Locked out of PSN permanently (?) because I used a fake birthday 10 years ago

When I made my PSN account in 2007 I was 16 and I used a fake birthday in case there was any kind of 18+ content restriction. There is no way to modify your date of birth after creating an account and Sony uses it for account verification.

I ran into trouble with this when I moved country this year as my account became under suspicion and they blocked me from spending money with my cards.I wasn't able to get anywhere with customer service since I couldn't verify the DoB associated with the account and they didn't have any other verification method. I've been using vouchers from amazon to buy games since then.

Fast forward to today and I try to login and the system randomly tells me I need to reset my password. Shouldn't be a problem except...when I go to the website I can't proceed without entering my birthday. So now I can no longer access the account I have used for 10 years, with 20+ digital games on PS4 alone, and I'll lose all of my saves including my 300+ hour overwatch account with a shit load of event skins and stuff.

What the fuck Sony, I'm so angry about this right now. Can't call customer support because i'm not in my home country anymore and couldn't post on the forum because I can't log into my account. There is no support email address as far as I can tell.

I've had to do this several times, but you will have to call them.

Also used some other birthday and they have no way of changing it, so whenever I need to reset the password I have to call them and prove that I'm the owner of the account.

If you have a Ubisoft or Origin account using your PSN account you will be able to see the registered birthday from the settings.

did you have 2 step security because its weird that they would ask to change ur password if you had it

Not really. If they see suspicious activity, they will reset your password as 2 step isn't totally secure.

It's better, it's not perfect.

You couldn't use some internet telephony service like Skype to call the support number of your original country? Should be doable without costing an arm and a leg.

Wait really? That could be huge for me. Gonna go give that a try.

Can very much confirm this works. Fucking neat!

I've been forced to call them for half an hour at a time to reset my password for years now - those days are gone!

Thanks Maxspot!

I used to work at PlayStation Support, as long as you're in the same region you can call in to the customer service number for the country you reside in.

To pass security you need to verify 3 things, you online ID, the sign-in ID and DoB. Since you don't know your DoB, you can still pass security with a recent transaction (i.e a recent game you redeemed with a voucher)

This type of case was one of the most common.

PS Support can only assist with accounts from the same region, EMEA, Americas ETC.

You will have to send in some kind of ID to get the account back.

Now, they will not change the DoB on the account since you were under 18 when you created the account, but once you get it back you can change the verification to a secret question instead, so you don't have to type in the DoB that's entered on the account when you want/need to change password.

Hope this helps, good luck!

I have a sort of similar situation in that Yahoo deleted the email accounts I created for my UK and JPN accounts for inactivity, so I have no way of resetting/confirming new passwords I apparently need to log in on PS4 and not just PS3. I'm assuming I can't call Sony customer service since I'm in America.

Is it true an Id change can be pushed on an account where the id has been reported?

Thanks for this, I'll try get a family member in the UK to call for me.

Yes, we used to do this on the regular actually (for people who got banned for an inappropriate Online ID)

The user would have to send in a list of 5 alternative Online IDs they'd like to use, admins would pick one of these (if deemed appropriate, if the suggestions weren't any better the ban wouldn't be removed)

They don't to this anymore tho, at least EMEA support, can't speak for the US support as they have different processes. Late last year EMEA decided to stop doing this, they can still do it, but they won't.

I had several cases this year of people getting banned because of this but their Online ID was completely fine, it fucking sucked not being able to at least help them get a new Online ID.

It does. I had no idea which date I used and I keep forgetting it. Basically if you played FIFA with account you're on the safe side.

I also had a similar issue, I couldn't remember the DoB I used, however their customer service guy (who couldn't tell me what my DoB was) kept giving me hints until I got it right.

But, maybe I was just lucky?

Why the hell did you create a random birthday...

