SNES Mini Classic Hacking | More games, more borders, more gooder.

The Justin Bailey patch uses a headered ROM. I use NSRT to add headers to my ROMs if a patch needs it.

This header/non-header crap is really annoying and has caused me so many problems. I don't understand why it's even a thing.

Yep, it's something that should've been collectively rectified years ago, it's nothing but a pain for us now.

This patch?

https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/342/

It says you need a headered version of the ROM. The info underneath is a bit misleading as it then straight away mentions the unheadered version.

Grab NSRT, add a header to your ROM, then apply the patch to that.

This is correct.

If you add the values of every bit of the file together then this gives you, after a little bit of maths, the checksum.

After the file is modified the checksum will change because the file contents have changed.

You need the checksum to be correct before you patch because it's the way you confirm you're working with the correct file.

Aha, brilliant. It's been driving me mental, my hackchii is full of metroids, and I'm sick of seeing that corrupt Nintendo logo. Thank you all.

Trying to reflash with the latest version and just got a message "Kernel dumped but the MD5 checksum is unknown: 64b642dab161c47081bc778d8f5bd847 Do you want to continue?"

It already had 2.21e on it. What do I do?

Just continue. It's comparing the MD5 to the original kernel. Since you already flashed it with a custom kernel, it's different, which is fine.

Robin:

Don’t forget to update the OP for Terranigma, it still says that the audio skips, which is no longer true.

Also your fix for Pilotwings isn’t listed. ;)

Some people have posted directories of the cover art they're been using, so I reorganized my google drive so I could share mine, too.

There are all standard style box arts. But I have made some custom ones.

Thanks. By the way, the Mystical Ninja and Ogre Battle cover you have there are custom (so are others). You cannot believe how many custom and fake boxarts are out there. I usually go to ebay to check boxes, but I've found several sealed complete in box games using fake boxarts. If you want to see a real box art, check the boxes that are in bad shape.

Did Unirally ever get fixed for canoe? Last I saw was soon after the release of hakchi2 with the player 2 sprite ghosting in the centre of the screen.

Hey, guys!

In light of recent news, I'm just dropping by to say that I'm moving house. My current house was destroyed in a fire last weekend and I found a really nice place to live now. So I thought that a good way to say goodbye was to thank you all for the amazing topic so far. Robin64 did an outstanding job creating it and keeping it updated, and the posters kept it alive through their submissions, questions and suggestions.

I may come back once in a while to see how things are going, but I'm probably moving out for good. Hopefully someone has a similar idea in my new town. And who knows? Maybe we can be neighbors!

Let's just say I'm going to flash a new kernel by pressing the Power button and Reset at the same time.

If you catch my drift.

Your new house also has the same thread ;)

Oh, what an unexpected yet pleasant surprise! *wink wink wink*

;)

Although your fire analogy could have been different considering a ton of people did lose their houses on actual fires in California :p

I thought you were one of them.

Oh, no, no. Far from it. Although, coincidentally, my region here in Spain was also hit pretty hard with fires just as the California ones were beginning to die down. Weird how that works.

Personally I'm staying here. The forum software over there, especially on mobile, is a really substandard experience. They should have used Flarum, Discourse, Vanilla or something more modern. That's all I'll say on the matter.

It tells me when people have quoted me

But don't worry, both the threads will be kept up to date.

I understand this was switched off at GAF due to performance issues.

Anyway, it's not a reason to choose XenForo over more modern forum software that have quote notifications and much more.

When you have a chance to reset things, it's not a good idea to stick with 10 year old technology that's worse than what you're replacing.

Feel free to quote me on that.

Does anybody know if there's been any developments getting Smash Tennis to run correctly on Canoe? I can't find anything new on the subreddit.

Unless someone that really loves that game tries to fix it, or unless it gets fixed by way of another game's fix, then I really doubt anyone will attempt to fix it.

Seems like the only games I can't get to run are Dragon Quest III and Tales of Phantasia. I'm banking on bad ROMs, but I really don't know.

Edit: Nevermind, fixed it! Had to add a command line.

I never understood how a game like Robotrek was outfitted with a cover that stylistically has nothing to do with the game...

The Super Famicom version:

So I added the Japanese boxart into the USA version with a few alterations... I wanted to be more ambitious and recreate the SLAPSTICK style logo into stating ROBOTREK... but my Illustrator skills can only go so far (i.e. piss poor haha)... I'll throw it out there to anyone to take up the challenge!

Use if desired. SO excited that this game is now playable in native canoe!!!

Couple more questions - does the same 1610 preset id work for Marvelous' hi-res fonts? And when adding something to the command line do I put a space before the -? (for example the low latency for Seiken Densetsu 3)

It plays GBA games good but I forgot how much more space GBA games take, it’s almost not worth putting them on it , the SNES version of game was usually better anyway.

When I was making switch style boxarts I noticed that Atlus USA were using a lot of high quality illustration work for their boxarts, it really stuck out compared to a lot of the other boxarts

like, holy shit, compare that to the effort put into most other titles

Here is some boxart I made for Metal Slader Glory - Directors Cut... the last Nintendo game, developed by HAL, to ever be released on the Super Famicom. Unfortunately, there is still no fan translation insight for this text based adventure title... anyone out there???!

I used hakchi2 to hack my SNES. Now I have an NES Classic and want to do the same. However, when I try to dump the kernel. I get an invalid console: NES error. How do I switch it so I can hack the NES?

Download another copy of hakchi2 and use that to hack the NES Classic. I don't think you can do two consoles with one hakchi installation.

Would anyone know if there's a patch for Mega Man X2, X3, and Bahamut Lagoon available?
