Hopefully not a Sonic Mania "Whoops, we're delaying this for improvements" and having a dose of Denuvo slapped on.

As long as they turn out a quality port* in the end, I'm OK with this delay.

(I heard a few rumors that the port is not in good shape at the moment.)

*arbitrary rsolutuon support is my dealbreaker

Rumors were going around that the PC port was rough, so maybe its best to take care of that.

Also its not Denuvo, this game is coming out DRM free on GoG

On one hand, I'm down for a delay if it means getting a better experience. On the other hand, it's kind of messed up to drop the news so late. I was really looking forward to this! More time to finish Yakuza I suppose.

Because delaying it less than 24h before release is just a really shitty thing to do.
Gonna refund that shit.

If they released it tomorrow, it would've been a shitty thing to do.
Also to people talking about Denuvo or piracy, you're aware the game is getting a GOG release ?

This is for quality only.

It really isn't.

Do you actually think people would look up things before being angry and spewing bullshit up? Of course not.

Because it's kinda scummy to wait until the very last minute to say "hey guys, we're not releasing this game y'all been waiting for for months because turns out there are technical issues with it we gotta solve".

That's how game development works. I bet they thought they could fix it up before launch. They couldn't. It happens.

This game is coming to GOG aswell so there wouldn't be Denuvo. The reason is simply the port sucks and they didn't want to sully their reputation.

Better delay and make it a good port (from reports of the beta, it wasn't really that good)

...? Why?

Because it's kinda scummy to wait until the very last minute to say "hey guys, we're not releasing this game y'all been waiting for for months because turns out there are technical issues with it we gotta solve".

I mean, okay, I'm disappointed with the delay as much as the next guy, but it's not like they found out about the port being busted today. Reports have been around for a while that things were crappy, it'd have been better to pull this off sooner rather than less than 24 hours before it launched.

Things are made even worse by the fact that the post doesn't even give an estimate for the release, so you're left wondering just how badly they fucked it up for the thing to be in this sorry a state.

Also, no, I don't think this is Denuvo. It just screams NISA incompetence, really, especially since it's releasing on GOG and all.

It'd be funny to delay to slap that on Steam only to release DRM free on GOG, huge "but why?" scenario.

But given the hints floating around it probably is optimization.

No. They're doing it for good reasons.

The game is releasing on GOG so there are no need for Denuvo woes.
NISA taking this step to improve the PC ver. is admirable.
And heck it gives me a reason to go about playing Spidey Shattered Dimensions until it releases, phew.

I wasn't serious about the Denuvo stuff. I haven't been following the development of this game, but apparently the port has been bad all along as evident by some in this thread, yet they still had it up for pre-orders and preload, which seems that they wanted to hide this? Why didn't they just say that it was delayed a week ago or something? They must've known it would be unfixable in a weeks time.

They've been trying hard and worked even on week end. Really.

That's a shame. I think I will just go with PS4 version. Hopefully this turns into a great port eventually, though.

You would have assumed if the port was bad, this decision would have been made clear a week ago.

Announcing it less than 24 hours before its expected launch doesn't seem like a good sign if they knew it was in poor shape.

Or they've been working on the fixes hoping to iron them out by release, but alas they needed more time.

I mean there probably is a good reason.

Just it's starting to suck with games that have Japanese publishing or related to a Japanese publisher getting delayed so close to release.

Or in the case of some games just launching bad.

Everything is fixable.
You just need to know how :p

Heh well sure. But we've seen many games where that was not the case. What if they try to rush "the fixing" so they can release the game asap?

At the same time this could be something small and pc release will be great like TLoH CS ;)

I kinda see it as a case of they tried all they could to fix the game up until today following feedback from beta testers so that they could release it on time tomorrow and maybe had enough faith they could do it but it was still not up to a certain quality so at the last moment just delayed the game and have a little more time because that would be better than releasing it tomorrow, getting review bombed on steam for a bad port and turning people away from the game.

Well, that's why they were so mum. Good, delay it to iron out the problems!

SEND IN DURANTE ASAP
I'd be very curious to see just what the issue is and what it would take to fix (and also what a more contemporary Falcom codebase looks like), but I don't have much time right now.

I found it worrying when they started the beta test sign up only two weeks before release, felt like it wasn't enough time to iron things out.
