You haven't benched since April?
Yeah I’m confused why you mention April? Are you saying you’ve consistently benched since April, but hit a plateau of 255 and have only lifted exactly that much every time since reaching it?

Or you benched 255 in April and quit benching until just now or???

Sorry for not wording this properly.

I meant that i maxed out in april and was able to do 255, been consistently working out since. Tried maxing out again and couldnt even do 255.

I even started doing different chest workouts the last 3 months like dumb bell presses to make sure i wasnt just doing the exact same thing.

Once you get to a certain level, other exercises don't always mean greater numbers in specific exercises, especially when you don't do them alongside the main lift.

You might be just as strong (or stronger), but your body hasn't been handling the main lift for quite some time.

There are so many factors to consider. Have you put on weight or lost? If you're losing weight your bench will more than likely go down. Also, other lifts don't necessarily translate into a higher number for a particular exercise. Then there are other factors like sleep, diet, and general fatigue that can affect numbers. I wouldn't worry about it. If you want to increase your bench do it often and heavy and eat. That will give you the best chance.

Im about 5 lbs heavier than i was in april, diet is the same, im on a 500ish calorie surplus. I usually get 6-7 hours of sleep.

Im 28, 6 ft 190, been lifting for 2 years.

Don't underestimate the mental side of things. You being more stressed than you were at the time, feeling less confident about getting the weight up, etc can have major impacts.

Yup. I've had days where I wake up pumped to max and crush it that afternoon but try again a month later on a whim and fail miserably at the same weight. My guess is the culprit is you doing all this accessory work and not enough flat bench BB.

Are you saying that the other lifts dont work, or that the results im getting from them arent necessarily going to show up in my regular bench press?

Yes, which is what I said as well.

They're supposed to be used as accessories, not flat out replacements (assuming your goal is to increase your bench).

I'm saying if you want to get your bench up it should be your focus every chest day and you should be trying to push up in 2.5-5 lb increments with low rep work. Do the other stuff after that.

Had a barbell (35lbs on each side) on my back and fell forward scraping up my left shin when doing stepups on a bench today, iced it immediately after in the sauna.

Oh Ffs first week I start working out I get an ingrown toenail sigh

Tried to do day 1 Yoga today but too sore I had to stop, this also rules out exercise that involves pressure on the foot

Don't get discouraged. My first two months I hurt a rib, recovered, got a wicked stomach flu, then hurt ANOTHER rib. I am back on track now and feeling great.

Any tips going into the week for increasing/improving vertical jump?

Jump as high as you can
Box jumps
Single leg box jumps
Jump squat with barbell
Sprints
Sled push/pull
Heavy squats
Deadlifts
One leg deadlift
Do more jumps! Specificity is paramount.

Do all concentric action full power, as fast as you can. Basically do leg stuff but explosively.

Day 2 of my renewed vigor. Actually DL'd and squatted on the same day. Haven't done that in a while. Heavy deads ending with 455x3 and medium squats after with some medium reps at 275. Feels good.

Oh, also weighed myself for the first time in months. 190 on the dot. About 10lbs heavier than usual. Not bad considering.

Did we just become best friends? I'm starting tomorrow after months off. So excited.

Become? I get the Step Brothers reference but we've been internet bros for years. Cry face... Even after you won the Mrs (forgot the name) heart in our tourney.

10 isn't that bad, you can get rid of that shit super fast!

I fucked around on my diet too much earlier this year (lots of traveling, etc.) and didn't really wanna step on the scale and take responsibility for it till after Lollapalooza in August. Weighing in at 20 pounds more than I did this time last year definitely got me motivated again lol, especially with my birthday coming up. Curse you first bulk that turned into endless eating!

Edit: Losing mkenyon and Sean was a bummer. Stay safe out there fitfam. :(

No worries over here. Been in this game long enough now. 10 pounds of fat is about 3-4 weeks for me typically.

I'm jealous! I've been grinding it out harder than I did last year and I'm down 10 pounds in around two months. Still good progress for me though and it's been fun losing the weight since I have more definition this time around to reveal. Definitely not going to let my next bulk go off the rails like I did with this one... Probably.

I go really low for a man my size and activity level. Usually sub 1500 calories and lots of heavy lifting. Fat just melts. Once I get there I just keep it going 5 or 6 days a week and have legendary cheat days.

I think this is my first time posting here? Just getting back into lifting after a long hiatus due to school (4 months). Feeling unbelievably weak atm. I was at a 325 bench and now can barely push out a few reps of 245.

I know I'll regain my strength quickly but it really sucks seeing all the years of hard work you put in go away so quickly.

Also, gained quite a bit of weight this year and trying to drop 20 pounds. I'll keep coming into this thread to stay motivated.

Hearing about peoples progress always keeps me motivated

Haha it was purely to fill my step brothers reference quota for the day. Internet bros for years, for sure (although more in the Box Office side lately...excited for Justice League??)

Hey FitGAF. Was wondering if you guys could help me out here a bit..

I have a small gym in the building I work at, and I've started going on my lunch break to work out. My lunch break is an hour total, and I need to make sure I have time to actually eat my lunch, so my workout can't be longer than 30-40 minutes. Does anyone have a bit of a layout of what I can do to make efficient use of 30-40 minutes in the gym?

I want to focus mainly on upper body because I play volleyball almost every night and don't want my legs to be too wiped out for it.
also my thighs are thick as fuck
In terms of my overall goal, for the most part, I'm looking for tone and maybe a bit of size.
Brief body history: I had an ACL reconstruction on my knee done a year ago, but it doesn't really affect my ability to work out or exercise.
Sorry if none of this makes sense, but thanks in advance if anyone is able to lead me in the right direction!

No doubt. Pumped for Thor and JL. Two family movie nights guaranteed.

Damnit, tweaked my knee on the bike earlier. Hope it's not serious.

Me too. My wife loved WW so she'll be thrilled to see JL and Chris Hemsworth is in Thor so she'll be thrilled to see him, regardless.
I've yet to meet someone IRL who disliked WW. My 7 year old son loves it which I think is pretty damn cool. His new thing is responding to a variety of things with, "well that's neat" a la Chris Pine in the boat.

Ok, FitGaf, Bum and I will stop this movie talk. Carry on...
