What would YOU like to see in a Smash Switch

Give me all the stages. No more of this "For Wii U" and "For 3DS" stuff, put all the stages in one cart, and if possible some more legacy stages. Smash For Wii U is great but its stage selection is honestly abysmal, the gimmicks in most stages are aggravating and Omega Mode was not the one-size-fits-all solution that I think they thought it would be during development.

Of course I'd like to see more characters too, but I don't imagine getting very many if any at all (hope Ice Climbers make a return though)

It's E3. We've just seen an amazing Smash 5 trailer with reveals for Inklings and the Ice Climbers. After, we cut to one last reveal.

Link is walking through the snow, ascending up a mountain almost like he's making a pilgrimage. He reaches the peak, but suddenly jumps back to avoid a huge blast of air that strikes the ground. Link skids to a halt in front of a stone wall covered in strange runes.

We see a rune just above Link's shoulder start to glow and sizzle, and we hear a faint chanting that sounds like a choir of barbarians, growing louder by the second. Energy pours from the runes, going past Link and funneling into the warrior that now stands before him. A warrior clad in studded leather armor, lined with fur. An iron helm punctuated with two ram horns adorns his head. The Dragonborn.

There's your doc brown spider monster

Smash as a platform. Start with all the Smash 4 characters and stages, and give me copious amounts of DLC. Promote every game that comes out. Hat stage for Mario Odyssey. New stage and skin for Metroid Prime 4. And lots of aesthetic options. I want more Link skins than there were in Hyrule Warriors. Also, whenever possible, make alts with variant gameplay. Dr. Mario as a skin for Mario, but pills > fireballs. Lucina as a skin for Marth, but with equal distribution instead of the sweet spot. Young Link as a Toon Link alt. Rex as a Shulk alt. Lyn lee with a laser sword as another Shulk alt.

And put fucking Lyn in the goddamn game. Also, Shantae and Travis Touchdown.

It seems like with Mario and Zelda returning to less casual, more focused on deep gameplay games, we might actually get a good smash game again. Brawl and 4 are not fun to me at all. The focus on removing basic movement like dash dancing, increasing knockback with a lack of adequate hitstun to follow up any combos, and the castration of ledgeplay all make smash 4 and brawl incredibly unsatisfying to play. Add in ridiculous rolls, spotdoges, shields, and spammable airdodges and you have a defensive game that is a chore to play.

I want a new engine, I want a continuation of smash like 64-melee. Not a regression that hampers any depth.

Please please, the ability to change stock for individual characters.

And like most people are saying, a single player campaign, and fun modes that expand on the loot system that Smash 4 introduced. And daily quests and events similar to the Multiverse in Injustice 2.

-Plenty of new stages with interesting ideas, along with popular classic stages.
-Omega versions as well as another version (call it Alpha maybe) where only hazards are removed. "Delta" version could be like Omega, but turns all stages into Battlefield. Basically, For Glory mode is stale right now and things like this could help.
-Put Ice Climbers, Snake, Wolf back in.
-Add Phoenix Wright and Knuckles.
-Single player similar to Melee. I can't imagine something like Brawl or MvC Infinite working.
-Embrace what was created with Melee. Either recreate the physics or work with the community to create Melee 2.0.
-Revamp moves where it makes sense. Update for more modern entries in franchises.
-Better/more visual options for characters. Project M had some good ideas like Dry Bowser, but also avoid ugly ones like Jet Set Sonic.
-While we're dreaming, let's make Banjo-Kazooie happen.

Like most people, there are characters I really want in: Spring Man, Inklings, Squirtle, etc. But I do feel the roster is growing so large, that there must be another way to keep things fresh.

If I'm in charge of Smash, I introduce a character variation structure. Basically, characters can have different stances with complete movesets to select before playing. You don't get to mix and match custom moves, these are complete and balanced characters, just built off existing ones.

I see no reason why we can't have standard Luigi, and a variation based on Luigi's Mansion, Mario Odyssey/Sunshine/Kart variations. I think this kind of system would appeal to fans because it's ripe for DLC variations of existing characters, and it feels like a harmless way to get clone-ish characters.

At the very least, it's a more interesting execution of the throwaway custom moves idea.

I really just want an excuse to revisit the movesets of veteran characters. The newest newcomers in Smash feel so different from other cast members. They are really unique. Would love to see a re imagining of older cast members

-All stages ever from every game ported into it with revamped graphics for melee and 64 stages.

-Stealing PASBR idea of mash up stages but done right

-Arms and Splatoon reps

-All 3rd party characters back, including snake.

The return of the proper-sized Great Fox stage from Smash64. I absolutely HATE the way they shrunk it down in every subsequent game it's been in.

