Game of Thrones *NO BOOK DISCUSSION* |OT2| Season 7 - [Read the OP]

Crossing Eden

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
what would be cersei reaction to the news that dany lost a dragon? maybe she will realize there is something bigger coming for all people on westeros?
Probably something akin to
"oh wow that's a shame."

They were waiting for the ice to refreeze so they could cross the lake to kill them.

There's no indication that they brought the chains with them, but rather that time passed and they went to get the chains at another location.

The chain thing was completely stupid. NK should of raised the dragon like he did in front of Jon. That would of had much more impact.

And really, they could of handled the dragon scene a million times better. They could of been all escaping and the NK chucks his spear, only to have one of the dragons sacrifice itself to save the the day.

It's shit like this I just cannot take seriously

She's been phenomenal this season. Probably the best character

The character and the performance aren't the same thing. It's like she has one level and sticks to it no matter what the hell is happening at any given time.

I think Dany is more likely to die than Jon, I'll say that, but I don't think Cersei or Dany die this season. I think the Lannister plot line drags out into next season.

there is a reason why movies like civil war and rogue one have huge "THIS COUNTRY" "THIS PLANET" when the story moves to other places

we need a big sign that says 36 HOURS LATER or what?
I don't think we need any indicator since majority of the time I can attribute it to, "time has gone by." if something seems to have happened way too fast. But just look at this thread and you can see people think this shit is happening second by second.

Grizzlyjin

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
And to continue the Lost analogy, no matter how convenient the writing becomes for Game of Thrones, I doubt it would ever sink to the the lowest of lows of Lost season 6, the terribly produced exposition dump "Across the Sea" so I'll probably have a more enjoyable time watching season 7 of Game of Thrones than I had watching season 6 of Lost.

Never say never. They're running out of time!

I'm finding there's a lot of scenes they could have handled better this season.

Well, to each their own

The character and the performance aren't the same thing. It's like she has one level and sticks to it no matter what the hell is happening at any given time.

But that's the opposite of how I've felt about her performance. The writing has been better, and her acting has been better because of it. Which means she's got talent.

So the NK is able to revive everything that is dead and is the only one who sees or realizes Bran's presence whenever he tries to get close to him personally or by ravens. He interrupted his visions twice now.

So is he basically not able to do the same thing? Besides reviving animals and humans, shouldn't he also be able to download everything that is happening? NK and WW weren't surprised the slightest to see the three dragons. Maybe it was the whole plan to get a dragon and breach the wall?

Yes exactly those 3 episodes.

1, 2, and the first 20 minutes or so of episode 3 in the very first season.

If the passage of time and how it's portrayed is now ruining the show for you, I don't see how you can equally consider the first season to be one of your favorite seasons of any show ever.

My complaint isn't literally that I don't want time skips. That's fine and I know the first season has them. The time skips, though, must make sense within the narrative and compared to other plot lines. The directors and writers also need to show the effects of these time skips and let the watcher in on the context. Season 1-3 did this pretty well. This season has skipped it almost entirely. There's just no comparison at all. There's nothing as crazy as Gendry running for hours to get to Eastwatch, sending a raven to dragon stone, Dany getting that raven and bundling up to leave, then traveling thousands of miles to rescue the heroes in the literal nick of time all in the same episode. And all that happens while the viewer has almost no real clues as to what the protagonists are going through during this time or how much time has passed on that island.

Like, even if I were to hand wave all the weirdness of that plan and how it worked there's a fundamental failing of the director and the writers to show the absolute tension of sitting with the Night King staring at them for what might be three or four fucking days. How do they not show that? We got none of that tension.

Oh yeah, I'm sure they'll do an exposition dump, but they'll produce the hell out of it to make it watchable. For all their faults, I don't think they'll pull off an Allison Janney struggling to speak Latin moment. And I really don't want to be proven wrong, so crossing my fingers that they don't outdo Lost.

Just one of them saying "we've been here for days!" would've been enough. But then it'd raise the question of what they are eating during that time.

