Fantastic, I do love these games. I wonder if they'll have done anything extra with the first game?

I love the retro theme too.

PS2 emulator update? At the end of the trailer it says the footage was captured on a PS4 Pro. The official images also say 4K on PS4 Pro.

TGO

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
And I bet that theme will never hit the UK/EU store

You're crazy to say Jak X is a bad game.

Did I say that? It's not bad at all. It's absolutely mediocre, though (especially considering it came out 4 years after TMB). All 3 are. Jak 1 was the only legitimately good game they made that entire generation.

That's nice and all. But where is Tenkaichi 3, MGS 2, and 3. Those are some of the biggest classics ever made. 😢

right? y would they do this to you. who are they catering to? people that like the worst plaformers? (post 1995 of course)

Spare me the subsersive rhetoric, they turned a great platformer into a grimy mechanical mess of a game targeted towards edgelords all because of GTA 3's massive success. The games have aged very poorly and are about as uninventive and derivative as it gets, gameplay wise. Ratchet and Sly games are still a joy to play today where as Jak 2 and 3 are completely pointless ventures unless you're revisiting them for nostalgic reasons.

Meanwhile, Jak X is completely pitiful compared to Crash Team Racing, the fact that it came out after Double Dash and Twisted Metal Black just makes it seem sad. If you want a fun combat driven racer for the PS2, Wacky Races and Looney Tunes Space Race are both significantly better games than Jak X and neither of them is anywhere near being great. The fact that both predate Jak X by 5 years is hilarious. If you want vehicular combat, Twisted Metal Black is several orders of magnitude better.

I haven't played Jak games since they first came out. They hold a special place in my heart and I'm afraid that if I play them now, my 12 year old vail of love and nostalgia will be torn and I wont like the games as much.

I enjoyed these when they came out. I am going to try and not buy them as I know If I do buy them and they will sit in my library played for 15 minutes each.

I actually enjoyed Jak 2 at the time but it probably has aged terribly at this point. Jak 3 while better felt like the Jak and Daxter concept was just tired at that point. Jak X was a reasonably good MARIO kart for non Nintendo owning gamers.

I finished Jak 3 a few months ago and holy shit is that game hard. Most frustrated I've been with a game in so long, it has mission after mission of timed bullcrap that is just so easy to fuck up on and lose 5 minutes. Mildly enjoyable though.

Oh yea, and Daxter is completely unlikable. I like the game but man they are so many things working against it.

I agree that 2/3 are worse but only because of the open world nature like GTA. I hate having to travel between points to do missions. That said the platforming is just as good when you are playing.

Don't crucify me but I've never played ANY of these? How do they compare to games in similar genres like Ratchet and Clank?

There's a lot less strict action/exploration and a lot more racing, there's a lot of required racing missions in this game. It has guns but you find them, find ammo. It has a lot of minigames in it, no real currency other than the orbs which you use to unlock Ratchet-and-Clank style "Cheats" that mirror levels, give Jak a big head etc.

As similar as they are to Ratchet, they (2&3) are kind of the antithesis of the accessibility that defines R&C. They're somewhat fun though.

The characters aren't funny at all and are way too serious. R&C while not a pillar of game humor is way funnier and the cutscenes are actually watchable, contrasted with Jak where they give you the story and give you horrendous "comic relief" from daxter to sour the taste in your mouth.

Do we know if they are enhanced/remastered at all?

They're not being "remastered"--they're the original PS2 versions running on an emulator on the PS4. That being said, they do gain some benefits from the emulator and the PS4 in general. They'll be rendered in higher resolution, and you can apply many PS4 OS features such as screen shot and video capture, Remote Play, and SharePlay.

I hope Sony improved the Emulator for PS4 PRO.

Some people (such as NeoMetallix above) have noticed that the screen shots and video in the PS.Blog post were captured from a PS4 Pro. The text "4K images are from PS4 Pro" appears at the bottom of each screen shot. I suppose we'll all find out for sure in a few days!

Not as good but pretty damn fun. The first Jak feels very much like a slightly less inspired Banjo-Kazooie, it's my favorite of the bunch. Sly still is the king out of the 3 anyway.

They're just getting the standard PS2 on PS4 treatment according to the PlayStation Blog.

Lack of infos 101. Pics says 4K on PS4 Pro... Are you upgrading the PS2 emulator? Is it emulated like the PS2 Classic Jak&Daxter released earlier? Will it supersample on a 1080p screen? Is the framerate now a fixed 60fps? How much for the bundle?
PortableKingpin said:
it upscales to 1080P from the original game resolution. We pushed the frame rate improvements where possible as far as we could.
Also...
  • Jak X doesn't have online multiplayer.
  • You either buy the games as the four game bundle or as individual games, they are investigating a second bundle for people who already own the first game. Stay tuned.
  • They haven't modified the camera controls so if there was no option to invert the camera originally, there still isn't.

It's good that they came out and clarified that on the PS.Blog. Even so, they should also remove that "4K images are from PS4 Pro" text from the screen shots, as that's rather deceptive.

Jak X doesn't have online multiplayer.

True, but the original game also supported LAN play. I wonder if you could link up PS4 systems to play together, or even possibly link up a PS4 with a PS2.

Definitely been waiting to play Jak again, but I'll wait for a sale since it's busy these days with all these games!

I agree, i'm playing through Jak 2 again, i haven't played it in years. I do think the actual platforming parts are tight and still a lot of fun. But i absolutely despise traversing the overworld and some of the lame escort missions, and racing ones. Jak 1 is still GOAT imo

This is why Sony won't bother for BC and BC that improves older games cause Sony fans are all to eager to throw money at Sony for stuff they already bought before

These PS2 games are handled via backwards compatibility and they are improved over the original PS2 releases.

It's not BC if you need to buy it again.
They're running on a PlayStation 2 emulator on a PlayStation 4. It's the very definition of "backwards compatibility".

Whether people are paying for these has nothing to do with the technicalities of how they work on the PlayStation 4.

No online for Jak X means a pass for me.
Yes, it would be a nice time to jump in, but I guess that would be much easier if they were remastered instead. I guess that's the downside there.

Ideally, these games should get the 4k native 60fps boost with TAA, hell, even 2160CB would have been jelly...

Not BC, doesn't matter how Sony is doing it, if they are charging money for it if you bought the game before its not BC. But awesome job explaining how sony has emulation intact but would rather charge people then actually put real BC on their console.

Like I said you fools would rather keep throwing money at sony then demand they use their already existing emulator giving actual BC.

Look, why must you always resort to calling people names when you're wrong about something? It doesn't strengthen what you're saying at all.

I'm more than happy to discuss backwards compatibility with you but until you actually understand the words that you're using there is little point in me trying to help you clear up your confusion on the matter that you raised.

So since you are so adament that this is BC you are perfectly ok with Sony raking people over the coals to re pay for games?

Seriously Sony is going to contnue to abuse its user base cause you fools keep making excuses for them.

So its ok to charge for BC now cause "Sony"
