[US] Mass Effect: Andromeda is $13.25 on Amazon

Didn’t some of the recent patches introduce some new bugs to the pc version of the game? I thought I remembered reading something about that somewhere.

Is the game really that bad?

It's not thaaaat bad, it's just there's much better things you could do with your time in the genre, and especially gaming as a whole right now. It's forgettable and mediocre, but not actively horrifying.

Wish I hadn't bought it for 30 bucks earlier this year when I've barely played it and could've bought it now even cheaper.

I don't know, there aren't any sci-fi RPGs of the same breadth and depth as Mass Effect. It's why I keep returning to Andromeda every now and then; exploring its planets in the Nomad is really fun and there isn't anything like it that I know of.

Shit game, thinking back to the OT is still funny all the people pretending it didn't have issues and was a good game

At $13-14, the PC version is well worth giving a try, especially if you use this mod list:

If you're playing on PC, here's a list of mods I highly recommend:
Free Remnant Decryption Keys (1000x)
Road Rage (increased Nomad collision damage to enemies)
Materials for Sale (all crafting materials can be bought on the Tempest for free)
General Augs Rebalanced (full disclosure: I made this mod - sets a wide variety of augments to give 10% bonuses to weapons/gear)
Weight Cooldown Bonus (brings back ME3's less weight = faster cooldowns mechanic)
Hyper Mobility (better sprint speed, better jump height & distance, might get you stuck on invisible geometry)
Squadmates Damage (buff to squadmate stats so they're less useless)
No Profile Switching Cooldown (switching profiles doesn't cause all abilities to cooldown)
Shut Up SAM (Reduces SAM chatter about environmental hazards)
Cheap Research (Reduces research costs by 75-80%}
Research No Level Requirements (Actually build the highest tier stuff without going into New Game Plus or tons of grinding)
Shorter Landing and Departure Cinematics (Cuts most of these cutscenes down to sub-10 seconds)
Increased Weapon Range
Faster Kadara Doors
Nomad Top Speed Increase (Now it peaks at 200 km/h)
Ultimate Camera FOV mod
DS4 Buttons

Tools you should have:
MEA Recovery Tool (let's you revert changes if modding causes problems)
Frosty Mod Manager (lets you run mods in a nice UI, remember to double click the mods on the list to the left)
MEAExplorer Ansel DLLs (download them & stick them in the MEA game folder so the mods will actually work)

Edit: You don't need the DLLs with Frosty Mod Manager.

Just make sure you don't do any Additional Tasks and stop the planet quests once you hit 100% viability, especially if all that's left if just helping people out. That stuff does have a little pay off at the end, but isn't necessary or particularly rewarding.

Fuck that. Not worth my time downloading all that crap just to make the game more enjoyable.

No. GAF(or the gaming community all over the internet in general) is hyperbole city.

The game is not a masterpiece, it's not as good or memorable as the trilogy, but it's still worth playing it once if you enjoy WRPGs, sci-fi and third person shooters

If that's the case, there's quite a lot to like in this game if you can tolerate it's biggest flaws like the constant need to travel from one planet to another without a quick travel option, or the repetiveness going on after a certain point (find vaults, attack enemy base, get planet viability to 100%, move on to the next) outside of main & loyalty quests.

This about sums it up. I had a lot of fun with single player and the multiplayer co-op mode is also a good time sink with a variety of powers to try out. Lots of negativity in this thread, but it's nothing new here.

I bought this game when it came out (full price) but didn’t play it because Zelda. Finally got around to it this week, I’m about 10-15 hours in. So far I like it a lot! It feels like another Mass Effect game, with the usual upgrade in combat, a really fun vehicle to dick around in, a downgrade in animations unfortunately, and a worse story/world. So far the plot is the biggest disappointment. I don’t find the “explore the new frontier” story anywhere near as gripping as the epic story of the original trilogy. Also the backdrop of a galaxy populated with tons of different and thriving races was awesome, it’s really not the same thing in ME:A. Despite these flaws I’m looking forward to continuing my play through!

My biggest takeaway these past couple of months.

It has some good lighting in in-door environments and some good textures. Combat and driving are pretty entertaining as well.

The writing and narrative are absolute garbage though. They might as well have cut all dialogue and plot from the game, because it's completely worthless, if not infuriating to listen to (especially the pathfinder stuff and the 'jokes'). And then the development troubles show in the technical faults of the game, especially animation, NPCs, asari faces, etc.

Game should've been cancelled two years ago and saved everyone the trouble, especially the poor dev team who crunched for 18 months.

Better off putting that money toward pre-ordering Anthem.

Not interested in Andromeda at all and it saddens me. ME is one of the best trilogies.

Eh, how much free time you want to waste, its a cool game anyway

Put your difficulty on easy so multiplayer enemies deals less damage ( no joke)

I've never played Andromeda, but "A bad game is not worth anything." So if it's as bad as everyone in this thread says then take your $13 and go buy lunch, lol.

Kinda learned that with Shadowfall, didn't even get my 8 bucks worth lol.

Yikes, these comments, I really liked the trilogy and was hoping Andromeda was shallow but at least worth a low price...Looks like naw.

If you really liked the trilogy and want a shallow, soulless half-gen-improved sequel, Andromeda should be right up your alley. Just be aware that the story goes nowhere and the facade of decision making has entirely collapsed.

Don't buy it solely because it's cheap, though. Your time has value.

No thanks, I'm not desperate enough to waste my free time on that hot mess when late September going into October are loaded with actually interesting games.

As someone who loved the original Trilogy, I was disappointed after playing Andromeda and didn't really feel any urge to play it again. There's still some good things in the game, like the combat, but for me at least it was difficult to become invested in the characters or story.

It’ll be in the EA vault soon enough. I’ll wait until then. Still might not play it though. Fucking shame what became of this series.

Geez man, this game really can't catch a break around these parts.

I put over 100 hours and managed to get all 55 achievements. It's a 8/10, just like Inquisition. Definitely not as bad as many of you are making it out to be, especially after the massive patches it received over the past few months.

I say go buy it.

I say they should wait for it to be $5 doorbuster in the many, many November sales that will occur. There are games actually worth saving your time and money for in October.

If it's 13.25 now, it'll be half that in at least three weeks.

They are dumping stock at this point. Be patient!

Maybe if you buy enough at a big box store over the holiday they will just give you a copy of Andromeda as a shopping bag insert so they can finally off-load their inventory.

Cheap garbage is still garbage.

I spent more time playing this shitty game than any person ever should, trying to find some enjoyment in it after having played Mass Effect 3's multiplayer for literally thousands of hours. There's nothing, on either side of the equation. The story is uninteresting, the characters are utterly cringeworthy and the combat is a marked step back from ME3's. Even the co-op community has largely abandoned the game in favour of returning to ME3, because that was simply a better game, with far more variety. In fact, a new unofficial expansion for it has just been released:

Ended up biting the bullet on it because I was bored and found it cheap.

Even after all the patches, it is extremely mediocre. It's decent if you're really hurting for a sci-fi RPG and it's passible with the mods on PC.

Just skip the grindy fetch quest BS
