Happy Halloween! What Scary/Horror Games Are You Playing For The Month of October?

HStallion

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
So its obviously that time of the year. Horror movies are on every other channel and the decorations are popping up around the neighborhood from graves in the front yard to Jack O' Laterns. I know like a lot of people I celebrate by playing several horror games through out the month and I'm wondering what GAF is sinking their fangs into all month long?

Right now I'm playing Lone Survivor which I believe is out on PC, PS4 and most everything else and is a side scrolling horror game taking place in a zombie filled apocalypse with some survival elements. You scavenge for items like food, medicine, maps and of course ammo which comes in meager supplies to use against the monstrous enemies shambling around the environments but not everything is at it seems as the player is controlling a very unreliable narrator who is constantly hallucinating and things are not always as them seem. It also has one of the best soundtracks I've come across in a hot minute, the theme especially reminiscent of some of Akira Yamaoka's work from Silent Hill.

I plan on jumping into Oxen Free next and trying out the lauded conversation system in that and of course to help get ready for Stranger Things 2 as I've heard the first season and that game compared a lot. That and I need to play the sequel to Costume Quest after really enjoying the first game and maybe a few matches in Left 4 Dead 2. What about you GAF? What's tingling your spine this Halloween?

Working on Alan Wake on PC. Owned it forever and never bothered. I know a lot of people really enjoy this game... but I don't get it. The story is fine but the gameplay and enemies are a snooze.

1. Shadow person appears in obvious spot.
2. Shine light on him.
3. Shoot him.
4. Repeat

Hard to believe that is the game.

I'm going to go through Alien Isolation again.

Absolutely love that game.

Hah! Me and my friend played it for the first time ever this october :) Loved it.
Aside from that, Arkham Asylum. I mean it kinda has the right vibes for october at least.
Dying Light with the same friend again. So much fun and once again, fits the october theme.
And of course, The evil within 2! Overall I'm feeling good about it! Tbh, nothing is ever gonna beat the halloween from two years ago where I played motherfucking Silent Hill 2 for the first time ever and blowing my goddamn mind. I haven't played it a second time yet. I'm still not ready after my first time. Maybe next halloween...

Was playing Fatal Frame 5. I have very low threshold when it comes to horror games and found it very unnerving. I'm at Chapter 5,
the photo in the doll garden was impossible to take so I used that excuse to stop for a while.

Going through Doom currently, does that count?

I’m playing the first Evil Within for the first time right now. Really enjoying it. Feels like the Resident Evil 4 sequel I actually wanted.

Left 4 Dead and Castlevania games are some of the best bets.

But it really depends on how spooky/gory/scary you want. Costume Quest does an amazingly good job of capturing the atmosphere of Halloween night trick or treating.

Symphony of the Night
Spooky world in Mario + Rabbids

Also thinking about picking up Count Lucanor on Switch, but really not sure if it's good.

Started playing Silent Hill 2 for the first time on OG Xbox but I'm only 25 mins in so far. I get scared easily so it takes a lot to muster up the courage

I'm currently playing Yomawari: Night Alone on Vita, and will play Midnight Shadows as soon as my copy of it arrives later this month :)

I am more focus on films this year, plus some halloween events for certain games, but I probably slip in least a short horror game or two this upcoming week before the 27th. Maybe another run through of Little Nightmares or if it goes on sale, finally check out Detention.

I'm not playing horror games this month but rather games that take place around Halloween.
Namely, Life is Strange and Arkham Knight.

I might play though Costume Quest again. Love that game so much.
Yeah Costume Quest is great. I'd love a Costume Quest 3.

Skiesofwonder

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.
- Doom (PS4)
- Super Ghouls and Ghost (SNES Classic - thank you save states)
- Bought RE7 (PS4) to play in VR with my brother this weekend (switching out on the headset)
- Starting Hellblade (PS4) with the wife tomorrow night

Is Costume Quest available on the PS4? That seems like a good game to play with the wife, and I have always been interested in it.

Darkest Dungeon. If I make it through, which seems doubtful, by the end of October I will be jumping right into Evil Within. So many horror games to play and so little time.

Playing The Evil Within and liking it. Some of the bosses in that game can be annoyingly hard but I'm digging the aesthetics. Gonna get the sequel the moment I'm done.

Thinking about starting up a RE7 VR play through too cuz who needs sleep when you can be terrified out of your mind.

Hollow Knight has been pretty moody and spooky in places. There are some sections that even feel very Limbo-inspired in how dark they are and how they place with things running 'across the camera' in a 2D game.

I find the lack of The Evil Within 2 in this thread disturbing. Legitimately the best survival horror game I've played in years, probably matched only by Alien: Isolation, but even then. I think TEW2 is one of my faves of all time.

Quick punt: our VR survival horror game Organ Quarter comes out tomorrow!

Also Insanity VR: Last Score just came out, and apparently is pretty solid. Free and short but solid.

Hoo boy

Regardless of genre, SH2 is one of the best games ever created. I wish Stanley Kubrick could play it. Pretty sure he'd approve.

Played through Narcosis. Really cool, atmospheric deep sea horror game.

And Narcosis supports VR.
...Its supposedly a 'walking simulator' ..but as a wuss, I don't think I could muster too much more than that in VR, anyway. Sounds like a great pick. Thanks!

Left 4 Dead and Castlevania games are some of the best bets.

Playing the PS2 Castlevania games - Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness - near their launch around Halloween...great times!
