Incredible Dead Cells Trailer

The game itself looks very cool, but I wanted to take a minute and appreciate this wonderful animated launch trailer.

I've watched it multiple times already. Not only is it full of visual energy, it's hilarious.

It's a good game, all in all, but I can't stand the roguelike mechanics anymore.

I actually like the simplicity of their "roguelike" characteristics.

The maps do change, but it is a change so "small" that can barely be perceived, after a while.

My only struggle with the game is the points where you get your permanent upgrades: if you get beyond said upgrade point, your only way of upgrading is restarting the run.

Game is absurdly good. Went to see a walkthrough after 40 hours of playing: you actually can not get the permanent upgrades on the same run.

It IS made for any kind of player, to be fair.

Really nice trailer.
I have bought far too many games lately and have no time to play them :(
You can still get the discount on the switch for 20%.

Damn. I really wanted to get the physical version of this, but I see it is 3 weeks later.

This seems to be happening a lot lately. Is it just harder for indie developers to have a simultaneous release or is it another method of curbing physical sales in favor of digital?

Looks like the review embargo isn't until after the release tomorrow. Which means to get it 20% off for buying it early, you'll have to take a leap of faith.

I've heard enough that I'm still confident, but I'd had liked to see reviews by today at least.

I'm fairly confident indies just want you to be able to buy their games, in any format. It's probably just hard for them to get carts made -- certainly harder than optical discs.

I guess I was wrong about the embargo. Just saw a 9.7 from IGN. 92 metacritic at the moment.

I knew this was going to be special just seeing the teaser trailer on PSN.

The art is amazing, the controls are great , very responsive

Highly recommended

Wants the largest console games publisher to avoid Nintendo's platforms.
Been sitting on the (preorder) fence for way too long to not get it soon-ish. By all reviews and impressions it's a game by my taste.
ps: killer trailer

played about 6 hours, i'm HIGHLY disappointed, i didn't know the game was basically Rogue Legacy 2 but worse, i thought it was a normal linear with open world game like Ori and Chasm

every run is pretty much the same, you go through the same areas in the same order, and if you unlock an ability, you may go to another path, there is like 2 paths

the abilities you upgrade with Cells are useless, Random weapon drop ?? flask carrying capacity ? money you can keep upon death wtf ? there is supposed to be Health power upgrades, Defense upgrades, Damage upgrades, stuff like that to make you feel the progression and make you feel stronger the longer you play, not random bullshit

every run you have to go through the same bosses in the same order

this game's progression is the worst i have ever seen, at least Rogue Legacy had meaningful progression that will make you stronger the longer you play

the only game that pulled the "every run is different" right in my opinion was Isaac, sure there was no progression other than unlocking characters but every run really is different, and there was a LOT of bosses, enemies, and abilities, where Dead Cells fails at that

is Hollow knight also the same ?? or is it a normal linear game ?

even though i'm disappointed, i'll still play it until Death's Gambit comes out

Hollow Knight is a traditional metroidvania with challenging combat, no roguelike elements

This game looks fantastic. Seems it will be the first game since Rogue Legacy to scratch that old school old school itch for me.

Wait, you're not giving the game time to breath.

Random weapon drop is so that you can start with the weapons that you unlocked so far. If you start with a shitty weapon like hammer or broadsword, you can still go to the left of starting area and bash the walls to get the starting sword/shield/bow.

flask carrying should be self explanatory: more flasks = more life.

Keep money is one of the most useful skills, since through the early stages of the game you unlock a vendor that upgrades your gear for you. Also, money doors. Also, reseting mutations. Useful before bosses.

Health and damage are upgraded through the run.

There are few bosses in the game. Real challenge are the regular enemies

that's my problem with the game, the progression is pretty much useless, i don't care about random weapon that i unlocked ? sure it's nice but alone is not enough, there must be a permanent stats upgrades that makes me feel stronger after playing like 50 hours, not some random loot that i may find in a normal run

the game's gameplay is really good, but they fucked up the progression pretty bad and it's a big mistake in my opinion, it makes this game a 10-20 hours and done instead of 100+ hours

there's your problem, man.

95% of the game are the weapons and the million gameplay possibilities. Don't get attached to any weapon. Almost every weapon is fun to use (I personally trade everytime that i get a hammer or broadsword, but someone may like them. )

i know they are important, but you may get them in a random drop in your first few hours through the game, but then over 100+ hours later, you got them again, what's the difference this time in terms of your stats ?? nothing, you're still the same as you were in the first few hours as when you got the weapon through a random drop

you understand my point ? the game is purely on luck instead of progression and upgrading your stats to feel stronger the longer you play

adaptability. If it drops an awesome version of a weapon that I don't like, I just turn it into cash. You probably didn't unlock the weapon upgrader. you can reroll weapon stats and create some small combos (spread oil > burn > +175% damage on burning enemies is one I use often.)

Add to the equation talisman effects, mutations AND the RNG weapon drop, and you'll have a game as diverse as you want.

Also, every weapon can be used almost as long as you want. You just have to make the upgrades of its color.