Why not keep your Birthday and just put a year that you would remember easily

So you could be above 18, but the year you just remember

So if your 26 now presuming, sshouldve just 5 years prior to say 2002 or hell 2000 as a simple DOB

Hell all my alt accounts have my birthday and year lol
Easy to get shit done quickly

Didn't you just use your real birth day and month and just increase the year by 2 or 3?

Because children are very, very stupid. Unfortunately, whether we like to admit it or not, we were all idiots at some point.

I hope you can clear this up, OP. If you find that date send it to yourself in an e-mail. That way if you need it again you can have a record of it.

So we're you able to change you or a buddies Ids whenever you wanted or was the system fairly restricted?

I did the same thing, I had a PSP and just wanted to use PSN to download a demo so put in random shit. Didn’t realize any of it would be used for verification/security and be impossible to change.

I always use their livechat and ask them to send me a password reset to my email, which lets you skip the birthdate screen.

Protip: use Edge to type the new password, for some reason the password fields would appear to accept new passwords but never actually apply them under chrome/firefox

Only the top of the top could change Online IDs, we sent in requests to Sony, and they would make the change. The regular level 1 & 2 agents can see everything else on your account, and admin pretty much everything else other than Online ID

There used to be a site where you could enter your PSN name and it would show you your birthday. I don't think it exists anymore, though. I've had the same problem as you when I bought my PSVita, OP.

Check this one, it's a bit simpler. Should work.

I don't know if it's patched but I did this for my alternate PSN account last year.

Holy snap, can confirm that his flippin works. I had the exact same issue and had pretty much just given up on getting my US account back which has a bunch of games and still $30 left on the wallet. Sick of constantly having to change passwords out of nowhere but this actually let me reset without needing to know DoB and now I've got my account back. Thanks so much for the heads up!

I'm gonna use that origin trick to see if I can get my DoB back as well.

Before victim blaming OP for not using his real birthday, remember Sony wouldn't allow sub accounts to become master accounts until 2015.

Also I remember I did that back then for the German store, but I was clever enough to just update my birthdate by 1-2 years with the PS3 release. for my Austria account to get 18+ stuff online. Sony will sort that out though if you have serial numbers and more at hand.

Thanks for the ea origin tip that's great

I also used a fake birthday, not because of age but because I tend not to reveal DOB to sites unless it's important. Every new year I get deluged with forum happy birthday emails.
Signed up to this new thing called psn when it was launched, got a three letter id. Everything id was available. Never realised Sony would hang onto it forever and not reveal it or let you edit it later.

I had the same issue, but somehow managed to guess the date... there were a few dates I used to fake my age when I was younger.

It was a terrible situation until I remembered. I feel for you OP.

I know people who will never use their real birth date for any online signups to begin with. I'm not that paranoid, but one of my sons accounts has an incorrect birth date so that he can play online (only impacts some games however).

Can you not use the support chat?

They forced a password reset on me a little while ago. I was really panicked because it was late at night and I only had error messages when logging in to indicate I wasn't being hacked. I couldn't go through with the reset myself because 1. I apparently didn't use my actual DOB either and 2. My security question was terrible and I could have given a ton of different answers for it.

Used chat the next day and got back into my account without issue. Gonna use the Origin trick to see what the DOB is now, though.

Another way to spoof your bday if you're desperate and have a vita is that if you try logging in to the vita and go to reset your password on the saved account the system gives you an infinite number of tries to sort out the bday. I had to do it early this year when I turned my ps4 on for the first time in like 2 years T.T

Some rude ass people in here. Acting like they'd obey the restrictions as a kid themselves
It's only on the OP for being stupid. It's not on Sony or anyone else. There's many different ways for him to do it like using his birthdate and changing the year.

Yup, same here. It's a hassle but has only happened like, twice. That said, I've moved countries, hope it doesn't happen again...

OP I'm glad you were able to get back into your account, but I'm completely baffled over why you didn't just keep the day and month the same while adding a couple years. That's what I did when I was a kid. At least you're good to go now though
