Divinity: Original Sin 2 |OT| Dragons & Dungeon Mastering

Combat in this game is addictive af. I can't remember any other rpg that makes low level gameplay so interesting. I'm absolutely killing it with tank, shadowblade and 2 summoners - so much flexibility (and cheese *cough*)!

When do vendors update their selection with new skill books? At level 4 and then again at 6? I'm almost level 6, still on starting skill presets (this really is a testament to how varied the combat can be with such limited selection).

A small but good tip, buy or steal a Bedroll so you can heal after every battle.

You don't have to steal or buy, there's one for free lying around to the east of the Kitchen.

Tempted to drop lohse for beast, reds to good as a tank and sebille is just plain funny.

Question about that: will there be any problems down the line if I have Red and Sebille in the same team? Based on their stories and characters, they should hate each other, right?

I have them all in my party (no custom character).

Beast adds a lot to the encounters and conversations with the dwarves. Red Prince and Lohse have interesting storylines.

you can respec any party member into whatever you want for free, just pick them based on their personality
Oh I know I can respec into anything, running three wizards and a tank. Current setup is Poly-Necro Summoner, multi-elemental mage, utility mage and mage-strength tank.

Asking again for a new page.

I'm towards the end of the island of Act 1 just exploring a few things before I go get
Gareth

I took Sebille to see
Zaleskar

Is there anything else I need to do with regards to HER quest line before I leave the island. Is the next part in Act 2?

just read the quest log, it says where the next step is located for all quests.

I think I left the fort way too early because every damn encounter is wiping the floor with my team's collective asses on Classic. I've tried playing with the elements, unchaining my teammates to put them in strategic spots before big fights, to no avail. Summoner/Wayfarer/Enchanter/Knight team. It won't be too painful to restart because I love the game, but damn, the Hollow Marshes are a bottomless pit of despair so far :)

I just got a 2h Sword 'Reaper' but Ivan can't equip it. Needs 12 strength, he has 20. What's going on?? It doesn't give any error or anything just simply won't hold it. Red Prince holds it fine.

Edit - sorted it!

You want to put as much into pickpocketing as you can, it will be the main civil skill for your thief of choice.

The higher your pickpocket the higher the gold and weight value of the things you can steal are. Also some characters have minimums on them for skill before you can take anything.

with 6 or 7 levels in pickpocket you can take upwards of almost 10k gold

Daaaamn, is there items that give pickpocket skill points i can get in chapter 1?

Also, anything missable in chapter 1 i can't do once im in chapter 2?

Ps can somebody explain the importance of cheese to me having not played the first game?

Was it just there was a funny npc who sold cheese in the first one or something? What does consuming it do?

I've been looking for a game to sink my teeth into, and this is sounding really good. Never played Divinity though, so will need to read up and watch videos etc. How does this game play? Would you recommend it to someone who will be mostly playing solo?

Is there a big town in this game similar to the one in the first game?

First big area is a town but it's much easier to get through than the one in the first game imo. Also, writing, as others have pointed out, is much much better this time around.

I'm really glad I gave the game another shot, I couldn't stomach the first but this one is superb.

I think most of us are playing solo. I'm playing with a created main character and 3 of the 'origin' companions (remade characters with story and extra quests and dialogue).
Game does a wonderful job of making you feel like a party with different motivations and responses travelling together.

Like, I don't feel 'alone' playing solo one bit. This isn't for lack of friends playing the game. I just like to explore at my own pace and think about how my companions feel.

Having said that, people who are playing co-op seem to be having a blast. I'll give it a go after or try some online dungeon master stuff.

Overall, game is fucking great. Like bafflingly good. Give Larian all of your money. Has made me completely drop Destiny. Was mid-raid when that dropped and haven't really gone bak. As someone who played like 500 hours of the first Destiny. It doesn't consume my attention and imagination in the way DOS:II does.

Thanks, looks like I'll be picking this up some time soon then :)

Just headed into Act 2 and a bunch of quests which I'm pretty sure were tied up apparently weren't. E.g
saving the pigs or saving Slane
, my quest log now says I didn't, but I certainly did. Common bug?

I'm pretty sure the
pig
one isn't done just by
saving the pigs
, there's more after that

Ah I see. The
Slane one
I believe kicks in towards the end of Act 1 but I'd already got past the
Shriekers
before I met and saved him so I'm not sure how I was meant to 'finish' that one.

I have a Surface Pro 4 i5, can I play this?

I'm playing on the same one at medium settings. Plays well. Surface is a nice little gaming tablet.

And definitely add thieving skills to must have. I didn't realize it until the end of Act 1.

My Red Prince never failed a dialogue check since the first act. He has 4 points in persuasion and 14 wits. I mostly go with strength or wits.

