I agree with that. I'm glad this seems to be an amazing film. When I heard Denis and Deakins teamed up for it, I had faith it would at least be visually arresting but I'm glad they managed to pull off everything else.

It's not likely for either BR or Dunkirk to win Best Picture or Director, but Nolan probably has the better shot with Director than Villenueve does.

I was in peace with that quote.

I'll go drop money at the cinema despite my skepticism just for that quote. Oh yeah, and the insanely good reviews.

Trying to keep the hype in check since this all sounds almost too good to be true but man, it'd be amazing if it turns out to be that nice.

LOL At these Nolan super fans. It harkens back to the IMDB days when Nolan fans review bombed the Godfather so that Dark Knight would claim the #1 spot on the all-time list. I like Nolan quite a lot but let's not be ridiculous.

I think Denis is the kind of film maker who doesn't give a shit. He just makes the movies he wants to make, he doesn't go to studios and pitch a movie from a business perspective unlike Nolan does. I get the feeling Nolan wants to please his investors, and simultaneously wants to get artistic praise. After a few successful projects Nolan felt dat thirst for artistic recognition, so he made Dunkirk, ticking all the boxes,in his mind. The crazy thing is that 2049 will potentially have much larger artistic ramifications.

It has less to do with quality and more to do with the individual’s opinion of the original. Blade Runner is a classic, but it’s not universally loved like a Jaws or Alien

I also think that, thinking film can never match or top the classics of the past is a pretty depressing view of the medium.

It's more about some of these professionals calling it a masterpiece and an instant classic after a single viewing (and then they award it 3/4...mmk). Those are the ones I'm absolutely going to cast doubt on. Especially when one of this reviews describes something like the soundtrack as oppressive and percussive and in the very same sentence they say it's faithful to Vangelis. What are you even taking about. How am I supposed to take that guy seriously for instance?

Clearly BR2049 turned out good, great even! Denis for sure didn't shit the bed, and that's enough of a win for me. But I'm gonna take a pass for the time being on the more ridiculous superlatives.

Final Cut blu-ray, I think most would agree.

I'm yet to be as blown over by a Villeneuve movie as many others, and I doubt this will break the streak, but I'm glad that it's likely a lot better than the trailers made me fear.
