee is awful and I keep getting stuck on geometry when rolling around.

What story?

I'm sorry, still salty after selling Horizon: ZD, was spending too much time with it with little gain.

Sure, the graphics were jaw dropping, but gimme Senua's character depth over Aloy, gimme Phantom Pain's impeccable gameplay over staleness and repetition.

I commend them for being bold enough to at least try and do something different, but they were never on par with the greatest and it shows.

Horizon has put GG in a tier of developers like CD Projekt, Naughty Dog, and Nintendo.
I can't wait to see what they put out next.

If you didn't finish it, are you really in a position to comment on the story? There is plenty of it and it's an excellent sci-fi tale with deep lore. Especially for an open world game.

Can you switch difficulty on the fly like in Skyrim? This might come in handy for the more frustrating sections. Particularly the human enemies with their bullshit arrows.

One of the YT comments said they should do it as an April Fools joke, and it actually makes the game twice as hard.

As for HZD, I'll probably switch to this new mode. I've got a long way to go, and for me it's all about the world and the story, and I've got other shit to play coming up, it'll be nice to knock this out before those games hit.

I've got other games I can play for a challenge and yeah, that includes Dark Souls.

Although I was playing on normal, I got frustrated with the game and didn't go back go it. I would imagine newbies feel the same way about the easy mode. Easier mode is a good thing.

I'm not usually one to play on the harder difficulties in most games, but honestly Horizon was still easy even on the highest difficulty (pre NG+ patch, that is). Story mode would be really boring IMO. Still, more options is always a good thing.