I'm roughly at the same point as you. It's only a room with books and stuff upstairs which you can safely lockpick anyway (it's not a red door).

I guess I really need to move points around and drop something like Lucky Charm from my party fully so I can stack persuasion.

Currently I have one dedicated to thievery, one to bartering, one to loremastery and and doing Lucky Charm for extra loot.

In other news. Tier 10 incarnate blood summon is just bonkers strong.

So gud.

Not sure how much this information is relevant for late game folks, however for the sake of character building.

Via cheatengine I leveled up the character from 1 to 20 from the beginning of the game to get an idea of the sort of points we'll have access to for the sake of planning out specific builds.

At level 20 this assumes an all natural stat gain with no skill books or special events or quests that award additional stat points (assuming these exist like they did in the first Original Sin)

This is what a level 20 character has access to for the sake of character planning, implying a SOFT CAP of level 20, even if it's possible to get higher than level 20.

Stat Attribute Points : 38
Combat Ability Points : 19
Civil Ability Points : 5
Talent Points : 4

I hope this info is useful for character planners.

Which skill tree combo well with scoundrel? Ifan doesn't do as much damage as my 2-handed warrior or my crossbow hunter.

Poly tree is great with a scoundrel. You can use chameleon cloak (only 1 AP) to disappear. So you can get right in the middle of a batch of enemies, do some backstabls, and then disappear so you don't have to worry about getting ganged up on when the turn is over.

The flight ability makes it easy to get around the battlefield quickly.

Also use ruptured tendons (inflicts damage when the enemy moves) and then turn them into a chicken. Chickens run really, really far so the enemy may just commit suicide doing so.

Just about to start this, anyone got any useful tips for me? It's my very first time playing a Divinity game.

One thing that I don't think the game ever teaches you- when you engage in dialogue you only lose control of the speaking character. So if someone is moving around too much to make it hard to sneak behind them for backstab or pickpocket you can have one party member speak to him then click on another party member mid-conversation and pick pocket while the mark is distracted.

Is this game similar to Diablo?

For anyone looking for a game with similar qualities but more "like Diablo" let me put in a plug for Larian's first game Divine Divinity. Heavily influenced by Diablo 2 in many ways (seriously just look at the screenshots) the game will surprise you with it's incredible world reactivity and intricate quests dotting the map. Plus it's the game closest in the current chronology to Original Sin 2.

DD is vastly underrated and I keep hoping that the success of OS1 and 2 will get people to revisit Larian's back catalog. They have always been a great developer (Beyond Divinity excepted).

There are some interesting mods out. Some of them might be buggy because it's so early but for example:

No party limit (I have a feeling this isn't fully tested and might break the game at some point)
Better taunt (bypasses armor... really tempted to install this)
Skillbook unlock (removes the level limit of skillbooks that cause them to appear for merchants)

Also a mod that decreases tactician difficulty enemy bonuses by some amount. Good mod if you are like me and think that the armor bonuses that enemies eventually get in tactician are just really silly. Haven't installed any of these myself though. Gonna save mods for second playthrough.

Tactician is in a good spot. It's tough, especially before level 5, but it's supposed to be that way.
I started the game on tactician and hit a brick wall that I couldn't get over no matter what I tried. Restarted in classic and found the game to be ultra easy. Restarted in tactician again and I'm happy with the difficulty/fun ratio. The truth is that this game's tactician is harder than the original's, so maybe that's why so many, including myself, bounced off of it initially.

I keep seeing the number 10 thrown around when it comes to summoning, does something magical happen when you reach it? Because the increase in power from 5 to 8 for example is barely noticeable.

In the tooltip of that spell it says it gets a strong replacement at level 10

Incarnate is replaced by a stronger version on summoning rank 10

I'm surprised they left the possibility to do things that will contradict your journal. Like I pickpocketed someone important, stole his journal, and by reading it it added a chapter to a quest where it says that maybe I shouldn't have killed him, lol.

I haven't done that yet. Wasn't even sure I'll have to do it. Thanks Larian! I had another example but can't remember right now
But seriously that's a mistake they shouldn't be making.

What's the right way to use chameleon? I used it yesterday in a fight and the dude just turn around and him me. Do you need to move after it for it to have effect?

Think the quest system in general seems to be pretty broken. Have maybe 2 or 3 quests 'closed' in my log. Despite completing others and getting the xp dump and quest rewards.

Anyone have a later game Wayfarer? Does it get way cooler stuff later on?

I picked it because elemental arrows sounded cool but unless I'm missing something, it just adds a little elemental damage and doesnt actually poison/set things on fire.

That's never happened to me but maybe certain enemies can see invisible characters.

Also it can be inadvertently removed. IIRC things like rain will cause you to lose the cloak. So if you put on chameleon and then another character casts rain on the area you will lose invisibility.
