Yeah, I'm not trying to say I can't see how some or many would interpret it that way, was just giving how It came across to me. The way you saw/interpreted it is perfectly understandable.

For the record, I don't think SP is perfect. I do think they step on toes or just flat out smash the feet of certain topics... if that makes sense. (The trailer while mostly tame in my head does step out of acceptable territory due to the depiction of his Mother).

Basically, I'm a casual SP fan, and yes, I do think they make some big mistakes sometimes.

Fair, I guess, but it's still such a weird thing to keep in the game (and then advertise) given that it's completely harmless to begin with and then never really went anywhere anyway.

Making fun of the Kanye game is fine. Using the "Gay fish" thing to make it clear it's a Kanye stand-in is fine. (It's a callback, not a joke about Kanye being a closeted gay guy.)

But that Momfish design definitely isn't cool. It's not in there to make a point, it's just passively there and I hope they axe it.

Yeah, I went back and watched the E3 trailer from this year, and this still looks like a funny game.

Why they would promote it with a trailer that uses the least funny part of a very old callback combined with that character design for the mom fish makes me wonder which trailer best
represents the game. The E3 trailer was entertaining, but the game in the Gold trailer is uncomfortable and trying too hard.

This isn't the case of one malicious, or, more generously, oblivious person putting the blackface fish in and thinking it was fine. This is the case of probably dozens of people seeing it and either not seeing the problem or not thinking it was a big enough thing to rethink. Either way it's a systemic issue.

I live in the US and am very aware of the current social climate. I am firmly on the side of the social progressive movement, I am just reluctant to assume the intentions of others and think it is wise to refrain from the immediately indicting somebody or something as racist. If somebody does something out of ignorance that appears racist, then I think the best course of action is education. Starting the conversation with "that is racist" or "your racist" undermines any effort to educate.

With all that said, I am all for making fun of Kayne West (no public figure should be off limits), but it does seem a bit mean and unnecessary to including his dead grandma in a joke just to further make make fun of him.

It did had a lot of press coverage, e3 exclusive trailer etc. It was a big deal.
It kinda is vaporware though, at least according to this Business Insider
