I asked earlier in the thread, but is there any way to use my PS4 arcade stick with this thing? I would love to play some SFII with a stick.

For anyone using the "Switch style" icons on the SNES classic, I have been trying to compile all the icons I could find. Here is a link to a Google Drive album including all of them I have found (or created myself) so far:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4xpbJ0f0oEKcGljWFBQZXhNM1E

And since I only posted a link to my Imgur album earlier in the thread, here are a few of the icons I put together:

Suuuper handy, thanks!

Only played a few minutes, but the localization for Gunman's Proof is remarkably high quality.

Everyone make sure to play that, it's essentially a lost Zelda game (with cowboys!).
Cowboys and Zelda is not absurd. While the Agahnim drawing based off misseeing the sprite with the long thin purple legs is pretty famous (as is FFVI Emperor Geshtal = dog) Sahasrahla has either got a bald head with pointy ears or is the last cowboy in Hyrule.

Any way to add custom CRT filters to the retroarch install? If so, does anyone have one made that looks similar to the stock one included for clover? Or one that doesn't drop performance so much as the included retroarch filters?

Just downloaded hakchi, and I'm having issues.
I selected the SNES mini options.
Plugged in the console, switched off.
Turn it on with reset held down.
Release reset.
Try to install driver..., but get an error message saying "NES mini not found, sorry". And can't progress any more.

Why is it trying to install the NES mini driver, and not the SNES one?

Have you got the driver signing thing turned on as mentioned in the OP?

And don't worry, the driver for the NES Mini is the same one the SNES Mini uses.

It's actually from Smash Bros. as they fly over the SNES Pilotwings island. There is sooo little artwork around for Pilotwings to use. :(

The SFC box has a nice hanglider amd ring of dots if you can find a hires version?

You don't hold reset for very long. About a second.

Thanks for the replies. It still didn't work, though. :(

I hadn't turned off the driver signature enforcement, but I have now, and still got the same error message.
Same with holding the reset button for too long. Tried it holding it for just about a second, and still the same.

edit: finally got it to work! Tried with a different usb cable, and it detected the device immediately.

In the end I got a SNES Mini today when I was expecting it next week, oh well.

Has anybody tried to add a SMW hack on a SNES Mini using hakchi? Any comments?

Oh, I actually use that second sprite for the thumbnail already. What we mean is my 224 x 208 logo-less image.

It was a bit of a copout and I'd love a replacement, but art for Pilotwings consists of the word Pilotwings on a sky.

Oh! Sorry about that. The thumbnails are so small I thought it was some sprite from the 3DS version (I actually thought it was a parachuter rather than the jet-pack :D).

I made one for DKC3 too. It's really good, I spent a long time with a focus group of people (not Neiteio) who all had their input. We decided to focus on the most popular thing about the game, the new precocious baby character, and we used art of him with his mouth open to emphasize that this is a fun game.

Please use it as much as possible.

For some reason I read this in Nathan Fielder's voice.

So can I setup my games first using HakChi2 and then work on the custom box art/icons after the fact and resync? I just do not want to do it all big bang. like get the games on first and then adjust the rest.

Absolutely. You can upload the games with no box art at all if you really want.

Yes. Also uninstall hakchi first and then load your original dump.

So I connected the machine and Hakchi has a green dot.

Now I do:

kernel->uninstall
kernel->flash original kernel

?

Edit: Yeah this worked. I did a factory reset after also. Now I am just like new.

Might sound strange, but I randomly cannot FTP into my SNES Mini now? Haven't changed/updated anything since yesterday, when it was working fine. Now I just get a Connection Timeout error in Filezilla.

EDIT: A restart solved the issue. I had not tried turning it off and on again.

Thanks for the answer. That pink is a bit much, so I'll stick to the black NOE style cover. Means each game in the DKC series sports a different template haha

UK box was exactly the same except 'PAL VERSION' at bottom left. Plenty on eBay showing the UK code on the instruction booklet:

There's apparently a way to rip ROMs from Wii U VC but I haven't had a chance to really look into it. Definitely need Wii U homebrew to do it though.

