Rise of the Tomb Raider Xbox One X Enhancements trailer

I don't understand why they did not show this trailer yesterday in their stream instead of some old trailers we already saw at E3.

I really have to ask what they thought when planning the show ...

It would have still been an "old game" we "saw before" that "struggles with framerate"

So this will work with my Xbox One copy of the game wont it?

I just stick the disc on the XBX and presto it downloads all this 4K goodness and boom, it looks amazing?

And then on top of that I'll get a sweet downsampled image to my 1080p set?

So it's basically the PS4 Pro version with the same settings.

Also the High Framerate mode? This means they are not able to lock it at 60 on X1X also. That's surprising.

i turned on the high frame rate mode on the pro and never looked back. shit is so noticeably smoother.

I did the same, but I went 4K. The visuals are so much better on that mode. High FPS mode showed a lot of texture shimmering and rough textures. The FPS is pretty stable and I got used to it within 5 minutes.

Yes. I believe you will also be able to pre-download the 4k updates so that you can just stick the game on an external and connect it to the X1X and begin playing immediately.

thats a lot of assumptions...

It is at least better to show something new with how existing games get that Xbox One X treatment and what owners of the console and the game can expect from a patch. I don't care if there were dips as the trailer says alpha footage right at the beginning. We are also talking about a stream where dips can happen just because the stream.

What on earth has Jaguar got to do with a non-CPU bottlenecked game?
Who says it isn't? If the Pro can't keep 60 on 1080p while it can keep 30 on 4k CB(this would be 1920x2160 ultimately twice the amount of pixels to 1920x1080) where do you think the culprit lies?

That comment was about the video not holding 30fps, which definitely isn't a CPU problem. In the 60fps mode though yes I apologise I should have been more clear. Though looking at the performance with the Pro's CPU, a near locked 60 should be possible with the bump in clock speed.

I wonder what settings they'll be targeting with 60fps...the pro didn't target the highest settings using it's 60fps mode (remember, there was an enhanced graphics setting that was 1080p30fps with high end effects turned on).

If my 3GB 1060 in my laptop can do 1080 with most of the settings turned up, I was hoping the new Xbox could do similar or better, despite the CPU (because the GPU is stronger than a even a 6GB 1060, right?)

Cant speak for consoles, but on PC, the game is heavily CPU bottlenecked. I was getting poor frames on max settings with my 1080Ti before I overclocked my CPU
It definitely is bottlenecked when you go above 30 on consoles, was talking about the sub-30 fps in the trailer.

Ah just misunderstanding from my part

I really should have been more specific. Hopefully the One X CPU has just enough of a clock increase to get to that 60FPS the Pro was short of. Hope there's a resolution, texture and AF increase in high framerate mode and it's not just base Xbox One settings including 1080p.

Looking at how the game performs on the PS4 Pro I think it would be unlikely for it to be a near locked 60 fps, at-least throughout the whole game especially since the Xbox One X's CPU is only around 10% faster.
Maybe the additional memory bandwidth can help improve CPU's performance a bit?

This is a notably CPU intensive spot in the game:

Providing the performance shown in Digital Foundry's testing of the "Unlocked FPS" mode is a showcase of being CPU bound, then the 10% faster CPU probably isn't going to help much as the performance holds around the 40 fps mark in more CPU intensive scenes like this. I do wonder if the higher memory bandwidth can be beneficial though.

However there are smaller/less intensive areas where the PS4 Pro can come closer to delivering 60 fps, I can see the Xbox One X improving on this.

Ah this is slightly disappointing, will be interesting at least to see how close it gets. It definitely looks like it won't be locked however.

These sound almost the same as Pro version no? Plus HDR and Atmosphere sounds like the two actual new things

This is one of the few games I own on both PS4 and XB1, and haven't finished either. Guess this'll give me a reason to get to it this year.

Atmos for home theater I assume? Because it's broken as hell for headphones.

Yep, Atmos for Headphones for Windows 10 and Xbox totally screws up the front speakers, making them into simple stereo. I'd be pissed off if I had paid for it.

Windows Sonic for headphones is free and does a much better job, but can't do the overhead speakers like Atmos can, of course.