Custom moves for the DLC characters. Skull Kid, Bomberman, Inklings, Kid Chameleon & Scizor as characters. Inkopolis, New Donk City & Shrine interior (BoTW) as stages.

Melee-esque physics. Everything else is fluff if the game doesn't feel satisfying to play.

Ayup.

If it had that, then it would be guaranteed to be superb, almost. I mean, the visuals, music and all sorts of content is usually top of the line anyway. But it needs this (or generally movement/physics that feel amazing).

Mostly two things:

Every previous third party character + stage returning, including Snake.

Simon Belmont + a Castlevania stage being added in.

Oh, and a single player story mode of some kind, even if is a new subspace emissary style one. A tonal overhaul in terms of presentation, menus and announcer would also be appreciated to help make the game feel fresh but I guess most people would riot if that happened.

Fuck that. Smash is perfect as it is, if you want a different game, buy a different game.

Seriously, I have some choice words for rebooting a franchise that is perfectly healthy. I said most of those words when DmC was released.

Okay, so how many times do you want to buy the same game?

Maybe a better choice for you would be a game as service type of Smash Bros.

And you know what their plans are how?

Straightforward extrapolation of their continued strategy for the past nearly twenty years?

Okay, so how many times do you want to buy the same game?

If you think they are "the same game", you're too clueless about Smash for me to take your opinion seriously.

Maybe a better choice for you would be a game as service type of Smash Bros.

No thanks, I'm good. Maybe a better choice for you is to buy an actual different game. There's no shortage of Smash clones, don't let me stop you.

I wouldn't say that just because he doesn't want to continue Melee's direction means he "despises" it. I mean, his views on the game can be criticized, but he's happy people still play it, so...

But he also outright stated he's never going to make a game like Melee ever again. Doesn't sound like something someone would say if they liked something.

Above everything else, I want a custom intro. None of this "oh look, an amalgamation of footage, trailers, and in-game cutscenes," crap.

Tell me Melee doesn't have one of the greatest intros ever, and I'll tell you that you're a damned liar.

I guess here's a list of personal wants, and I know how unlikely many of them are. I also don't expect even half this many new character "slots" in the game:

Characters:
-Lip (Panel de Pon)
-Rinko (Love Plus)
-Yuri Kozukata (Fatal Frame)
-Sheeda (Fire Emblem)
-Inkling (Splatoon)
-Ribbon Girl(Arms)
-Dillon...I mean he does have a new game?
-Shantae
-Impa
-Ice Climbers

Stages:
-Poke Floats
-Silph Co
-Shadow Dragon related
-and one stage from each of the above's franchises

Assist trophies:
-Camus
-tiki
-ditto
-marie/callie
-mipha

Overall:

-I believe Smash 4's gameplay mechanics is the best in the series and want that to be overall unchanged.

-I loved Subspace Emissary, would like another story based mode.

-Let us use our own music files for matches.

-More costumes, less alt colors.

(yes I did just advocate for yet another Fire Emblem character)

Melee's intro is so good, agreed. Still the best Smash intro by far.

Shantae with dances / transformations would be pretty great.

Impa would be interesting, there's no "huge sword" character in the game (except Cloud, I guess), which is a pretty common fighting game archetype. I would also love to get a goron, zora and (non-Ganon, female) gerudo; I know it's asking for a lot, but I think they could provide very distinct gameplay.

Which reminds me: please remake Ganondorf as a sword character, and give his current moveset (sorry, "function") to Black Shadow from F-Zero. Hell, I'll take Impa and Ganondorf as speed-differentiated semi-clones the way Ganondorf and Captain Falcon are now. Yes, I know Ganondorf isn't particularly known for carrying huge swords, but tell me it wouldn't fit him.

-I believe Smash 4's gameplay mechanics is the best in the series and want that to be overall unchanged.
-More costumes, less alt colors.

I wholeheartedly agree with these two, I like Smash 4's balance between accesibility and speed. A bit faster / closer to melee is fine, but no slower than 4. It would also be great to have alt costumes (removing Daisy was such a puzzling move).

Straightforward extrapolation of their continued strategy for the past nearly twenty years?

Soo...continue to add more characters with increasingly lower recognition and sentimental value until everyone's highly selective roster fantasies are met, all the while continuing the trend of taking less risks with the gameplay and theme?

But he also outright stated he's never going to make a game like Melee ever again. Doesn't sound like something someone would say if they liked something.

I've always taken that as it's something he's still proud of, but it represented a direction he's not particularly interested in continuing.

You could say that he's still including Melee stages/music would indicate fond feelings on his end, although I guess that's just "fluff" in the end.

Tell me Melee doesn't have one of the greatest intros ever, and I'll tell you that you're a damned liar.

