Did Sony deliberately put so much media out before the xboX launch?

Unlikely. Pretty sure they'll have had these things goal posted for a while.

Their increasing amount of Pro bundles certainly is specifically timed though. The console was basically sold standalone with very little marketing effort until recently, at least here in the UK. Now ads mention the Pro and there's been numerous Pro bundles with free games included - not coincidental timing for sure.

Sony dont give a fuck about the 1X, it has no exclusives and Sony keep dropping bombs that will never come to the 1X. I always get shot down for saying this as its assumed I am a Sony fanboy but I own all the consoles and have no preference.

Same here. I own a xbox 1, ps4 and a nintendo switch, as well as a gaming pc. I have spent way more money on my ps4 than on my xbox. Like about 10 times more minimum. I have even spent more money on my Switch this year than on my xbox since I got it.

Personally I think the timing is so perfect it had to be planned. But who knows.

Those trailers are amazing for sure. Sucker Punch game and the Spidermanvand GoW got me hyped. LoU2 I don't know what to make of it yet.

No doubt. They've even upped the amount of PS4 Pro adverts in the last week.

But the Xbox One X is out next week and most of the games Sony showed are mid to late 2018. Which is nice but that does nothing for me as gamer until I can play them.

I mean these companies know how fickle gamers are. So far in the last 2 weeks, I've seen 7 people who said they'd never get an Xbox one X

Put down money for an Xbox One X.

Hype, new hardware and showcases for their 4K TV's, It's obviously going to push a lot of people to reconsider.

That’s why Sony is showing these because those same gamers will most likely buy a Pro for these showcases. Even with less power games like GT Sport, GOW, and TLOU2 are looking top notch.

I doubt it, can’t see Sony responding to MS or Nintendo, and not because of their market share in this current gen but more because Sony have found their groove just like they did back in the ps2 days and are doing their own thing. Their WW Studious are so damn big and important now that this is really the only way to show off what they are doing, and no better time than 8 weeks from Christmas.....
If Sony really wanted to impact MS they would have tied up big 3rd party exclusives going into the holidays.

I doubt Sony concerned about the 1X, it isn’t gonna slow them down at all this year. This was more of them styling on MS and showing off.

Honestly, I don't think that Sony is worried much about the XboxOne, or the OneX, more than likely keeping a closer eye on the Switch, its been doing far too well this year, and its the new Hotness for the holidays, and yes Sony has the games, and they dont have the new hardware coming out, the Pro has been here and readily available, so its not like it feels like a surprise or new. I think its alot about sociology and mindset of the public. Xbox has half the user base, and I don't see everyone rushing out to replace their console for 500 bucks. Especially when Nintendo is crushing it with their own exclusives neither can get, so as far as exclusivity goes, and hype I honestly don't hear alot about the OneX, no ads on tv, nothing like that. We might actually see before this generation is over, Microsoft become the third place player with Nintendo and Sony being the two rivals. What a time to be alive to be able to see that come to fruition. If at all, the prospect of it gives me the tickles.

Note: I own all 3 consoles.

Sony goes into next year with, top 3rd party marketing deals and countless early exclusives, showing off whats coming soon before a massive price reduction, likely 199 between black friday and Christmas is a smart business practice when $199 could be seen as an impulse buy.

im exactly the opposite. only have zelda an mario for the switch. did buy 4 games this year for the ps4. everything else only for xbox ^^

I love all these Sony's no longer worries about Xbox blah, blah. Of course they do because they are are direct competitor.

What you think they are so comfortable they have tunnel vision to what is happening around them?

It's like some of you have zero business sense.

It's why I hated all the fanboy shit from the shills and "insiders" from 2013-15, 1080p, power etc. The games are the most important element for any system, personally I have never been a big PlayStation guy, maybe PS1 days but usually preferred others if pushed, this year they have been excellent and 2018 looks set to follow suit. For the first time since PS1 I have spent more time on PlayStation than Xbox or Nintendo, the games are there I want to play.

System specs and features are important these days, I get that but they should never be as vital as a solid and quality games line up.

I'll say this for Sony too, since the start of E3 2016, they have done an excellent job in keeping momentum and interest going with their core fans, not only in releases but announcements and retaining excitement for not only what you will be playing in the short term but the long term too.