Thanks for the heads up; unfortunately, I have no interest in home brewing my Wii U as I'm scared of being banned from e shop or online play if I do :/. Bummer, but it's not a big deal as I already have the games on Wii U, so I'm more than happy with just the other games I listed. Thanks again :)

So I flashed my SNES back to original and factory reset. I was thinking of just starting hakchi all over again fresh. Do I need to back up the dump again and stuff?

I was going to just blow away my original version, copy in my SAVED dump file and then go from there. I am wondering if I need/should do the whole process over again from the OT including dumping the kernel again.

Going forward I am hoping to just install over my previous hakchi

I'll take a look at that tomorrow. Didn't have any luck with Terranigma, but I only tried the same fix as Illusion of Gaia.

Speaking of which...

Make sure your IoG rom looks like this (run it through ucon64). I've included patches for with or without header.
https://ufile.io/1yyt3

If anyone has a better hosting service, feel free to redistribute, no credit needs to be given. The issue with this game is definitely a timing one. (Nope, see edit) This patch essentially mimics what certain SNES copiers required, which is a patch from FastROM (Close, but nope). There are already a couple games in the SNESCE that require FastROM, so I'm not sure if it's just incomplete/incorrect emulation(this latter option most likely), or just a specific quirk in this game. I wasn't able to track down the exact issue because this fix worked (it was just going to be step 1 in an elimination process, which is why I was so surprised with how little time it took)

The only issue I've found in what play testing I've done is the opening menu has black bars instead of a transparency. I believe this is actually an issue with Canoe itself as it has to do with color addition/subtraction and shouldn't be effected by this patch. It's also not exhibited anywhere else that I could find.

(edit) Update. This fix doesn't work on Robotrek either. Enix is definitely doing something funny with a few of these games and I'll try and figure out what later.

As for this fix, Illusion of Gaia should run fine, after doing some more analysis of what ucon patches, it's clear these patches do not make the game run any slower. They patch the game internally testing if it's on fastrom or slorom, but the emulator is still running them in fastrom mode (as per the SNES header in the ROM). Essentially, it was a rudimentary copy protection that tested access speed, and the emulator isn't giving the game the information it wants to see (reporting too fast or too slow). So I can say with as much confidence as I can that the incorrect black bars are Canoe related and that the game shouldn't exihibit any more issues if you get further into the game.

I'll definitely give the rest of the Enix games a more thorough looking at... but if I don't take a break and actually play some games, I'll regret it :)

Hey man. I have the Illusion of Gaia Beta rom (slightly altered script, better title screen). I tried running patching this version using both LunarIPS as well as manually. LunarIPS says it's successful, but doesn't create a second file. The manual way throws the following error:

wKtjO9C.png

Any way you could possibly make the patch work with this rom as well?

Trying to keep up with this thread, last time I checked Bust-A-Move and Krusty's Super Fun House had issues running on the SNES Classic, has there been any improvement with the newer versions of Hakchi? I saw BuddyC's post had a Bust-A-Move box art in it so I assume it runs now but I'm also kinda thinking Krusty's SFH might be something too obscure so I either should give up on or see if it runs via one of the other emulators you can load on.

Someone asked before if anyone was keeping a repository of normal box arts, so I uploaded all my images into an album.

Here it is: https://imgur.com/a/gS6dN

Additionally, I made the following custom box arts for some of the more infamous Rom Hacks, based off of repo cart box and label art. This involved a lot of google and deviant art searches. The Zelda one I could not actually find, so I made something similar.

Originally, I was gonna go with the red Super Nintendo logo and other box art decorations, but everything became a bit cluttered and detracted from the art underneath. I went with the faded white for the logo, which sort of gives the impression of a slipcase.

Thanks. Well, it seems Harvest Moon also used the same design, so at least the template I made for DKC3 got some additional use ha ha.

I've actually been using eBay UK to find UK specific examples (handy for finding out what the box blurbs say as Google keeps giving me German or French versions), but I just wanted to double check.

Speaking of which, a couple more PAL boxes:
