Destiny on PC is a game changer

It felt kind of strange playing at a high framerate, resolution and FOV but for me it kind of faded away after the first mission and felt like Destiny again. So glad it has made it to PC with it being my main platform plus their port has pretty good 21:9 support (few bits of jank here and there), decent performance and other PC features.

The default controls feel a bit awkward for me considering how much abilities and melee tend to be used. I'm going to remap them to my mouse or switch out other keys. Stuff like the hold "o" for orbit is kinda strange.

I changed the keybinding after a pair of crucible rounds, as I noticed I was losing some fights because I was failing to use melee

q = special
e = class ability
f = melee
g = grenade
c / MMB = use button

I'm in the same boat as many others. Friends on PS4 (pro) and don't have a PC. I would really like to switch to PC but can't convince the others. But i'll probably going to double dip then and need some new friends on PC

But my impressions on this beta is that it's so much better on PC. I've got a i5 6600K with 1080Ti and it's so stunning. it almost looks like a different game on 4K and highest settings with more than 60FPS and a larger fov.

If you mean running through the mission, there is no checkpoints in missions if you get exited out of the game.

That makes sense, I guess I'll hold off on continuing until the game is out then, don't feel like playing wrong that section again right now.

cross save would be nice but it's Bungie's loss I guess. would've happily double dipped but it's OK i'll just wait patiently until October and buy the PC version on it's own.

My (somewhat first world) dilemma is the question whether I should play it in 4K HDR on my samsung 9 series TV (great IQ) at 60 fps with controller or on my 144 hz gsync monitor in 1440p with mouse and keyboard.

(GTX 1080TI and i7 7700 k. )

Hmm. Maybe I'll run through stuff the first time on the TV for the spectacle, and play more serious PVE/PVP on my monitor.

EDIT: I'm used to shooters on console with controller, even if I prefer mouse and keyboard, and played a decent amount of Destiny 1. So controller isn't a deal breaker like it is for many people.

Yeah I got also accustomed to controllers for FPS games on console with Destiny 1.
For PvP I think you need KB&M unless unless you just wan't to chill... But also get wrecked.

this game is not a single player, and the most important is the community, i give it a month or so until is full of russians hackers, mods,glitches or whatever... that will ruin the online experience.

look at the division.

I mean, most if not all games on PC have these.

yes, you're right. the point is that Destiny 1 didn't have a PC version so we had to buy it on console if we wanted to play it. now we do have it on PC there is no need to play on console with 30fps, low fov, and a controller. The PC is by far the best version of the game.

also this is not just a quick and dirty port. the game has actually been built for PC. i was worried it would suck and need to get it on PS4 but that's not the case.

it can be if you want it to be. yes a lot of is multiplayer and you can't play offline but you can definitely play it on your own. well, you will miss out on some content.

I think you should compare it to other Blizzard games, WoW, Diablo or Overwatch.

in destiny even when you play the campaign you find other players around the planet, and you can participate in public events, etc...

destiny doesn't belong to blizzard, they are only using the battle.net app, it will be like a call of duty but on battle.net

I think they dont release the game on steam because you can refund it within 3h or so.

Mine was more in line with CoD

Grenade went to mouse click

But yes we had roughly the same idea

Q = ultimate
V = class ability
F = Melee
Scroll wheel click = grenade
E = action

I think I might bind something to the equal sign or something and then put it on my mouse 3 since I use mouse 4 for PTT in discord

Very easy to get a setup you like though

I'll probably change crouch to C because I'm so used to smacking that button to crouch

Middle mouse button = grenade
Q = class ability
F = melee
V = super
Side mouse button 1 (mouse 4) = hold crouch

Why? Blizzard aren't gonna be running the servers for the game.

But Blizzard is in charge of the account system on PC, so any anti-cheat bans will be through Blizzard working with Bungie, and they generally have a good track record at shutting down cheaters.

Hopefully they are better than Massive and check fire rate serverside and such. And better than Gearbox and check loot serverside.

They're not releasing it on steam because no way in heck is Activision giving steam 30% of every dollar made when they already own their own super popular pc client.

nah.. it doesn't make sense, if that is the case they will release every single call of duty on battle.net, they are afraid of refunds and bad reviews.

Call of duty on PC won't even sell 10% of what destiny 2 does. CoD on PC has been dead for years. They can take a 30% hit off a port that will literally sell less than 300k copies

I'm actually amazed infinite warfare even sold near 500k

Why would they more afraid of those things with Destiny than any other game?

I think it's for several reasons. Firstly, because battle.net gives the game better visibility, all the people who log on to Wow, Hearthstone and Overwatch everyday are constanly seeing the Destiny 2 icon and can easily buy it. Secondly, they can put this game there, because unlike Call of Duty and the like this is a game that will probably have a long life. Destiny is also a game that is very well suited to the battle.net library, being an MMO that people will return to much longer than Call of Duty and the like.

No refunds and bad reviews might be a small factor as well.

I should try this out with a gamepad...I played a LOT of destiny on PS4 after all. I wonder if I'm actually better with one. Seems unthinkable.

A surprising number of my gaming friends are blizzard-only folks - a byproduct of having a longtime group of folks I stuck with for WC3/diablo 2/WoW. From my perspective it's a very smart decision, some of them don't even look at steam because they have to get their dailies done in WoW, hearthstone, etc. CoD would indeed be ignored but a game like Destiny would catch their eye, many of them entered Blizzard's whole ecosystem because of Diablo or WoW.

There's been an interesting development on that front. The TL;DR version:

- Destiny items were attached to the app earlier in the year but weren't uncovered until recently as SteamDB previously wasn't polling the Steam Inventory Service for item data
- Deej inadvertently confirmed the app is indeed Bungie's when he said the items being purchasable was a mistake
- The app has been updated by Bungie more than a dozen times since the Battle.net announcement, most recently a couple of weeks ago (or three-and-a-half weeks ago if we just assume that was Bungie making the items unpurchasable)
- A port of Destiny this late makes little to no sense, which suggests it's Destiny 2

Throw all that together and you have the possibility that Acti will release the game on Steam, presumably with Uplayesque Battle.net client integration.

is the open beta up yet?

Everything feels so smooth... the pc version is actually well built and has every option you can think of. Played like 8 matches of PVP and wow this is what i've been waiting for since destiny 1 got announced

I CANNOT wait until the 24th of october.

Uncapped framerates
FOV slider
4k Support
M/KB support

Just feels like a whole new game compared to the PS4 Beta.
That's all it takes to be a game-changer?

I thought this was genuinely about changing the design of FPSs or something. Not just having good technical options for console ports.

High framerate and low input delay directly affects the game is actually played. If changing the way a game plays isn't game-changing...

The effect is especially pronounced in fast action games. Try playing Super Mario Bros. at 30FPS and tell me it's the same game.

Shame on me if you fool me twice, and shame on all the defenders pretending the first game was competent.

It doesn't matter how smooth Bungie polished their turd.

Couldn't agree more, after many many hours in Destiny 1 on PS4, playing on PC is a dream come true.