I look at Microsoft and what they have had to say this year and more than likely we will have to wait now till E3 next year to hear of any new games. Apart from 1X which I think is cool , a pretty shit year imo. Forth year into a life cycle it should be coming into its own, Sony's console is and it's really showing.

No, I don't think so.

Sony no longer views Microsoft as a competitor.

This is somehow true. In fact the main competitor are mobile devices. Microsoft is moving from a console market to a service platform since younger costumers are used to tablet, smartphones , etc.

This does not means current market is not important but even a successful console like PS4 is struggling to reach PS2 numbers.

Anyway the show was more oriented to attract new users than compete against Microsoft. The games are what sell consoles , just imagine if Horizont , Nioh, Bloodborne were owned by Microsoft...pretty sure XboneX would sell a lot more than it will sell this holidays

Some dont have any business sense and while i agree with you that sony doesnt have tunnel vision, the fact that they could hit 80 million ps4 sales by March, means they should focus soley on their agenda and not what either of their competitors are doing. Its worked well for them this far.

Well, no the console business is a competition. Of course marketing plans to try to cut the wind from another's sails is pretty common practice, going into holidays. Hold trailers back to put the focus on your own brand.
Please adjust your sarcasm detection 😀

They do though, Fifa 18, CoD: WW2, SWBF2, D2, RDR2 (though RDR2 got delayed).
Microsoft "only" has AC: Origins and seeing as how Ubisoft titles sell for about 50% on PS4 that deal isn't going to do much for Xbox.

In fact the main competitor are mobile devices.
They also got that covered with ForwardWorks, that Sony Music/Aniplex thing and the recently whatever it's called again that will release on other platforms.
Basically PlayStation somehow got their fingers in almost everything that isn't Steam.

Sony always spreads their announcements to multiple conferences, so no, I don't think this was a reactionary move.

People looking to buy a $500 XBOX aren't the people interested in a PS4.

I think if they were to spoil it they could have done a better job than this. I mean PGW was timed nicely for pre One X spoilers if they were going to aim anything at it, but I saw nothing at the conference that did that. I mean a price drop could be announced (surely thats imminent) but beyond that I don't think the show is going to stop people who are interested in a OneX or drown that out.

Of course it's also an opportune time for MS to show the world (or even just Europe) why you need a OneX but are they even at PGW?

Its obvious as hell OP. Pro/X1 owner here for the rec, no matter amount of exclusives on PS4 will stop me from getting multi-plat King on Nov. 7th..straight up fax, fam.

They might have put a little extra oomph on the conference but Sony doesn't really need to do much here. They have a shitload of great looking exclusives coming all next year and great price points on both their consoles. The XB1X looks great but as someone who has a PC its a tough sell since I can play most if not all the games for the future of the console. I was heavily debating PS4 Pro vs XB1X to play with my friends in Destiny 2 but its not really a tough choice considering the amount of exclusives and the fact that the Pro will probably be $300-350 around black friday.

In fact, it actually did make me doubt my Xbox X preorder. Thought to myself "Do I really need the X when the Pro has all these games and can play them in decent resolution too?".

Ugh.

Eh, no. Sony did not organize the dates for Paris Games Week. It just fell that way. Yes the new Sucker Punch game looks great, but it will probably not make 2018. I'm betting a delay to 2019 or 2020. I don't think Sony with it's 2 to 1 lead is too worried. However, if they start trying to keep devs from making X1X enhancements to games they have marketing rights for, then you can speculate they might be worried.

It has been in development for 3-4 years already.
I was going to buy an XBOX but it wasn't for the games because those I can play on a PC.
The conference did slightly sway me more towards getting a PS4 Pro earlier than I'd thought, but even that I'm in no hurry either.

Yes, I do think Sony was more concerned with the Switch launch then the X.
If they don't have reasons to be worried by the X, they even had less reasons to be worried with Switch.

X compete in the same market as them and sold almost a 50% of PS4 sales. Switch is more focused to Nintendo fans and portable market, was released way later so was going to have a way smaller game library and hypothetical big multiplatform games were going to look way worse due to horsepower. As of now Switch has like a 10% of PS4 sales, so didn't affect them at all.

