Pete Hines says denying existance of unnanounced Bethesda game "was a joke"

Aostia

El Capitan Todd
Some online retailer posted fallout 4 goty for Switch and we got a user/insider saying that a Western third party game is going to be announced for Switch very soon

We will see next week I guess

Also, now that I think of it, maybe they will try for Prey or Doom, with the angle that either is like Metroid...would be an interesting development. I could see them trying to get more outta Prey, by releasing it on Switch. Would actually probably be a smart move, too.

After Fallout 4 and the paid mods bullshit, TES 6 has to be pretty god damn impressive to get me back on board for another Bethesda rpg.

DOOM reminded me so much of the original Metroid Prime that I could see it doing quite well on a Nintendo platform.

Add to that it runs better on Vulkan which the Switch supports, and it would be one of the only (if not the only) FPS on the platform when it launches.

The question marks would be storage space, since it's a pretty massive file on PC, and what graphical features would need to be downgraded. The Vulkan compliance would probably help with the latter but the former is becoming a big problem for Switch games lately.

IIRC, Doom has some people on it from Retro Studios. Wouldn't be too surprising as they are both in Austin, I think. The devs might have some interest in porting Doom, considering there is some contacts there.

So you thought he had an actual concussion from a virtual beating?

You're missing the point entirely. No one thought the reason he gave was serious, that part was obviously a joke....but that doesn't mean the "ignore" part or the whole point of the tweet being to deny what he originally said was as well.

If he had said something he wasn't supposed to by announcing it, there are all sorts of reasons he'd deny it and try to move attention away from it and obviously telling us the actual reason would have made it worse. There wasn't anything to suggest that whole thing was supposed to be a joke.

Vulkan wouldn't really help with performance per se, but rather would allow them to skip the step of translating the renderer to a new proprietary API, which can be quite a lot of work. My thinking is that if Bethesda saw strong initial sales of Switch and wanted to have another title out by the end of the year, Doom would have been a relatively quick port due to the fact that they could use their existing Vulkan renderer as a base.

The main issue with a Doom port would probably be staffing. Although id don't have any of their own titles releasing soon, the new Wolfenstein game is using id Tech, so a lot of the engine team have probably been hard at work on that.

It's gonna be Starfield. Atleast according to a leaker who leaked Bethesda's plans for the next 10+ years.

On himself

I'm not a freelance coder i've worked with Bethesda for several years. I wont say when I joined for safety but i've done a lot of work to help these franchises even i'm not as high a position as quite a few people i've grown attached to them in my own weird way. I get that must sound kind of odd but its just how I think it legitimately is the best job i've ever had i've just grown tired of all the bullshit secrecy.

I want to be transparent with fans about what I know and i'm confident I wont be fired or found out as i've taken a lot of precautions and I hope once the announcements are made tomorrow and there's a lot of information out about the game to confirm everything i've said I can continue to be as transparent as possible about everything going on at Bethesda.

The two projects before TES VI

You see starfield and the game of thrones project are two fully sized Bethesda games. They aren't just some side project. Its the whole massive world, mod support, etc etc

On TES VI

Quick information about the next Elder Scrolls games.

TESVI is planned to take place on Akavir. Its going to have Bethesdas biggest designed open world yet and will feature an upgraded and highly advanced version of the settlement system from Fallout 4. Basically the plot is you're a prisoner sent on an imperial colonial ship to the continent of Akavir.

The reason the settlement mode will be a thing but even bigger is because you're going to be building colonies on said continent.

The game will feature 4 new races but they're not sure if they want to include all of them as playable. One of the races is Human and is the first asian race in the franchise and is based off the Japanese. The second race is a humanoid monkey race, Third is debated by the team to either be a humanoid snake race or a parasite race, fourth race is a humanoid tiger race.

The reason why TESVII is Todds magnum opus is because he wants TESVII to take place in the entire continent of Tamriel but with current technology he doesn't want to try and build it because he wants the game to feature full destructability, a return to roots in advanced RPG mechanics yet still have more actiony combat, and wants to make the size of the world be more accurate to canon which none of the games post daggerfall have done.

If you want to know what the story is going to be there's some debate but the one the team is leaning towards is the Dwemer have been preparing for an invasion of Tamriel in a pocket dimension and the games "gimmic" other than taking place in all of Tamriel and advanced customization will be the inclusion of flintlock pistols, blunderbusses, etc and steampunk elements because of the Dwemer.

On Starfield

Here's some information about Starfield I posted so I don't get asked the same things over and over.

The game will feature space travel and hub worlds aswell as RNG worlds. Its meant to be a test into more sandboxy/minecraft ish AAA thing but with Bethesda gameplay and still actual designed worlds/quests/etc.

The game features 12 well designed companions similar to the companions in Fallout 4 all of which can be romanced but also has generic companions similar to Skyrims which can be romanced/married aswell but with much more generic dialogue options.

The game will not have a limit on the amount of people you can romance just like Fallout 4 meaning you can have your harem of alien waifus if that is your desire. The game also features alien prostitutes.

The game will actually feature 5 seperate questlines based on which faction you join. 1 questline is reserved for loners if you don't like any of the factions and want to tackle whats going on on your own.

The playable races in the game are all going to be Humanoid. Its going to be a mix of straight up humans themselves, robot like races, and races based off of popular conspiracy esque races aswell as possible precursor races to elder scrolls to further the interconnected universe connection but as I said there is still some debate on whether or not these races will be playable or not.

