Three in October - Super Mario Backlogyssey

Do you nearly finish games, but then stop for no reason? Are there games you mean to play but don't get around to?

The challenge is to complete three (or more) games this month.

It doesn't matter how long or short the games are, or if you're near the end already. If it's unclear if something counts as a finished game, you should go with your own judgment. There aren't any hard rules.

Please post the games you hope to finish, but also share your successes, setbacks and impressions. :)

I finished:
Golf Story: Finished on the 11th. It will probably be on my top 10 list of games of the year, for the wonderful little world within and the challenge it provides. The ending unexpectedly made me feel something like patriotic, a thing I don't really feel.
My Nintendo Picross: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess: Finished on the 19th. I decided to finish this before playing a lot of Picross S for the Switch, since it has a lot fewer puzzles.

I'll try for:
Mario + Rabbids: I'm up to 4-3 which I have some trouble with, The movement around battles feels great and the simplicity of abilities works in its favour. I also like that there is gameplay outside of battles, which is rare in my experience of SRPGs.
Final Fantasy VI: On the SNES Classic Mini. Years ago, I got to the end dungeon on the very buggy (it would often freeze on me) PS1 version and just stopped. On this version I have the airship in the WoR.
Yakuza Kiwami: I'm only up to chapter 4, focusing on other games at the moment but that will change later in the month.

Yeah, I'll try this thread. My backlog is ridiculous.

Want to Finish in October
Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions
Super Metroid
Pokemon Gold

I should really stop replaying games and actually tackle new ones.

I have FIFA 18 on the side as well, but I need these three done before Super Mario Odyssey comes out.

My current slate is

FF12 Zodiac Age-The fast forward is awesome. Im motoring through it. Never finished it back in the day so excited to actually see the end this time.
Donganronpa V3 and Dark Cloud-barely started either yet.

And ive pretty much dropped the latest Mario rpg,,,paper jam bros or something. Its just so so dull The mario rpgs have been on autopilot for years imo,

Might pick up the new Metroid as well, not sure.

October Finish List
Batman Telltale Series Season 1
Night in The Woods
Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Have been sitting uncompleted for a long time, really want to finish those.

Everybody's Golf (Vita) - Been trying to finish this since it was released, but the later levels are just too damn hard.

Super Mario 3D World - I'm not really enjoying this, mostly because I find 3D platformers difficult to control. I know I'm supposed to 'git gud' but 2D Mario is just more fun for me. On World 3 at the moment, i'll finish the game as long as it doesn't become too difficult.

Either Persona 4 Golden or Zelda:BOTW (Wii U) - Depending on which one of the above I finish first. Didn't have the time to play Zelda at release because of Nioh though I did play a little and really enjoyed it. Persona 4 I can't get into, the dungeon layout is really boring but the combat is pretty fun.

Even though I did finish 3 off my list last month, Destiny 2 kept me from a couple more.

List of games I've started but not completed:
Metro 2033 About halfway through I think. I really enjoyed this game initially but the last chapter or so caused me to lose interest and if I'm in a mood for a FPS I just go back to D2. (Yes I realize this has a stealth focus)

Metroid Zero Mission just defeated Ridley

World of Final Fantasy enjoying this game a lot when I play it, up to Chapter 13

Bioshock Remastered (PS4) - I'm about 60-70% into this, I think.

The Last of Us Remastered - Going to do a 1800/60fps run, first time with the single player on a 4k TV.

Something short that will take a couple of sessions to play, haven't decided yet. It will probably be a SNES Classic game, like Super Mario World or Star Fox 2. I haven't received the console yet though.

I started Zelda: Breath of the Wild last week, but it's way too early and I'm sure I'll be playing it through November. I was looking to do a RE7 collectible or 4 hour run around Halloween, but that will probably spill over into November.

My goals for October:

  • Golf Story
  • Yakuza 4
  • Rime
  • Danganronpa: Happy Trigger Havoc

Should be doable. 6 hours into Golf Story and starting part 3 in Yakuza 4. Rime seems like a good weekend game.

I just started Xenoblade Chronicles and Divinity Original Sin 2, and the next on my list is BG2. Oh and I have a newborn baby.

I have no chance... End of the year might be a stretch :D

My goals would be:
- FF XII: TZA: About 10 hours into it, never finished it back in the day. This version seems a bit easier and the fast forward feature is really helpful.

- Yooka-Laylee: Haven't started it yet, I was waiting for the camera patch on PS4. I really want to finish this before starting Super Mario Odyssey, because I'm afraid this would seem really unpolished after Odyssey.

-Uncharted: Lost Legacy: This should be pretty short and sweet.

- Metroid: SR: About to finish I got the
Baby Metroid
yesterday. Going for 100%, I'm above 90% in every area.

Edit: Forgot I finished Ori as well.

I finished 4 games in September:
Suikoden 2 - Replayed on vita. The end boss has this bug that'd freeze the game if you take too long to kill it. That was so annoying.
Gravity rush 2 (platinum + DLC)- I enjoyed this so much. Still going back to get all the online stuffs. Should be done by tomorrow.
Hatoful Boyfriend (Finished all routes, just the BBL left to go)- I don't like birds and I don't like gimmicky dating sim, but I really liked this. The characters feel genuinely likeable.
Ori and the Blind forest - The control is infuriating! I got so pissed at the
inverted control
part. Music was nice though.

Couldn't finish Tyranny in time. It feels like a game made for me, but something about it just doesn't click.

At the minimum, I'm looking forward to finish these in October:
-Higurashi Chapter 1 VN: On chapter 4 now. This is... Really... Slow...
-Highway Blossom VN
-Undertale
-Remember Me

Goals.

Golf Story
Mass Effect Andromeda
Watch Dogs 2

I'm actually pretty proud of my september. Played/bought and beat a bunch of games while not really adding much to my backlog (apart from Mass Effect and Watchdogs which i bought at the end of the month)

Games beat in September

Yakuza Kiwami
Destiny
Uncharted:Lost Legacy
Shante half genie half hero
Oceanhorn

Update

Finally got around to beating ARMS to a level i am happy with. I will pop back in from time to time but i feel like i have beaten most of the content i will be able to beat

Mass Effect Andromeda is a game i am solidly into but can't bring myself to push through.

Golf Story is on pause until it gets patched, and Watch Dogs 2 has been moved firmly into my backlog

Then i have bought 2 more games this month The Last Story (Wii) for when i get a new PC and Megaton Rainfall which isn't out yet.

For this month:

Crash Bandicoot: Warped
The N. Sane Trilogy Version. I just beat it an hour ago, so two more to go.

Typoman
I've had it on my Wii U for a long while, but never played it. I just began it yesterday, but the game is reportedly quite short, so it should be over quickly.

Blaster Master Zero
I began this today, and played through the first stage. I have not played Blaster Master back in the day, so I probably won't get all the nostalgia this was made for. Hopefully the game is good. I hear this, too, was quite short game, so I should have no problem finishing it this month.

I probably will tackle more short indiegames this month while waiting for Fire Emblem Warriors and Super Mario Odyssey release. I'll also play Pokemon Gold on 3DS, but might not finish it this month, due to the game being huge.

Birthday this month, currently blazing through FFIX so should be doable and then on to cup head.
I could go back to bioshock 2 and finish that but may concentrate on South Park when it comes out.

Wolfenstein will be a goal for November I think.

Currently playing Nier: Automata. Finishing it is my main focus right now, then I will finally complete Gravity Rush 2.

Completed in September
Destiny 2 - v good
Walking Dead Season 2 - dragged a lot around the middle but there definitely a touching payoff at the end
Little Nightmares - the lesser cousin of Inside to me. Lacked the overall resonating gloom and hopelessness coupled with clever light puzzling that Inside nailed for me.

Three targeted for October
Uncharted Lost Legacy
Cuphead
Dishonored Death of the Outsider

I’d like to include some of the behemoths at the end of the month but that makes for a very messy November

I always post in these threads and then forget to post any progress. In any case, my schedule for this month will be to beat:

Paper Mario Color Splash - Wii U
Splatoon 2 - Switch
Last of Us Remastered - PS4

Goals : Breath of the Wild - Bloodborne - Wolfenstein 2

What will most likely happen : Evil Within 2 - Wolfenstein 2 - Breath of the Wild

Ys Origin (PS4) - Currently playing. About to finish 2nd character so 1 playthrough to go.
Danganronpa V3 (PSV) - Super keen to jump into this, next main game after Ys Origin.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (NS) - Playing this on the side, finished all 150CC cups, so have Mirror and 200CC to go.

Bonus:
Ys: The Ark of Napishtim (PS2) - Next game to play in the Ys series. If I beat the above before Odyssey comes out I'll smash this one out seeing it seems to be a quick 10-15 hour game.

