I never even got through more than a couple seasons and the vitriol made me feel uncomfortable.
Considering the last episode of Rick and Morty had the undertone "Being smart is the worst" you can see how that can appeal to people being led into "OMG I'm smart and I hate bits of my life this speaks to me so hard". Not that I don't enjoy those themes and how they're explored in the show but yeah, the Cake is a Lie comic feels accurate once again. Even if I'm shit at vocalising what that actually means.

The South Park fans are bad, but the Souls fans will always be the absolute bottom of the barrel imo.
That meme at least had the benefit of popularizing shawarma, which is great.

For me, it is notable as having the worst subreddit I've ever visited. The only good post is the weekly episode recap.
All sorts of video game ones, tech ones, etc...all fine. But the R&M subreddit is just nothing but memes and copypasta. Just awful.
(Big fan of the show, latecomer, just started it earlier this year).

Where are all these annoying R+M fans? I've never met anyone who had a false sense of superiority because they watch R+M.. is that a thing?
This seems to me like a more universal phenomenon; people are more-often-than-not ingrained in their own identities, so when part of your identity is R+M, you play it up to be more than it is cause it makes you feel better about yourself.

My boring white suburban self took a risk on trying it about 15 years ago, choosing it over my usual 2am Friday night out pizza slice, and it was one of the greatest things I'd ever tasted.
It's almost as if building your identity around pop culture leaves an empty shell of a person.

It's strange that we don't see the same character idol worship with AD that we've seen for so many other shows...probably because the characters as so blatantly narcissistic and idiotic.

there's obviously the porn aspect, which every fandom has, but then you have this youtube community thing going apeshit, with uploads happening almost hourly it seems
i never watched any of it, its all weird things like fan dubs and comics/animations/songs and the like, but they get thousands, to hundreds of thousands, to over a million views fairly quickly, so a lot of people must be consuming this stuff every week
reminds me a lot of the early MLP days, but cranked up to eleven
