Media Create Sales: Week 35, 2017 (Aug 28 - Sep 03)

Saint Titanfall
what if SMT HD is actually the main event of the fall Direct with the the project's first trailer
It'll probably be more than that. These days Nintendo tries to waste less time during directs with a more rapid fire approach. More likely to be number of smaller announcements rather than 1 big one for a direct of this length.

Splatoon 2 isn't leaving anytime soon, the most recent splatfest was even talked about a bit by Fujioka Akane on Weather News SOLiVE24 this weekend.

Agree. Saying that Splatoon 2 is only going to keep selling thanks to bundle is going for rude awakening there. I see it on the level of Animal Crossing on 3DS last gen which will keep selling till the end of time.^_^

yeah, even in the west, the whole Flight vs Invisibility was talked about pretty frequently, let alone Japan

I mean even Travis Strikes Again was the main event of the last showcase

We saw what Splatoon could do on the Wii U. On hardware that's actually desirable it's obviously going to do substantially better. Bundles or not.

This is probably some mistake and doesn't mean much, by a few days ago on the exhibitors site on TGS Monster Hunter World had a Winter 2018 release window.

Now it just says 2018

Well, i mean, we also predict that MHW would come out next year holiday right?

Why would that be a mistake? Game is slated for Early 2018 release, so... Winter 2018.

Capcom would be insane to delay MH World. Really. Unless it's like a month or so, but even then.

Yeah, like that 20 minutes of Odyssey at E3 just like everyone predicted.

I don't think they could justify a delay out of the fiscal year to their shareholders considering their consistence in falling short.

Maybe they are doing this cause they came to their senses and are gonna localize XX now?

I doubt World is getting delayed.

Hahahaha

Winter 2018 would be December-March.

The just 2018 change could imply a delay, that's why I posted, Japanese forums are speculating such.

Oh, right, derpity derp. Thought it originally said 2018 then was changed to Winter 2018 then back to 2018 for some reason.

While I think we generally look at analyst numbers as dubious, the number from that analyst suggesting an expect 1.5mil "from what he was told by Capcom" already pointed at a delay because 1.5mil globally would have suggest it releasing day-and-date on the end of the FY. Basically, if those were real numbers, they were expecting a *week* or less of total sales for their FY reporting.

If it is now delayed outright or indicative of such, I think this may actually suggest that analyst had been told expectations that had already been leaning to a delay, and now it is just outright delayed.

Impossible to say how much Splatoon 2 (or whatever game it might be for that matter) would have sold without the bundle, but some say its artificially increases the sales when a game is being bundled.

"some" do not understand the difference between bundling Splatoon 2 and bundling Knack.

Not in the case of Splatoon 2.
I wasnt thinking about Knack actually, but it doesnt really matter. Just saying that its impossible to say how much it would have sold with or without bundle. I see i wasnt too clear on this, i think the game would have sold 2m+ even without any bundle, so sales up to this point probably wouldnt be that much different, bundle or not. But i see others talking about 4m+.

For those who were expecting Animal Crossing news in the Direct:

Translation: "yeah no fam, ain't gonna be no phone info in that Direct, yo"

Of course not, they're going to be busy revealing Zelda mobile at Apple's event within 24 hours.

Wink...

If the sell through was being artificially inflated all that would happen is tons of used copies would flood the market and kill the legs as soon as bundling stopped. Like 50% of Switches have it bundled. Is there a flood of used copies anyone in Japan?

See my 2nd post right above here, i already adressed it there. I dont think a bundle or not matters much up to this point, but mostly thinking about the 4m+ number mentioned earlier.

I'd assume most people buying Switch in Japan want Splatoon and that the bundle just makes it convenient :p.
Indeed. Splatoon 2 is one of the bigger reasons for why the Switch is so popular now.

Would be interesting if they did have something at the apple event like Animal Crossing or that rumored Zelda mobile game.
I was thinking AC and Zelda aren't comparable to Mario+Miyamoto...but I remember they used some Wizard of Oz game to showcase their phones one year.

Plz no, if only because that means very late Android release. :-(

Zelda needs a JRPG adaption a la Mario

They put that much personality into the Mushroom Kingdom for Mario.

Imagine what could be done with Zelda, (which clearly has more to work with)

Zelda Maker would be awesome. I mean, the Maker brand itself is wide-appealing on Nintendo fanbase.

I think need is a strong word, but I'd like one. Both because I want more JRPG on Nintendo and because I think they could do a more story/world/character focused run at Hyrule.

I think I'd most want a retelling of Ganondorf's story, colored by his quotes in windwaker. I'd rather explore him cozying up to the Hyrule court and stealing the Triforce than on him being the secret evil god that shows up at the end :p.

Idk. Problem there is obviously that OoT isn't built with a lot of moving parts so it'd definitely need to stray from that material. There'd need to be more going on in Hyrule and a "moment" for someone like Ganondorf to step into.

Or I guess they could stick truer to the modern Mario RPG trend of "wacky" side-story with cameos alongside original content. The thing is I feel that that approach fits Mario better than Zelda for me. When I think Zelda RPG, I think something more melodramatic :p.

Paper Zelda would be neat.
Make it a Zelda parody, partners are the OoT mainstay races, etc.

Maybe aiming for a higher age group could allow them to have more dialogue/story and a more challenging battle system.

If there's too many Mario RPGs that Paper Mario isnt' allowed to be one anymore, then make it something else.

I don't think anything else/a more traditional JRPG would be needed. Difference between the likes of BOTW and FFXV aren't super different outside of not using traditional leveling mechanics and actually being good.

How about a Zelda chapter of Terra Battle 2? Written by Matsuno?!?

I dunno if Matsuno would be a great fit, but a Zelda event, sure, why not? Terra Battle's mechanics are flexible enough to handle any sort of storytelling. But Fire Emblem would probably be a better fit for a crossover, since there's an actual mobile title to promote.

There was supposed to be a Mario after that, but he went missing.

I wonder what they would do with Zelda on mobile.

They could obviously make a game like the DS entries: an isometric, classic Zelda would work with phone controls just fine.

But, after Mario and FE, I presume they'd rather monetize it like FE? But they're Nintendo so idk.

Tbh, if it were a good classic Zelda and there weren't too many deviations driven by a mobile monetization plan (such that I was scared off), it could be the first Nintendo mobile game I'd actually buy.

Idk. Maybe do a dungeon room or so as a level?

But what do they monetize? Gadgets and weapons? Outfits? Magic meter? Cute/cool/sexy art? Levels like SMR?

Triforce Heroes minus the required co-op, with leaderboards/time attack for every stage, lots more cosmetic customization, a hub town/lobby, and optional co-op challenges.
Hmmm...

I wonder if they could also do a one-room type deal, just really simple and "get out as fast as you can!"

Although there'd be less leaderboard fun there, I'd imagine, as there'd be less room in the shorter challenge to separate people and within which to improve.

Especially if it were just figuring out easily repeatable puzzle solutions. Combat, extra space, alternate routes, using gear to trivialize, sequence break, etc. all could add room for a leaderboard to exist.

Edit: my point is even if it is ultimately non-obvious as to how or beyond a player's skill to get the best times, you'd want there to be obvious ways to improve your time.