Time to give this another shot and see if I can beat more than one this time!

Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony (PS4): The last stop of the Danganronpa train I've been on. Currently at the start of Chapter 2.

Nier: Automata (PS4): Going to attempt to pick this up again after failing to touch it all last month.

2064: Read Only Memories (PS4): Only played maybe half an hour, but I already love the setting and aesthetic of the game. Really interesting and not something I don't think I've really seen before.

Hopefully I can get these three done before I decide to buy any of the big games coming out this month (looking at you, Odyssey.)

Yakuza 4 - with kiwami out of the way I need to make more progress to catch up for 6!

Dishonored 2 - shelved it due to the pc version being rather bad at launch. Need to finish it to play the new expansion.

Hollow knight - put it off for metroid sr, need to get back to it

Planning on finishing at least:

RUINER

Shadow of the Beast

STASIS

Hopefully either Ratchet & Clank, or Matterfall as well.

Let's see.....

- Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana; about halfway through, should finish it by the next weekend
- Dragon's Dogma, very excited about th is one
- Maybe digging one of my PS3 backlog. Either Drakengard 3 or Folklore

Hmmm. I want to see if i can knock out the following:

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare (PS3). Meant to beat this last month but got sidetracked and didn't wind up touching it. It shouldn't be a long time before I'm able to beat it.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (3DS). I just finished the second last case yesterday so only have one left. This game is so much fun, though - it's definitely exceeding my expectations.
Uncharted 4 (PS4). As with the other games this month, I'm part of the way through, so putting in the time should see me through.

Not sure what my stretch goal this month is, but I want to make some progress in Final Fantasy X (PS3) - been wanting to play (and beat) that for a while but haven't really been getting around to it. It's also important to beat because it came recommended by a friend and also it'll be my first Final Fantasy game. Plus if I do beat it and enjoy it I can jump into the sequel which is on the same disc.

Final Fantasy 9: Should be done with it either today or tomorrow.

Dragons Dogma: Missed out on it last gen so excited to jump in on Tuesday.

Wolfenstein 2: The game I'm most excited for that's coming out this month. Will probably finish it same week(end) it releases.

In the maybe pile will be Hidden Agenda depending on reviews/impressions.

Thanks for the thread Aarglefarg.

My target

Prey - half done
Zelda Breath of the Wild - just gotta finish it
Resident Evil HD

This month its a race to finish some games before odyssey. I finished kingdom battle, now im on to my snes classic
Games and this month alone id like to beat super mario world, yoshis island, and final fantasy 6. Next months goals are super mario odyssey, super mario rpg, and assassins
Creed origins.

It would be dumb of me not to finish Mario + Rabbids before Odyssey comes out so that'll be my one job. Starting World 3.

I finished Prey (PS4) and Steamworld Dig 2 (Switch) in September. I'm currently playing Hob (PS4) and will probably start Golf Story (Switch) after I finish it. The one game I definitely want to finish by end of the year is Horizon. It's still in the shrink wrap. I'm not sure If I want to squeeze it in before Mario or wait till after. Depending on how Black Friday goes, Mario Odyssey could be one of my last purchases of the year, which would give me some time to catch up a bit.

I also have Persona 5 and Ni-Oh in unopened but I don't know if I feel like committing to them in 2017. Doom, TitanFall 2, and Dishonored 2 are my 2016 backlog games but I'm not sure when, if ever, I'll get to them, simply because I'm not a huge FPS fan.

Yakuza Kiwami (PS4)
Prey (PS4)
Mario + Rabbids (NS)

Are my 3 I plan to finish. Almost done with Kiwami so should be possible and I plan to start Zelda at some point this month though might wait until after Mario Odyssey.

I tried this in July and failed miserably thanks to Rocket League, but I want to try again.

This month I'll try to complete some Switch games before Odyssey comes out:

-Golf Story Done! 10/13 What a great game. Took about 22 hours to 100%
-Graceful Explosion Machine (B rank or greater on all levels) Done! 10/2
-The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (all shrines, all sidequests, defeat Ganon)

Completed two games and an expansion in September. I didn't include the expansion in my completion percentages.

OVERALL 2017: 21/27 (77%)
SEPTEMBER 2017: 2/3 (67%)

1 - Knack 2 / PlayStation 4 Pro
2 - Ruiner / PlayStation 4 Pro
3 - Sniper Ghost Warrior 3: The Sabotage / PlayStation 4 Pro

OCTOBER 2017

1 - I Am Setsuna / PlayStation 4 Pro
Currently halfway through the game and hoping to finish it by the time game number two is released.