You will be able to build settlements on any RNG world and in certain locations on designed areas aswell. Its much more advanced than the Fallout 4 system and you will be able to basically build colonies/actual cities/etc they're basically Beta testing ideas for the colony system in TESVI.

The combat is is mostly centered around guns. The customization is a much better version than Fallout 4 but yes there are melee weapons aswell. There are weapons similar to lightsabers but nothing that obvious.

I will not be commenting directly on the story.

The Dialogue options are much more similar to Skyrim than Fallout 4..*

On Release dates

And lastly here's the estimated release date of where we want to release our games but its not set in stone but this is definitely what we're shooting for.

Starfield 2017

Game of Thrones Project 2020

TESVI 2023

Fallout project 2025

TESVII 2030

"So lets get some things straight. I was right about everything including Skyrim VR which they didn't want to show at their conference to take away the light from their show and I was the only person who leaked Skyrim VR in particularly.

Now some of you may be asking. "What happened to Starfield" Well I kept trying to make posts over and over trying to let you guys know they weren't gonna show Starfield because of my leaks to try and discredit them because of how much information they had.

Now what's more likely: I get literally everything right and they don't show off 1 thing the biggest thing to try and discredit a leak that shows their plans up to the 2030 or i'm a liar.

I'm sorry some of you didn't see my warning that they weren't gonna show it at the last minute but there was still some residual effects from Starfield at the show. You may have noticed all the stars and stuff like that around. That was all because of Starfield.

Now i'm not really sure what the fuck is going on down here at Bethesda but after that conference they locked some things down trying to find the leaker and I have no idea when they plan on showing Starfield but they were ready to release the game this year keep that in mind so i'm assuming they're either gonna show announce it a bit later this year or possibly delay it another year and announce it at the video game awards ala Skyrim but this is just pure speculation and I get that's not why you guys came to me.

Sorry guys. Pray I don't get fired and I think I may have been responsible for ruining Bethesdas E3 conference. My bad."

take it with a grain of salt because the leaker was from 4chan but in the past there have been multiple leaks on 4chan already

No way it's star-field. There's only 3.5 months left in the year and no hints of an upcoming reveal. If there's any truth to that leak then plans have changed or delayed.

It'll be a mobile game, or Elder Scrolls card game or port.

What if Starfield was the game Gerstman was teasing? Also, didn't Howard say he wanted the time between the reveal and release of his next game to be even shorter than Fallout 4's?

Pretty much none of what he said adds up. I don't see why you'd put any credibility into what he says, half of it is just completely absurd and would require knowledge of pretty much everything Bethesda is doing, even knowledge of their deals with business partners. The claims of being "right about everything" when there wasn't even anything that far-fetched he 'predicted' doesn't help at all, either. Somehow having a fairly substantial about of knowledge about a game 6 years away should be enough to show it's probably not true, the claims of them already planning a game they're not going to release for 13 years even more so.

Ah I would've thought that the Vulkan API would help get a bit more out of the hardware in addition to help cut down porting time, but I guess you'd know better than I.

I still think file size is a huge issue too.

First time I've seen that (and this might be a bit off topic) but that TESVI info seems a bit unlikely, mostly the inclusion of the "human" race. I wouldn't count out Akavir as the location, and if it was the location I'm sure they'd include the monkey, tiger and snake-vampire races (can't be bothered to look up the names) in the game but having a race just called "human" makes no sense in the lore of the world. I suppose it could be a misunderstanding on the leaker's part.

But also he claims everything he said was right when a lot of what he said (re: TESVI/VII and Fallout) cannot be verified for a long time, so I'm not sure if I'd trust that. Who knows.

Well, I hope it's a game from Bethesda Game Studios and not a published game. It would blow me away if they announce a new open world game that's also for sale this year but it really would have been perfect for them to have announced Starfield at E3 with how their theme had stars and it took place at night outside. It feels like a missed opportunity.

Did he mean fiscal year, or year?

Not gonna happen. Not in 2017, at least. No way Bethesda announces and releases a game in <2 months. Could see a spring release, but even that seems unlikely. More like, that Game of Thrones game pops up for the Spring, with Starfield for next fall.

The only hope I have left for Bethesda is they hired Obsidian to make an actual RPG.

This is a meme comment at this point, right? That partnership ended years ago and I'm pretty sure I've seen comments from both sides that made it clear it was never going to happen again.

Obsidian is better than anything Bethesda has to offer, anyways. They deserve more than being tied down to Bethesda's bullshit.

We do know that Pete said they have two "very big projects" in the works and those would come BEFORE ESVI.

Edit:

He and Todd both have hinted at the fact the tech for their ideas with ESVI are not currently available. Could mean the hardware in the current consoles, or possibly a new engine. A new engine...LMAO

I dont really believe the leak, but if true, Starfield doesnt sound that good. It sounds like space Fallout 4.5.

That part is not unbelievable, but the schedule leaking is. I doubt anyone would know that beyond those who are really high up. It also seems weird that they would plan so far ahead.

It doesn't have to be Obsidian, it could be any other developer. I just want to play a competent Elder Scrolls or Fallout that isn't a watered-down mess.

Hmmmmm. I wonder if this was the long ago rumored "ALIENS" type action/rpg they were apparently rumored to be making?

why would they not show one of their marquee titles at E3. or give a few months heads up, doesn't make any sense past a mobile title or whatever

Actually, Obsidian did mention they'd love to work with Bethesda/on Fallout again.
