DOOM on Switch confirmed to have motion controls [Up: Waggle, not gyro]

Update: apparently motion controls to initiate glory kills were in the previous build, even though there's some confusion over the controller options screens. Either way there is sadly nothing to suggest they've added gyro

So previously, while the media were playing the original demo, Bethesda had confirmed that DOOM on Switch would not have motion controls support- https://www.rollingstone.com/glixel...at-30fps-multiplayer-download-is-9-gb-w504975

Update: Bethesda got back to me on a few other questions that have been floating around out there. I've updated the story to reflect the answers, but here they are for those who already read the story.

And, unfortunately, no, the game does not include Splatoon-like motion controls.

However, the more recent build seems to show that motion controls is now indeed an option in the settings menu-

Seems the game now has motion controls.

There were previous videos showing the settings menu where there were no mentions of motion controls, so this is something they newly added, maybe due to the amount of feedback requesting gyro controls.

UPDATE:

Damn I may have jumped the gun.

That motion controls option was in the first preview build journalists saw last month. 99 percent sure the only thing it does is let you shake the right JoyCon to do melee attacks and Glory Kills. I played the game with the motion controls setting on and that's all it did.

I do recall seeing (and talking about here) the lack of a motion control toggle in the options so that's strange that it was there before. But yeah turns out this is unlikely to be added gyro aiming.

As I said in the other thread, I hope it's true gyro aiming and not something like "waggle" for melee/glory kills or something.

Great news. Just great. 30fps is a bit of a let down but I will deal to have it portable AND have motion controls. Who ever thought so many of us would be excited for motion?

What a port to have on this platform!

This.
We need more info ASAP, proper motion controls could make a big difference to me: wasn't going to buy mostly due to already owning the game on PC, but as I *love* pointer controls that would somewhat ease the lack of 60fps.

What was their actual statement regarding it? They may have side stepped it for the preview embargo.

All I could find is what I edited into the OP, that Rolling Stone had asked them and they said no.

Yeah that could be the case but I doubt it. If so, I am sorry I jumped the gun.

Hopefully anyone who gets to play the more recent build can test out the motion controls setting?

Isn't better to wait for confirmation on what kind of motion controls this is?

It wasn't present on the initial demo build, we saw options screens which didn't show this option. Since, at the same time, they said there were no gyro aiming controls, that suggests pretty clearly to me that this is something they've added since then.

But yeah I guess I could be wrong.

Does Skyrim have gyro aiming? I know it has gesture controls but if it allows you to aim and shoot then there's a good chance DOOM does too.

Another thought, the fact that there is seemingly just a "motion controls" toggle with no further explanation should suggest that it's motion aiming. Otherwise, how would you know that you're supposed to shake the joycon for a glory kill?

It would have some sort of accompanying text if it's just motion to activate a specific prompt.

EDIT: Also the prompt for glory kills still just shows the right stick click. If it was done optionally done by motion controls too you would see an additional prompt show up.

Yes it does, when using a bow. Basically identical to BotW's aiming.

In the video the option is ticked on but it’s still played as dual analog?

My main gripe with the game is no true southpaw controls. Thankfully I could change it in the accessibility menu on PS4. Having gyro aiming would totally eliminate the need of it (Borderland on Vita does it well).

From the Rolling Stone article a month ago:

There is no difference in how graphics are rendered between docked and handheld modes, although the game may appear different simply because it is played on a larger screen, according to Bethesda. When it is docked, the game plays on your television at 720p.

The 16GB cartridge is why multiplayer is a separate download for those purchasing a hard copy of the game.