2 - The Evil Within 2 / PlayStation 4 Pro
Can't wait for this sequel. Easily the best survival horror franchise since RE4. Expecting around the 9/10 mark and complete demolishment of REVII.

3 - Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus or Call of Duty: WWII / PlayStation 4 Pro
This will depend on how long it takes me fully complete The Evil Within 2. If I complete it before Wolfenstein 2, then the next game will be Wolfenstein 2. If I complete The Evil Within 2 after Wolfenstein 2 comes out but before COD: WWII, then I'll go straight to COD: WWII as im expecting Wolfenstein to easily be the better and longer game of the two. All depends on if I complete The Evil Within 2 or not.

NOTE: Excluding Setsuna, I currently have TWO games in my actual backlog. Forza Horizon 3 and Ori and the Blind Forest but with my Xbox One Slim boxed up and stored in my closet in addition to what my gaming schedule looks like for the next five months, I may not get to either of these games until early 2018 at the earliest as I prefer to not have any backlog from 2017 games going into 2018. Considering that I had about 15 games or so from 2016 or earlier for this generation in my backlog, to only have two games going into 2018 is huge for me so I consider that to be a success. :)

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Carrying this one from September, I just lost the will to play it...I'll try to get back to it this month, after I finish:
Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin - Started a few days ago and loving it so far, although it's pretty weird.

I also plan on finishing Cuphead with a friend.

I started a ridiculous number of games in September/August so I'm hoping to clear some of these out this month.

All of these would be an S rank accomplishment, but I'm shooting for 6 of them:

Higher priority:
Mario + Rabbits
Kameo
Trails in the Sky
Cuphead

Everything Else
Kamiko (All 3 Characters, only completed 1 so far.)
Halo 5
Darius Burst CS
20XX
Goddess Black Heart
Ever Oasis
Owlboy

This is what will make clearing 6 out real tough.

Recent Releases/October Release that might distract me:
Super Mario Odyssey
The SNES Classic
Golf Story
Nights of Azure 2
Blue Reflection
Wolfenstein 2

Looking to clear a few before Odyssey/Wolf/Stranger Things...

1. Metroid Samus Returns
2. ALttP
3. Star Fox

Started ALttP last night and I’m at the water dungeon so that’ll be finished easily. Also started star fox for the first time and im at the 2nd to the last stage.

In Samus Returns I just got the Varia suit so that’ll be a while still.

Im sure I’ll squeeze in SMW again in there between animal crossing and the eventual Overwatch Halloween event!

2. The Evil Within 2
3. Super Mario Odyssey

Bonus: Divinity 2 Original Sin.

I've never done anything like this, and the last game I beat was Nier: Automata back when it came out earlier this year.

But I'd love to beat Golf Story, Divinity Original Sin 2, and maybe Yakuza Kiwami. They're just the most story-focused games I've bought recently, maybe minus Golf Story. Other stuff like Destiny 2 is on my list to be played, but I've beaten the campaign at least on that.

Edit: I forgot that I bought Mario Rabbids, as well. Damn, finishing any of these is gonna' be rough before October is over. Got Mario and South Park coming out...

I really don't think I'll make it to three games this month, my thesis doesn't write itself after all :(

Anyway:
Muv-Luv Alternative (Steam) - I'm 10 hours in , it should take another 40-50, not a small amount but it'll be my main dish
Hacknet (Steam) - Dunno how much time it takes, I'm quite hyped to taste this popular subgenre
Affordable Space Adventures (Wii U) - I'll go with that to play on "handheld", Culdcept seems to have been delayed to the end of the month in Europe and I don't want to start something too long

I haven't finished a game in ages, I'll play it for a while then just stop for a variety of reasons.

The Witcher 3 - played a few hours, seemed OK but heard it takes like 100 hours to finish so I just said "fuck that".

Rise of the Tomb Raider - really liked it but I got to what I thought was near the end only to find out I was about half way through. Might try it again at some point.

The Last Gaurdian - seems like a mediocre game with some pretty art and a cute little story wrapped around it. Played about two hours of the one note "get to new area, find out of reach place, call over catbird to reach place, move onto next area, repeat" gameplay before I got bored. The camera and controls are awful too.

Uncharted 4 - OK, this one is good. I haven't so much stopped playing as slowed down but I'm pretty sure I'll finish this one!