Sony may end this fiscal year (it will be 4 years and a half after launch) with 80 million PS4 in the market. And that is just after Ni No Kuni 2, God of War and Monster Hunter World release, and before releasing Spiderman, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Death Stranding, Last of Us II, Dreams, Wild, Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone, RDR2, Kingdom Hearts 2, Shenmue III and many other big games they have coming. And the natural path of a console leads to see a PS4 price drop in 2018 or 2019.

This means that even if they don't announce a big exclusive game or a marketing deal with a big AAA multi in the next 2 years (something that they will do), they will continue selling PS4s very well during 2018 and 2019 too. They may even reach the 100 million PS4s sold mark before releasing PS5 in 2020, and looking at the history of the previous PlayStations they won't stop releasing games and selling PS4s the day PS5 releases. So don't need to worry about X or Switch at all.

Maybe Microsoft announced the release date of the Xbox One X deliberately to come out after the 2017 Sony Paris Games Show Conference?

I don't give a fuck I'mma play Cuphead in 4K on my One X

This is neogaf

Seriously though, I expect Sony to announce a PS4 Pro Price Drop to $349 for BF.

2018 is likely the final year of full-on dedicated PS4 support so there's no point holding off til E3. maybe a little strategry in stealing MS's "thunder" but i wouldn't read too much into that part of it

I think it's only logical that Sony would want to divert attention away from the XB1X launch. Why wouldn't they?

I don't think Sony is 'terrified' by XB1X by any stretch of the imagination - their bread and butter console is the PS4 slim, which outsells the Pro by about 5:1, and also outsells the XB1S by a comfortable margin most months.

It's likely the XB1X will outsell the Pro in the US, and maybe Australia and the UK. It will probably won't through continental Europe and Asia.

Sony's in a very comfotable position at the moment, with numerous exclusives under it's belt and plenty more to come.

Is there any reason for Sony to be afraid of the X? They are still selling miles and above what the Xbox One is doing. A middle gen refresh won't change things that much. If anything, this conference was a statement on why you should keep your PS4 or buy one in the near future.

Sony is still investing on exclusive games for their platform and they have enough first party software for you to consider the PS4 over the competition. I'm just glad Nintendo and Sony actually care about first party content still, it is vital to the vision of their platform.

Worldwide, no reason to fear.

In the US, there's only been 10% more ps4 sold than xbox one.

I have a PS4 and have scorpio pre ordered. You can have both easily PS4 for excellent exclusives. Xbox one x for 3rd party titles and 2 generations of BC plus 4k blu-ray player. Would got a pro instead but Sony dropped the ball on the Ram and the 4k blu-ray player for me.

I don't think you got my meaning. The Scorpio is not targeting the same buyer at $500 as a PS4 at $300, and to a lesser extent the Pro at $400.

Sony needn't worry because the XBOX has limited appeal/overlap with their target markets at its current price point, and less so should Sony slash prices during the holidays.

No doubt about it and it's probably made Microsoft uncomfortable too. All of the games shown by Sony's first parties look great and Microsoft has yet to show something that looks better on their end to promote Xbox One X. Even Forza 7 @ 4K on PC can't really compare to Gran Turismo Sport (per Digital Foundry) on PS4 Pro. Sorry, but Sony is killing it right now, not sure how Microsoft will ever recover from this or down the road.

DF did not say that lol

Pls point to their comparison where they said F7 cant compare to GTS. In a comparison video no less. Lol

In fairness Sony have nothing at all to worry about. Sony have Games to push the consoles forward, all MS have right now is the most powerful console with a poor catalog of games and nothing really great on the horizon. And that’s coming from someone how stupidly pre ordered the X

Sosokrates

Report me if I continue to console war
I have both a regular ps4 and and x1, Im getting the 1x and sticking with the regular ps4.
It will be like last gen again where the sony console was an exclusives box and 3rd parties I played on the 360.
Also ps4 is more powerful then the x1, I pretty sure ps4 exclusives will hold up really well on a 4k tv, more so then Microsoft exclusives on an x1 will.

While I agree with you that sony has nothing to worry about. Saying that all MS has is the most powerful box is simply not true. They have cuphead, forza, pub,3rd party releases, a great online service, back compat, ea access and game pass.
