VR is the future of video games. In 20 years, everyone is going to be in a metaverse. Sony has to get to a head start or they will miss out.
This is all prep for this:
its still not yet known if going in this early is the best play.
Something like ready player one is a mainstream product even if the visuals were just PS4 level (at very high resolution), but thats going to take several new technologies. I think waiting until the tech is better for VR might be the better idea.
I know the idea is to get in now and establish tech, tools and experience but I wonder how much of an advantage that will give.
The killer app of the oasis in RPO is that you can literally do anything, I don't think something that big could be limited to one piece of hardware
The oasis is basically like the nee internet, where instead of websites or apps, you have 3d places in a virtual universe. The funny thing is companies now seem to think they can create and own that universe.
I guess in RPO the oasis is created and run by Gregarious Games but I doubt any company in reality would be as fair and morale as GG.
The VR market at the moment is not predictable, though if I had to make a prediction I think EPIC might be the future VR winners, fortnite will introduce more and more oasis style features, and things like virualised movie will be recreated and transfer using unreal engine and all this will make its way to VR eventually. Facebook may even allow access to epics metaverse, but eventually it will make facebooks VR software obselete and just not as good.
