Good for Phil. Good for xbox aswell.
I don't think anyone doubted gaming is important for MS. Just that investing in exclusives/first party studios and hardware in the future is going to likely fall by the wayside in lieu of a service games-focused strategy.
Lol people thought they were leaving the console buisness.

He can lay the foundation with decent games and motives in 2018 onwards, I think XB can a platform for everyone.

Good times, huh?

I remember when people said that MS releasing XB games on PC would steer people away from XB1 which hasn't happen yet.

Probably why he hasn't talked to me on Twitter. Moving up in the world and all. Hopefully he'll make time for his best friend that is I.

I hope Spencer has some good next gen plans, that's where they really need to push on. Coasting through the remainder of this one ain't too bad if they come out guns a blazing in the next round.

just play destiny 2 on Xbox One and you have a very high chance of meeting him "personally"
or just visit E3 and other Xbox events...

my personal Microsoft hero tho, is Amy Hood

Are you mental? ;)

Satya is the Dude! The way he has transformed Microsoft from top to bottom is nothing short of incredible. Really looking forward to reading his book in a few weeks.

And congrats to Phil, very well deserved promotion and recognition.

I think he's done quite a bit

- Turned Xbox around after the disaster reveal
- Brought Minecraft to MS
- Backwards compatibility
- Opened Live to connections from other platforms / crossplay

Where would they go? The hardware (console) side of XB is currently carrying them right now.

I don't know. If they are really pushing games as a service/play anywhere type of stuff the hardware seems less important. Just saying that the rumors/speculation/gossip that has been going around for years was always around hardware. I'm not sure anyone ever thought they'd quit gaming entirely, especially not after they bought minecraft.

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.
I don't understand the congrats. This guy killed a number of games and is directly responsible for this year's underwhelming lineup of exclusive games. And people are still acting like this poor performance is not really his fault even though he has been in charge of gaming for many years.

I would definitely agree if they had their PC strategy down, but unfortunately that's not the case. Leaving hardware would essentially mean giving up Live subscriptions and game royalties. Two things they damn sure aren't getting on PC atm.

He's active on twitter and wears cool shirts.

I don't understand why people cry about exclusives like they matter to the vast majority of the population. Phil has done an amazing job at Microsoft and Xbox will only get better with him there.

Not to mention the PC community has largely shunned the Windows Store and UWP.

Pretty much, I wouldn't be shocked if Xbox pc is dropped if things don't pick up in 2018.

Unfortunately, their console is the only one that is viable at the moment and even that is a bit of a stretch.

Because they help bolster a consoles line up giving the gaming population a wealth of different titles to choose from. But by all means keep pretending they don't matter.

Yeah I'm not saying I think they'd do it, just that that is where most of the chatter always centered. I definitely don't think it's a sure thing they remain in the console hardware business as presently constructed.

Strange comment.
What poor performance? Xbox one doing well, their best gen yet. Spencer bring best service, best hardware in 2 months and best lineup in Xbox history early 2018.

I doubt that they'll stop with hardware anytime soon.

Eh, I still think that's very possible. Pending how well the X sells. Microsoft very obviously just wants you on Windows 10 regardless of if you buy their own hardware or not. No game released since last year, of for the foreseeable future, will require owning a Xbox.

They are still going to make games like Forza, Halo, Gears, KI, and Sea of Thieves. That's not going to go away, and thus gaming will still be important to them.

I mean if you only look at what negative things have happened under him then yea...it looks bad. But compared to what good he has done, it's a much longer list of positives.

And you could argue his "killing" of games like Fable legends and Scalebound we're due their quailty not being good enough for an exclusive game under the Xbox brand.

Brand loyalty is a hell of a drug

I don't know, I see this as nothing but MS realising that the head of their gaming division––the second biggest gaming division in the world––isn't represented in its 16 member senior team. I.e. the more he's not represented, the more the optics become that they still don't have much faith in their Xbox division.

Cool on him, I know that Phil gets a lot of flack here, but honestly, he really received a sinking ship thanks to all the bad decisions from Ballmer/Mattrick

congrats to Phil, well earned.

And this shows MS is very invested in gaming still, and Phil might have more power in MS to allocate resources to fund more new games/1st party studios.

Forgive the lack of enthusiasm. Nothing personal against him, just not that impressed with his reign, I didn't renew my Live sub this August for the first time in nearly eleven years, no games bought either. They don't do much for me anymore, can't even follow their official twitter , the constant new controller talk got jarring to me.

I think Microsoft sees gaming as a really important avenue. The only major shakeup I could honestly see long-term is them revamping the branding, calling it "Windows Gaming" or something. Right now Xbox is a strong brand purely for gaming, but with time I think rather than having to say that "Xbox is on Windows" they want to make gaming such an integral part of the Windows core experience that "Windows" is in the name, and that their home consoles are merely hardware to extend Windows Gaming to the living room.

I mean, if they do decide to get out of the hardware business that doesn't mean they are out of the gaming business.

Windows store is far from being anywhere big enough to pick up the slack from xbox though...

It might eventually be their future (though the importance of having a dedicated hardware that is forever tied to it increases a lot when said store is very successful), but definitely not short or midterm.

What? Lol

True, but they aren't anytime soon at least. People thought so after xbox one exclusives came on pc, especially after the rumors. Then we got word of Scorpio, they added xbox to their premium hardware, and they're working on a new console.

Of course they do, lol. This is the first year that the first party line up looks lacklustre and a little threadbare, but this is something that all Publishers go through.

Has EA, Sony, Acti, Nintendo etc knocked it out the park every year of this gen? No, no they haven't but we don't crucify them as we know the games are coming, same with Microsoft, 2018 looks like a fucking belter!

I doubt MS is going to drop a console that already works for a store that is disliked, it just won't make any sense. If anything is going, it will be the windows side of XBOX.

What? Lol

Don't worry, I was just joking around. :D
