MoviePass (Unlimited Films in Theaters) Drops to $9.95 a Month

Shiiiit. Hopefully they bring back a subscription plan that covers this stuff soon. Most of the local theaters are foreign/arthouse/70mm, and now that I have my card it's looking like MoviePass pretty much only supports current run movies.

well the entire purpose of the app is to collect data on consumer trends. they gain nothing by supporting art house theaters.
with that said, there's a ton of art house in NYC that accept it which is cool

So, any reason why I can't select a movie time on the app and then buy it for the next day at the theater and then go back the next time and get a 2nd ticket to go with my wife? Seems like that should work to me, no?

It's the easy way for people with no morals to scam the system!

The arthouse theaters around me all accept it, and appeared to have their full schedule when I signed up, which is awesome. It's only since my card arrived that I noticed indie films going missing from the app and foreign screenings becoming unsupported.

That said, yeah, I totally accept that it wouldn't make any sense for their business model to allow me to go see random $15 indie films every day. This service only makes sense when restricted to current-run Hollywood releases, and I wouldn't be too surprised or upset to see that become official policy soon.

Got my card last week and this thing is great. Hopefully it stays 10 bucks a month for at least a year. Just saw Wonder Woman before it was pulled. Feels good when you're the only one in the theater.

so how do i activate the card? lol Shows still processing in the app, and it's not even the same card. App shows 8/24 exp date, card has 9/24. Ugh.

Has anyone seen any theater with E-ticketing? None of the theaters within a 25 mile radius support it for me.

I still dont have the card but used Eticket last night at Studio Movie Grill which isnt far from me. It was a breeze process. I just hope this dang card comes soon so i can go to the movie place I prefer.

There are only a couple states with a few e-ticketing theaters. Because those theaters have to have a partnership with MoviePass, which the movie theater chains are totally against.

Because you can't see the same movie twice.

I don't see the big deal or how he's "scamming the system." He's still buying only one ticket per day in this scenario. Seems pretty harmless to me.
Yeah, the real immoral person scamming the system, possibly bringing the whole system down for the rest of us, is the person who is getting a ticket every day for a movie he doesn't watch, just for reward points.

Nah, the people actually scamming the system are the people not buying the movie ticket they selected in the app like that dude who bought the Pokemon movie tickets. Going once a day is a feature of the service. I am allotted one ticket a day, nothing wrong with giving away that ticket to someone else and keeping the benefits of rewards.

no the real scamming people are the ones who order a ticket through the app and then take the card to the mcdonalds next door for lunch instead of watching a movie.

does that even work? haha

Not for long. They see the location that the money was spent at. So it would say McDonalds instead of AMC.

If your goal is to get banned from MoviePass, then yes, it would work excellently.

Damn. I was going to go at lunch to buy tickets for my girlfriend and myself for this evening but I don't think the theater with the open seats at good times has ticket kiosks and I'm guessing they won't let me buy a ticket with a card that doesn't have my name on it.

They still check in this day and age?

Not always, but they do. I even had someone ask for ID for an unsigned card the other day which almost never happens. It's a little more noticeable when someone makes two purchases with two cards I'm sure.

However, if the chains aren't happy with MoviePass and someone comes in with two cards to make purchases that's a perfectly acceptable reason to deny me using it.

My apologies if this has already been asked, but can I use this on fathom events

I plan to see a studio ghibili movie on Sunday at a regal theater

Will that work?

What about other events like boxing that are $20 a ticket?

Probably not, but if it shows up in the app, you're good.

They're specifically excluded but I wouldn't be shocked if Costanza-types made it work

Awwww

I can see why for the sports and what not, but for the special movies like the studio ghibili ones...I don't see why it shouldn't work. Tickets are normally $12.25 (for standard movies) at my local regal theater and at that same theater they are selling the studio ghibili tickets for $12.50...a $0.25 mark up

I would hope movie pass would cover it

I think it's less about saving the 0.25 and more about restricting the total number of films you have access to.

Finally got my card.

A couple days short of a month to get here.

Worked smoothly, even if the app could be a bit wonky at times.

As someone who already likes going to the theater but often would rather search for bargain days, matinees, and discounts to go to most movies I'm not excited enough to see opening weekend, this is great. Not only can I see those movies whenever I want, I can see them as soon as they come out as well. This will definitely change my movie going experience.

Saw a movie yesterday and it happened to be in a dine-in theater. First time I've ever done that because I typically don't want to pay a bit extra for a 2D movie for food service and recliners (typically only 3D/IMAX/etc. can convince me to add more to my ticket), but Moviepass makes me feel like it is worth it even if a movie isn't so great. The experience is still something I enjoy.

I did a workaround that a GAFer taught me here to prepurchase a ticket for the new Pokémon movie which is a fathom event. It covered the whole ticket price.

It's not allowed so I'm never doing it again after that one time. But dang it I'm really happy that I got a ticket.

Going once a day is a feature of the service. Giving your ticket to someone else is against the terms of service, but that has nothing to do with morality, the fact that someone is scamming the system in a way that directly harms it and thus harms all of the people who follow the rules.

And I’m pretty sure there’s at least one person who was buying tickets just for rewards and *never* giving them to anyone else or using them.

I haven't gotten any notifications regarding my card other than the one I got 3 weeks ago that said production's backed up.

I'm trying to see It, Mother!, and Wind River this week and I wanted to use this card. Damn.

Finally got my card. Anyone try combining this with a rewards program like Regal Crown Card?

Yup. It asks you to swipe your regal card when you use the kiosk. Can also just give it to the person working the ticket counter. The moviepass card is just a form of payment so it works.

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
I got my card a couple of weeks ago but have received two emails in the last hour saying "Your card has shipped!" And the app shows it as "processing" again.

What the fuck. I've been busy and was finally going to try using my card for the first time this weekend. Now it probably won't work because of whatever the hell is going on.

Hey I said I was sorry. I really did feel bad after I found out it was illegal. Sorry for not fully knowing how the system worked exactly cause all I got was a card and the app which just showed movies.

Now I didn't get the slip of paper with instructions cause family threw that away.

Hey, I'm not MoviePass, no need to apologize to me. I don't really care what people do/don't do with it.

To be fair, that's not actually against the TOS. Just seems like a waste though.

So jealous. Too bad that something like this doesn't exist in Germany. I go to the movies regularly and have to pay like 15 dollar each time. A movie pass like thing would be a steak for me even for 50 dollars.

This is a cluster f of stuff lol.

So I get a card yesterday. It's not the same card that is mentioned in the app. Now I receive an email saying my card is shipping and should be here within 5 business days lol.

Hi James,

Thanks for subscribing to MoviePass! Your personalized card has been ordered and should arrive in about 5 business days. Once your card arrives, log in to the MoviePass app and activate your card. You‘ll then be ready to check in at the theater and start seeing the movies you want. It’s that simple!

Thank you so much for your patience and support. We can’t wait to go to the movies with you!

Sincerely,

The MoviePass Team
