Debating between a Switch and X this holiday (hear me out)

Odds are if switch ain't hitting the spot for ya by next year ya can probably sell it for roughly the same amount

Doesn't matter.. Get one first and the other next year when it is gonna drop in price.

They both have pros and cons.

You already have the games/accessories for the Xbox One X.

The Switch is great portable machine and has BOTW.

You can't really go wrong with one or the other.

I would trade the xbone for a ps4. Then I would sell my pro and buy a xbone and a switch (with more money of course).

Switch + xBone X + ps4. That's the best option for non-pc gamers IMO

Regarding possible droughts on Switch...

I think this is less likely to happen compared to the Wii U and (early) 3DS, mainly because of the strong Indie support, especially since you're only interested in a few Nintendo exclusives.

Usually the first year is the roughest in terms of droughts, especially for the last several console (XB1, PS4, Wii U, etc. all had pretty mediocre first years IMO), and the Switch has already made my early purchase worthwhile.

Zelda is a pretty huge game that you can play for a LONG time, Splatoon and Mario Kart I'll probably come back to when there is a lull in releases, and I already have a solid backlog of Indie games: Slime-san (really good Super Meat Boy style platformer), Tumbleseed (very interesting rouge-like), Snake Pass (very unique movement controls), Golf Story (fantastic golf RPG), and most recently Stardew Valley.

Also, I still have my OG Xbox One and it's working just fine for me. If anything, I'd be more interested in the Xbox One S, since it's cheaper and still has a 4K bluray player.
But keep in mind that I play most of my multiconsole games on PC; my Xbox is pretty much just a media center that plays my 360 BC and the few XB1 games that came out before they all started releasing on PC). So if you're REALLY interested in the extra power of the XB1X, then it might be worth it.

Upgrade to X to take advantage of the best versions of multi platform games right now and get the Switch after a price drop or revision when it'll have a bigger library. That's my opinion.

Getting that half step console which is basically what you already have with some checkerboarding 4K makes less sense than getting a NEW console.

Go ahead and get that Switch OP ;)

As an owner of all three systems, I'd say go Switch. Xbox One X looks awesome, but getting a Switch would open you up to a whole new library of amazing games. Xbox One X would just make your current games look better.

I already have the VCR Xbox One (and a PS4 Pro). I know people are gonna say "get the Switch, more exclusives yadayada", but hear me out.

XOX
+ it would be my third party console, obviously, so that's a big plus
+ 4K blu-ray...maybe?

If i am understanding you correctly if you go with the switch you are still keeping your current xbox?

if so then my edit above is really the only thing that changes for you by going xbox over a switch.

Cost isn't a factor as the trade in for the xbox will cost the same as a switch and pro controller. Every other + and - you listed for xbox is what you already have or get from xbox already and you are not improving or missing out on them by going one way or the other.

While switch provides addition to what you already have at no cost to what you already have.

But if better graphics on your platform of choice (seems to be xbox) is that important to you then i suppose go xbox.

If very few of the the announced software excites you, no point in getting a Switch as far as I can tell. I personally wouldn't buy a console off the promise of one or two titles.

Did you have a Wii U? If so, may as well just play Zelda there.

OP in your situation, all i can say is do is close your eyes and eenie meenie miney mo that shit and see what you get, a ONE X or a switch and if you are still troubled just buy the opposite of what you got.

Switch is the ultimate indie machine and it seems like that's something you'd really appreciate.

Also it has Golf Story.

You mean one of the exclusive games that he isn’t that interested in? The Xbox one which he already has.

Played through that already. That list consists of unreleased games.

As an owner of all three systems, I'd say go Switch. Xbox One X looks awesome, but getting a Switch would open you up to a whole new library of amazing games. Xbox One X would just make your current games look better.

Which I quite like, otherwise I wouldn't even about it.

I’m not sure which one is specifically better for you because it depends on your lifestyle. I move/travel a lot and the Switch has been a godsend. If I had a better setup and more time I would probably get a PS4 Pro (no interest in Xbox), but in your case that would be an Xbox One X.

