Shenmue III – The 1st Teaser | PS4

Everyone will make fun of the stiff faces and animation, but LMAO at that title wipe at the start, this is so low effort it hurts muh soul.

Hot.

At the risk of getting into trouble, its worth it to see some of the shocking reactions ive read over the last 6 pages.

In the name of transparency, I can say that 90% of what was in that trailer we were shown a year ago at the Kickstarter dinner. There is a strategy to what's being shown. If you think this was put together last week that's your business, I am just telling you that the majority of that footage is at least a year old, some even 18 months old now.

Take from it what you will. Also, for those looking for Yakuza level character detail, maybe throw a few extra bucks onto the ongoing PayPal for the game, since this is a low funded title without a multi million dollar development studio behind it.
People should probably read this.

i know people won't read this

There's stylized, and then there's shitty.

The original models still look pretty great besides from some robotic animation and some older modeling techniques.

In the Shenmue III trailer, they almost look right... but at the same time there is something slightly off9putting about them, and I can;t put my finger on what it is exactly. Are the eyes too big, or is it their emotionless facial expressions? I dunno. They do look higher polygon and more detailed. But they also look like they are rigged to be animated in the same way that the 2001 models were.

Otherwise, the game environments look pretty nice, and they do remind me of the original two games, but it is much higher polygon here. The texture work looks oddly like the original two games but bumped up to much higher resolution with the UE4 material shaders in place.

Honestly, the game doesn't look bad for a Kickstarter with a 6+ million dollar budget and built on UE4. It does look like the developers are still learning UE4 though.

Looks amazing.

Yes the faces are lifeless, but I'm assuming the animation rigging for that isn't in yet.

But the environments... holy shit!

The font has to go, they literally unveiled a perfect one weeks ago.

They still have loads of time to polish this game.

I believe.

I don't have the nostalgia for this series that I know some of you do as the Dreamcast was that lost year of gaming for me due to it being freshman year of college.

But taken at face value...this looks awful

It looks like Ryo is fighting that muscly man in at the center of the bridge, inside the walled section.

In addition to the walls, the door ways have the same arches, and the cobblestone floor is the same

This honestly makes releasing the trailer now even more baffling.

That musclebound guy whose face looks like a drag queen that's had too much plastic surgery is killing me. I think this game will definitely be fun for the people who enjoyed Shenmue because it was kinda trash. Having these production values along with really wooden voice acting is going to be a hoot.

Good. This is kinda funky but I can understand if they are holding back for now.

I'm sure the faces will be fixed, that's not my worry.

My worry is that we're in the second half of 2017 and we still don't have a god damn Shenmue 1 and 2 HD/Remaster announced.

The beautiful backgrounds are completely destroyed by the terrible faces

Still day 1, that village looks like a blast to travel

My god their eyes look creepy. haha just dead soulless husks. But this game sadly looks like it's budgets showing.

Would have loved to have had some actual exploration gameplay. The fighting in Shenmue was never what made the game for me and was at best janky.

They should have just made this with Dreamcast level graphics uprezzed.

Otherwise you end up with the current situation where people somehow expect AAA production values at a tiny fraction of the cost of making the average modern AAA game.

I don't expect AAA at all, but the faces look like shit.

O nice, thanks for sharing.

Trailer def wasn't ready for prime time or for non-fans, not sure why they released it. As a fan I'm not discouraged but I'd be playing the game no matter what it looks like.

I don't understand how the faces can look so much worse than on Dreamcast. The animations too. At least the environments look good.

Faces are bad because they have the dead fish stare.

That and the stiff animations are a deadly combo for the presentation.

Environments are cool and on par with what I expected.

The logo did change again and it's awful again.

They're still not showing ANY gameplay and that's concerning.

The trailer's composition was amateur-hour, just like the previously released "cover".

As a huge, I mean, HUGE former Dreamcast fan, theres a secret I need to say: This game... was always bad.
The real stars on the system were PSO and JSR.

Definitely WIP. I think some people would be frightened (or have a good laugh) at seeing some of their favorite games pre-release.

There's a lot of debbie downers in this thread, which is unfortunate, if not understandable. The characters do lack any facial animations whatsoever with the exception of lips moving every now and then. But I expect that's because they're waiting until doing voice recording to mo-cab actors faces, which they obviously have not done yet.

Gaf is brutal.

Anyway. This game looks better than most Star Ocean games and those are AAA.
