Nintendo Arcade Archives Series for Nintendo Switch |OT|

Have a strong feeling this entire roster of games will be given away for free via Switch Online sub.

Please don't let this be the new VirtualConsole.

They won't be. These aren't published by Nintendo.

I'm really not interested in paying for any "classic" Nintendo arcade games. I really think Nintendo took off as a game developer after Super Mario Bros.

However, if they wanted to port their more recent arcade games like Mario Kart Arcade GP, F-Zero AX, Luigi's Mansion Arcade or Cruis'n Blast, I'm all over that!

This needs to happen.

For people complaining about the prices:

Every single game in the Hamster Arcade Archives series (PS4/XBoxOne/Switch) costs 6.99 € in Europe/7.99 $ in the US. Doesn't matter if the game is from the 80's or the 90's, the price is always the same.

Why would these games for the Switch be any different?

How r these different from the NES version?

Depends on the game. The arcade version of Mario Bros. is running on hardware more powerful than the Famicom/NES.

A game like Vs. Super Mario Bros. has level design differences compared to the home version. It's a much more challenging game.

Yup. And Punchout is basically a completely different game

Maybe I'll get the Punch-Out games, but the rest do not interest me, especially at $8. They are the same games with minor changes. And don't post that they removed the 1-ups and added a high-score table to Super Mario Bros., these are essentially the same at their core.

Those aren't the only differences. Many of the levels themselves have been altered.

Punch Out and Super Mario Bros are probably worth it but please, please don't buy vanilla Mario Bros.

NES Remix showed me how horrible Mario Bros. can really be and I can't imagine the arcade version is much better

Honestly (excluding Punch Out and VS SMB) these are more niche oddities than interestingly games worth playing in 2017. They should be available for history conservation sake at the symbolic price of $1

Let's see... buying all of these is $80 for 10 games. The NES Classic was $60, had 30 games and included the system to play them on.

I'm super happy that Hamster is out there making classic games available for modern audiences, but this price point is really hard to justify.

Nintendo Arcade Archives Series for Nintendo Switch |OT| Less VC For Your Money Than NBA 2K18

Hopefully you guys can get all of this out of your systems in the thread soon, as I'd like to discuss these releases with the Gaffers that are interested in them when they launch.

Definitely skipping everything but SMB and Punch Out. That price is bullshit. Stop playing and give us a proper VC so I can really dump money on you Nintendo.

I know VS Balloon Fight has different physics from the NES version. VS Excitebike has different courses, and was also backported to FDS and expanded on.

Anyone more knowledgable care to detail all the differences between the various NES and VS games?

Vs Wrecking Crew has a simultaneous 2-player mode.

It's up on the Japanese eShop for 823 yen. Unfortunately, it looks like Amazon JP isn't selling digital eShop cards at the moment.

Why? It was ported to the Wii and included free with the red system for Mario's 25th anniversary. Can be done again.

That wasn't the arcade version. It was the Famicom/NES game with the cement factory stage added and Donkey Kong's "escape" animation with Pauline at the end of stages.

lol $8? Weren't NES games for Wii only $5? Seems a little steep for arcade titles.

*Every* Hamster Arcade Archives release, on *every* platform is $8. And they almost never go on sale. Which is why I don't buy them. If they were half that price I'd probably own 10 of them by now.

I may have to make an exception for Vs. SMB when I do eventually get a Switch.

Ok, they are bigger than I thought. But still, surely Nintendo could at least try and buy out the rest of the rights. Surely after this much time it'd be doable.
It's possible an arrangement could be made I hope for DK and DKJr. And maybe also other older titles like Sky Skipper.

Sega was able to rerelease the emulated arcade version of Congo Bongo several times in collections and Ikegami also programmed that.

I played VS SMB once in my life. Didn't know the thing existed before I saw it and never saw it again. Yeah I remember it being very hard and my game ending quickly.

Will be interested to see it again on Switch.

Also Super Mario Bros was/is my favorite game of all time.

Definitely in for Punch-Out.

I played the crap out of Mario Bros. at a local community center in the mid-'80s, but after getting the game a million times with the GBA SMB releases, I don't think I can take any more of that game. :)

In for VS SMB and Punch-out!! Arcade SMB level 6-3 feels so fucking flimsy. Ugh, it's the only level that makes me nervous still but I love it all the same. Punch-Out!! controls so much better on the NES but I have a soft spot for the arcade version so the novelty alone is worth it. I assume they're going to stick with the 2 screen setup which will make for a weird aspect ratio. Will they have cabinet art or something on the sides of the screen or just vertical black bars?
