STEAM | September 2017 - Summer Ys Ending

Don't know if it's been posted, but that publisher that got almost 200 products removed from Steam released a statement. I gotta say they're trying to be a bit too ignorant of what they were actually doing here.

For example, creating more developer names even though they were on the same account and listed under the same publisher. This was done primarily for easier statistical tracking as we did not believe it to be a problem since all the games were publicly listed under the same publisher and there was no deception included.

That seems pretty shady. Their explanation does not fit either.

Moreover, all the games on the Silicon Echo account have had the same customer support email precisely for people not to be deceived.

First thing I do before buying a game is checking the customer support email.

...

All in all it's not the worst response they could have made. They barely address the issue itself of course, but that is probably just good PR to distract from the issue. Good on valve for getting rid of that shit though tbh.

Killer Instinct doesn't look too good after 2 days. Too early for SteamSpy numbers, but it's not even in top 20 global top sellers any more, and daily player count is in 300-500 range.

Fighting games don't sell on Steam = confirmed.

But I was told $30 on "sale" was a great price for all the content of three "seasons" looooool

I mean come on, anyone could have seen KI flopping on Steam. So many games to pick from, most of them being cheaper than a Xbox One launch game. One that didn't have the best reception to begin with.

I could be a problem of the extreme difficulty level. If even veteran gamers with decade long experience have issues with the second jump in the game, well, that turns people off.

I really hate that period where you go from being excellent at the game you've just finished to being a total incompetent in the new game you've just started playing...it makes me feel like I should never start new games for fear of self esteem injury.

Huh, very weird. There are no Japanese names in the credits.

Yeah, I'd guess Takarajimasha didn't have any actual input on development and instead just completed whatever work Monolith outsourced. It's common these days for helper studios to be properly credited, but that probably wasn't the case 20 years ago.

It was a great price and i don't think it sold that bad considering it's a 4 year old game. What did you guys expect?

Some of you have weird sale expectations from certain games.

Cuphead any good? Seems like my kinda game

It's great!

The Steam equivalent of the drunk friend who keeps offering to pay your tab all night.

you need to learn to use quotations, you cant use them when its facts.

its a fact that its on sale (25% off the regular $40, which is also what it costs in the MS Store), and its a fact that it's 3 seasons worth of content. Those are facts.

Killer Instinct is a 4 year old fighting game made by western developers and published by Microsoft. If more than 10 concurrent players it's doing ok.

It said I needed to make an account, when I made an account, I didn't know where to put the code and purchased it by mistake. Well, nvm, thanks anyway, really appreciate it!

Just to make it simple for you for the future
1- Create a CDKeys account
2- Go to facebook link and get the 5% discount code
3- Put items in cart then apply the code at checkout
4- Note that the code can only be used a set number of times only, afterwards, your account can't apply it. When this happens, just create a new CDKeys account to use the code again.

Couldn't find the place to apply the code after I've created my account, it was there when I wasn't logged in, I'll try to ask for a refund tomorrow and do it tomorrow.

Thanks!

Are the versions of STALKER on STEAM playable without mods?

The only one where I would say it's required is Clear Sky, because the faction war AI likes to not work at all. Look for Sky Reclamation Project (SRP), since it's purely a bugfix mod (by default - it has come optional changes). It didn't even let me out of the first area in vanilla, because you had to conquer it to leave.
You might want to use Zone Reclamation Project for Shadow Of Chernobyl just to be safe, but I beat it fully vanilla without anything major, save for one crash. I don't remember if there was one for Call Of Pripyat, but it's considered the most polished out of the three.

If I would have to sum up my current feelings with one gif, it would be this one:

So yes, I have completed Ys Seven.

I'm not quite sure yet where I would place it in my personal Ys rankings, but probably not above Origins and Felghana.
There are a few things I didn't quite like all that much, but it's a very good game regardless.

I actually enjoyed the story a lot. It's no ground-breaking epic, but it does it's job, is very well executed with some very high highs (no doubt in part because it is supported by the stellar soundtrack) and has a cast of likeable characters.

Gameplay is very different from the previous 3D Ys. You now have a party of 3 and more expanded RPG systems. There is equipment and item crafting as well as skill learning and leveling. Very cool at first but it got a bit tiring at the end, especially since there are soo many skills, they are tied to weapons (use the skill to master it and then you can use it without the weapon, like in Xanadu Next) and money is tight.
Felt a bit like padding, I would have preferred less but more meaningful skills like in previous games.

The addition of Flash Guarding and dodge rolls makes combat faster and also more mashy. It's a ton of fun still, especially against bosses, which are again the highlight of the game. And the final boss delivered.

I wasn't a big fan of the increase in NPCs and NPC dialog. Made me dread reaching a new town after the halfway point. Yeah, you can just ignore them but Trails games have me conditioned to talk to every NPC twice after a story step. Dammit Falcom.

Also the soundtrack is amazing
Example.

No prob just make sure you are always logged in if u wanna use their code.
Furthermore, if you attempt to buy using Paypal, it seems to not use the 5% discount for some reason.

Played an hour or so of Rime with the Steam Controller. Game is neat and while I probably need some more time getting used to the Steam Controller the back pedals are a godsend. So nice to do actions with the fingers which are just sitting there useless on other controllers.

Just two questions:

  1. What is the best setting for the right track pad? Doesn't feel right yet because I need to make too much movement with my thumb to move the camera.
  2. What is the easiest way to set up a Screenshot button?

I haven't played Rime but in my experience most games use a default setting of mouse for the right trackpad. Not sure why because it's just awful for camera control in third-person games. I always rebind it to Joystick Camera, which behaves how you would normally expect (i.e. holding your thumb at the edge of the pad will rotate the camera).

Best setting is something you'll have to figure out for yourself. I like default Mouse for most games, and I usually tune down the acceleration in the advanced settings. I like combining it with gyro set to default as well (it's the icon under the picture of the controller). If a game doesn't let me use mouse + gamepad, I will either go full kb/m, or I'll use Mouse-Like Joystick and jack up the sensitivity in game.

Screenshot is currently set to Guide Button + RB (I think). That can be used in any game.

I haven't played Rime yet, but it has been my experience that "mouse-like joystick" is the best solution for 3D camera controls. Typically with low friction on the trackball. That mode and that setting makes it easy to do both fine-grained movement and broad movements.

What even is a season. A couple characters/clones and stages? Season is marketing jargen. It makes sense in Path of Exile or Diablo but not really for fighting game DLC.

But anyway Xbone Elite or mouse all the way. Steam Controller is a poor substitute for either one.

Tried the suggestions and maybe the Steam Controller isn't the right thing for Rime.

But damn if it isn't a very screenshotable game.

You've actually made me curious about Dino Crisis. Should I start with the first game or with one of the later entries in the series?

Definitely start with the first. However if you don’t like it move onto 2. They’re both practically stand alone. DC1 is survival horror while DC2 is straight action.

After that don’t bother with the rest. Maybe take a look at Dino Stalker if you’re REALLY curious but stop there for sure.

Thanks for the advice.
They don't seem to be terrible long according to HLTB, so I think I'll give it a go once I'm through Danganronpa 3.

Unless I'm mistaken that Humble monthly deal with Rise of the Tomb Raider for £8 is pretty great right? Think that's the cheapest I've seen it. I've snaffled it anyways, any other good games are a bonus.

Ya, the Monthly deals are pretty great if you want the highlight game.