At this point, Smash has reached such a massive level of development that I doubt we'll ever get an intro of that caliber again. Granted, both games since were subject to resource-sucking stuff like the Subspace Emissary and Smash 4's two versions, but even with how much the games have grown in size...

It's a shame, but it is what it is, I guess. The actual game is what's most important.

But Melee intro is based on footage and trailers too.

I'm sorry, are you talking about what you want them to do, or what you expect them to do? You keep flip-flopping between the two and I don't know if it's out of disingenuity, genuine confusion, or what.

That and the hilarious strawman aside, yes, that's what I both expect and want them to do. Why would I want them to actively remove perfectly good content? Why would they need to take "risks" when the core gameplay is rock solid and the theme is perfectly defined? How does the "lower recognition and sentimental value" argument hold water when they added Pac-Man, Cloud and Megaman to the latest entry, and they can tap into the massive current popularity of Splattoon for the next one? Again, it just seems like you want a different game than what Smash is, and that is fine: there already are different games, just buy one of them.

I'm expecting none of this, but I'd certainly like them:
- More options in general (set specific item spawn %, specific Pokemon summon %, turning specific hazards on/off per stage)
- A bigger and better custom stage editor with more texture options, stage lightning, stage backgrounds, maybe even certain hazards
- Expanded Mii Fighters. More clothing options, clothing colouring options, more fighter types (magic, axe/club, pole/spear, etc).
- Option to allow Final Smash attacks to be build up through a bar over time, think Lil Mac's uppercut. Bonus if they add more of these specials for each character (the L-button + direction could work?) and balance it all out so certain ones aren't easy/instant kill moves anymore.
- Cram in more obscure NES characters as fighters because I love that shit.

Lastly as an aside I wouldn't mind them having a SF3 style approach with the roster in general. Keep atleast one character of each current franchise in the roster (it's still a battle of Nintendo all stars after all), with the bigger franchises keeping their core casts (Mario Luigi Peach Bowser, Link Zelda Ganon, Kirby Meta Knight Dedede, Pokemon gang). Every other side character is out to make room for new faces, from the current franchises and some new ones. Some of the cut veteran characters can return through DLC at some point I guess.
It'd piss off too many fans so I don't see them do it, but it'd be a nice way to still get 15-20 newcomers without bloating the roster size like crazy.

Maturity, bitches.
Melee-esque physics. Everything else is fluff if the game doesn't feel satisfying to play.

Weird, cos Smash 4 didn't have Melee-esque physics and it was perfectly fine to play.

Besides, all that really matters is I can play as Mario and kick Captain Falcon in the balls.

I know nothing about Smash Bros so I'll suggest something sacrilegious:

X Special and Y Special buttons to replace custom moves.

Oh, you mean like in Street Fighter where performing special moves with different buttons (L-M-H) has different properties? Wow, I actually like that idea a lot! The only thing is that it would add complexity on a game that's all about simplicity (and make it more difficult to play with simpler controllers like the single joycons), but man, it would add a lot of choice and depth. It would also make characters like Palutena ridiculously fun to use.

I especially like this idea because of how custom moves are almost completely wasted in 4; they're not allowed in most competitive settings, and barely anyone bothers to take the time to set custom characters up in casual play. Now I wonder if this is something that could be modded into 4.

A full cinematic single player story mode kind of like subspace emissary but having more normal matches on top of the side scrolling levels.

Wonder Red
Inkling Boy and Girl swappable like Robin
Ice Climbers return

Melee physics with some of the mechanics from smash 4 staying. Like being able to move after an air dodge...ledge game should go back to melee

Custom color outfits

Overhaul some movesets. (Like ganondorf)

Supers instead of smash balls. Don't like that it's relegated to an item. Should be a meter of some sort

Custom moves still in but accessible in all modes and all available from jump. No unlocking

3rd party characters from smash 4 should return

4 player co-op story mode

Overall the hitstun and other properties should allow for a slightly more combo heavy game than even melee

I know everyone says Melee is the gold standard but I prefer the physics in Smash 4. Not as heavy and more accessible. Gimme that with a graphics facelift and a few more characters and I'm there.

Yeah, I was forgetting that for non-wiimote controls the other face buttons are used for jump though, but maybe B,Y, & B+Y for the variations would cover it.
And of course you could leave in character specific control selection so everyone's happy just using whichever attack on B if they want.

A single player adventure mode. I'm probably in the minority but I absolutely loved the Subspace Emissary.

Subspace Emissary is my favorite part of Brawl. It's how I learned to like most of the characters that weren't from games I had already played. Honestly, it's a huge part of my childhood and I credit it to why I love Nintendo and video games as a whole to this day. I was heartbroken when it wasn't in SSB4.
