Android |OT8| ConFuchsia say beta is better

I'm reading how people are upset over the Bixby button the S8.

is there really not a 3rd party app that can reassign the button?

I've been using Bixby Remapper, it seems ok. Its not perfect in that it doesn't stop Bixby launching, but kills the app immediately after launch. It then launches your chosen app instead. When you push the Bixby button sometimes there is a pause, sometimes you see the bubbles for a second, sometimes it just works perfectly.

I haven't noticed a performance hit or battery drain since installing.

I use it to launch Google Now, but you can set it to launch the camera or other apps.

Oh, no root required either.

people literally don't want to update their phones.

how many times have you seen someone months behind just ignoring or delaying the update notificaiion?

That's my wife, for sure. Her iPhone always has OS and app update badges onscreen, but she couldn't care less.

I'm the complete opposite about updates, thus my Pixel XL.

The Verge gave the iPhone 8 in their review an 8. Is that their lowest score for an iPhone yet?

Hard to say. We might get news at the Pixel event.

On a side note shit like this is harder to parce in Google land. Google always does I/O earlier than Apple WWDC, and then they go later than the iPhone event.

Couple that with Apple a lot of times having an event in March/April you're much more in the know with Apple.

Google tends to be on radio silent for a lot of the year at least as far as Android is concerned.

Edit: It does feel like Google doesn't give a fuck considering they haven't pushed any updates to it since 2.0.

The lack of updates bothers me and gives it a "dead platform" vibe, which is a shame. I understand tech companies dropping the market, but after checking out the other watches, they still look worse than the Moto 360 to me. Like the lug ends, which look way too bulky for me. It definitely feels like there's nothing happening on that front anymore. At the same time I still don't know what a good use case would be, other than notifications and fitness tracking.

Basically, it's been 3 years and I still want a smart watch, still don't know why and neither Google nor the manufacturers are making a good case for it. With the Apple Watch, at least their fitness stuff seems really solid, while I wouldn't trust the heart rate monitor in any other Android watch to be as good, for example. #BrandPerception

Wow, Fedex decided to do nothing for over 24 hours it looked like and it just showed up at my local site. And then it literally went on the truck 3 minutes later. I think I missed something. But happy as fuck that it's being delivered today (my new Pixel XL 128GB).

After checking out the Apple Watch 3, how dead is Android Wear? Has Google officially abandoned it?

Hard to say. We might get news at the Pixel event.

Bullshit/FUD/I don't even get what your angle is ...

Wear 2.0 only came out 6 months ago, don't know what updates you're waiting on. Apple Watch OS3/Apple Watch Series 3 is only just catching up to what Wear 2.0 offers (and I'm waiting for reviews first before even declaring that Apple watch has feature parity). If the Moto 360 is your standard for good looking Wear watches then you're more than a year out of the loop. Google's main mistake is that there's no 'pixel' Wear watch (both a round and square option please) to serve as a default choice otherwise there are many options.

I'm really considering getting a One Plus 5 and calling it a day. It's cheaper and has top specs. Battery probably lasts a good while, must def last longer than my two year old + Nexus 6. Is there anything I should be worried about if I do decide to go that route?

In iOS Spotlight, I can search for content within apps, like a sentence in an e-mail and it is amazing. It's perhaps the single best thing about iOS.

As far as I can find, Android does have something similar, but it seems way more restricted than Spotlight. I can't do the same scenario as above in the Google field, which bums me out.

(While we are on the topic, Windows 10 Search doesn't even let me search for contacts. What in the actual fuck? How can they be so bad?)

Anyone here with a snapdragon 625 device, I'm thinking of picking up a Moto z play on sale and was wondering what performance would be like. Might also pick up a Lenovo 8 plus tablet.

Stock s8+ can't make calls just emergency one.

Today i went on business trip and while on plane i put airplane mode on. Upon landing i couldn't connect to network anymore, it gives me 2 errors depending if i manually select network or try automatically, those 2 are Unable to connect. Try later and Error while searching for network.

I reset network settings, restarted phone, reset it, tried different sim in my phone and it didnt work either, mine did in other phone. I dont known what to do besides wait to go home and give it to service since its under wattany... any ideas please?

Google is way behind in fitness for Wear. Basically the main thing I want in a watch. I'm not satisfied with Google Fit on my HW at all. Fit has zero new features, only cosmetic updates since I got the watch 2 years ago

Go to your carrier store and ask for help?

This thing better have no compromises (no, I don't consider lack of headphone jack a compromise, though I understand it would be for some).

Did anyone expect it be lower priced? $849 is what I expected from day 1. They aren't doing cheaper phones when Verizon is carrying them. OnePlus stays winning.

Bug fixes and security updates?

I'm not asking for Android Wear 3.0. I'm asking for Android Wear 2.0.1.

Edit: It's bullshit that people try and peddle it off like this ok. The shit is still on the April security update FFS.

Those Pixel 2 prices....nah, I'm good.

They wouldn't be that bad if they were ahead of the curve.

Instead the Pixel is the last phone of the year/ this cycle instead of being like Samsung which is always the first major phone of the year/cycle.

If this was a 845 phone with crazy new features not already on the market the high entry price would be easier to swallow.

Now your left wondering why you don't just get any of the myriad of other options that are either cheaper or else even if you paid similar pricing you've had your phone for 6 months of use already.

Aiii

So not worth it
Phone prices are just too ridiculous now, this is the first year in a long time I am deciding against upgrading my phone.

I love a gadget as much as the next guy, and I am certainly not a poor guy, but this shit is getting out of hand. Greedy bastards overreached, I hope it shows in sales and as a result, income.

Those Pixel 2 XL proportions look quite bad...

Nothing is right. The cut is through a weird part, not a third or half the way. The camera and fingerprint sensor are not the same distance from the cut either.

Hope it's just a bad render. The smaller one is a little bit better, but still kinda awkward.

Yep. I'd agree with this unless you want the LG audio.

The bigger thing is you could get a G6, S8+, U11, OP5 ECT... for cheaper at this point with similar specs.

Yep, especially if you want stock Android and are a student you can get a brand new OnePlus 5 64gb model for $430. It's basically a nexus phone. I don't even feel the need to switch from oxygen os, since it's basically stock with some nice changes like dark theme.

Man this sucks. I just want a phone with timely updates and an easily unlockable bootloader for when official support ends. I was set on the XL2, but no headphone jack and probably still Verizon exclusive. If the 1+5 had a QHD screen and water resistance, it'd be my next phone.

It does have water resistance. They just didn't pay for the certification. No 1440p screen sucks though. Still hoping for a 5T with one.