Of all the dumb shit this episode I've seen very little mention of The Hound acting like an 8 year old with the throwing of rocks at the zombies and then missing, which leads to them realising the ice has re-frozen. So bad.

Wasn't so bad. It wasn't great but I had no problem with it.
Proper irresponsible though.

She's definitely better this season. It's kinda funny how the plot-line for two most complained about actors finally converged, and it turned out that they have a pretty good chemistry between them.

I never expected it honestly. And their relationship feels like a natural evolution

That episode was rather meh

Poor writing, particularly the whole Winterfell soap opera garbage

I feel like the whole stupid as fuck "let's march into the abyss to catch a walking dead as proof so Cersei will totally join us and not be her usual backstabbing piece of shit like always" was purely designed so that the Night King would get a hold of an undead dragon to create some excitement for the grand final battle to come.

And tbf, one of the major plot hole for a good while has been "why is not the person with three motherfucking nearly invincible dragons not dominating everyone and everywhere already".

It would literally be that, staring at each other. How would that create any source of tension? It would be boring to watch as it would be boring to sit through for the characters POV.

It shows them waiting in the day, It shows them waiting in the night, it shows Thoros dying, them waiting in the day some more, it shows them waiting some more and The Hound getting antsy and throwing stones like a dumb cunt.

What would create more tension for you in this situation? I'd like to know, because all the scenarios I think of in my head are pretty stupid. The real complaint should be how they managed to brave the cold for a few days, especially those who aren't northerners.

And trust me, the passage of time in the first few episodes is equally as stupid.

She doesn't want to burn everything down and become the "queen of ashes"

Tyrion gave her pretty good advice.

This season has been un-fucking-believable. This episode was some of the most tense shit I've ever witnessed on screen. I would have gladly watched several seasons worth of that beyond-the-wall group just going on adventures together. So many awesome characters, and their chemistry together is just as good as I could have hoped for. Sad to see Thoros go, but he was the most "expendable" of that group so it could have been worse.

Can't believe there's just one episode left of the season.. the wait for S8 will be so long.. so very, very long.

Well in regard to your last point, Jon touched on this and I thought made a good point. Burning everything and leaving a trail of destruction in your wake is what kings/queens have done forever. If she wants to be better, she's got to find a better way than allowing innocents to suffer and by the thousands by straight up attacking king's landing.

They have the Night King literally staring them down for four days and there's no conversation at all about that amongst them? Are they staying awake all night? Are they sleeping in shifts? How are they surviving? How is their mental state? The show went the laziest way of portraying this. They also ruined a lot of that tension though by telegraphing that Dany was coming. They really shouldn't have done Gendry running to east watch and the raven at all. Figure out a different way to have her save the day and make it so we know she might, but don't know she will. Show the group of people desperately wondering if they're going to just die on that island there or if they have hope of Dany coming.

Creating tension through visuals and conversation in that moment could have made the most memorable and in my opinion the least boring part of this entire season. It could have. All the pieces were there. They just didn't use them.

And trust me, the passage of time in the first few episodes is equally as stupid.

I'm not going to trust you on this because I have eyes, ears, and a brain that has witnessed Season 1 many times. There's no comparison to the passage of time in Season 1 and the garbage in last episode. Not even close and I can't see how you can say this with a straight face.

Maybe the NK pulled a smoke monster/ John Locke and has been warged into bran this whole season.

Think about it

Last season he gave bran a mark in a green seer vision.

Bran has been acting weird since he got home, disconnected from everything and everyone.

Didn't want the dagger becuase they are allergic to valyrian Steele.

He wants to see john, not to tell him about his parents but to kill him.

And I'm sure I can find some other things for my crappy theory. But theories are fun. No matter how bad. Lol

That's fair, but for a lot of these characters this is the first time they've seen the NK. They did a shit job at creating any sort of dread.

I mean these are literally some of the most hardened dudes on the show. They certainly felt dread watching a dragon of all things die.