Also I have greatly enjoyed getting indies on it. I’ve bought about 7 so far and have beaten 6 of them.

I'll disagree because

- The X is likely to drop in price before the Switch.
- The Switch already has a bigger exclusive library than the X.

I mean, OP already has an Xbox One and PS4 Pro. Unless someone really just isn't interested in Nintendo products at all, I'm not really seeing the dilemma here. More games at lower entry cost vs same games for higher cost.

If the X is appealing to you id go with that and wait till nintendo releases a revision that solves the issues with the current model.

How does one know this?

Just reading your introduction makes it obvious that you want an Xbox One X so I would say get it.
I mean, you know most people will say Switch but still need to defend your reasons for being interested in the Xbox One X. You really enjoy graphical fidelity so just get the most powerful console and don't worry about the hive mind.

you seem to not care that much about nintendo exclusives....which pretty much is the reason to get any nintendo consoles mate

easy answer is get switch cause you have an xbox....but if you don’t care about nintendo exclusives that much think it over

.

More because Nintendo is only developing for one system now.

Depends on your personal taste, but I'd find it hard to justify buying a console just to play Zelda/Mario. If the majority of the games you play are going to be 3rd party, the X will most likely be the place to be, especially since you have the elite controller already. $500 is a lot though.

If you value access to an additional library of games, get the Switch. If you value hardware performance, which it seems like you do to some extent, get the Scorpio.
Still a better name than Xbox One X god damnit

Seeing as you're not really interested in the Switch's offerings and care a lot about visual fidelity, resolution, frame-rate, etc, go for an Xbox One X. I'd personally go for the Switch to have access to all of the libraries but if the library doesn't interest you much then perhaps it just isn't for you

Like a coin toss but instead of letting it decide, you ask yourself how you feel about it. Done that before. Good idea.

You're doing it wrong, Brawly. Downgrade the PS4 Pro to a SLIM version, upgrade to the X1X version and cop a Switch (now or next year).

Too many exclusives.

Buy Switch, buy Mario that is out next Friday, return for near full store credit if you don’t like it, and then buy the X.

I'm hopefully playing Mario on sunday, which might help.

I commute for 30-40min a day but that's my reading time.

You already have an Xbox One and a PS4 Pro.

Unless power is that important to you, get a Switch.
This. Plus with Nintendo starting to consolidate most of their efforts towards the Switch & third parties starting to jump on board, droughts won’t be as big of an issue as they were with the Wii & especially the Wii U.

Switch for sure. You already have access to the other libraries so getting a Switch will open up the entire library (excluding pc) for you. Also those portable Indies aren't to be underestimated and the general convenience of being pick up and play at home and on the go is a big thing IMO.

I get that you're into graphics but honestly I feel like if the Switch is even a consideration to you graphics aren't going to be detrimental enough that you'll need the One X immediately when you have a Ps4 Pro and Xbox One.

"- I fear the droughts. Main reason why I didn't keep my Wii or U around for long. Indies should solve that though"

-march zelda botw
-april mario kart
-may : street fighters
-jun arms
-july splatoon 2
-august mario + rabbits
-september pokken DX
-october super mario odyssey
-december xenoblade 2

next :
-kirby
-yoshi
-travis strikes again
-metroid prime 4
-pokemon
-retro studio game ?
-super smash bros ?

+ all other games

ok i think it's worth (you can play everywhere decent games, i think it's fantastic), but if you don't care about these games buy the X
If you can in the future, buy both it's two verry different ways to play games ^^

I'm going to be getting a X but it's a terrible value when compared to the Switch right now. Especially when you already have the base version and a PS4. It's just not that compelling.

I'd get the Switch. Much better exclusives than Xbox.

The jump from Pro to the X isn't huge. If you truly want the best experience you'll need a PC.

Once you go 60fps you don't go back.
