So much anger! :messenger_grinning_sweat: :messenger_grinning_squinting:

Anyway, I just played the first area. Ultra settings, 4k with DLSS set to Quality. ~120FPS. Looks bonkers. This is definitely a game you want to play on a controller in the living room, so that's what I'm gonna do in the evening. It's not the best fit for M+K and "only" 42 inch OLED TV disguised as a PC monitor.

It's bonkers how good it looks. Amazing achievement for these devs. Tempted to hook up to the oled too but my new monitor is making it look awesome anyway so I'm happy.

Anyone know if its cross save vs pc and xbox game pass?

Also, I'm having this annoying thing where it's showing me keyboard prompts when I'm using pad on pc...anyone else getting this and is there a fix?

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Yep, even on console there is a clear and obvious upgrade in tech from the first game to this.

By the way, has there been a new patch today ? Or was the one that we already got yesterday THE day 1 patch itself.

Looking forward to the tech breakdown from digital foundry. Could care less about the versus videos these days tbh.

I'm currently in the tutorial, trying to get 60fps on PC. god damn this game runs like ass tho

so on my 3060ti in order to get a somewhat locked 60fps in this tutorial section my settings are:

Vsync - No
Resolution - 1560x1440
Resolution scale - 100% (DLSS overwrites this)
Display Mode - Fullscreen
DLSS - Auto
Reflex - Enabled
Motion Blur - No
Chromatic abberation- No

Draw Distance - High
Shadow maps - High
Volumetric lights - High
Ambient occlusion - Medium
Depth of Field - Low
Contact Shadows - None
Light Shafts - High
Scree-Space Reflections - Medium
Texture Quality - High

edit:
this is what the game looks like with these settings:

first a shot without camera movement:

and here a shot where I moved the mouse at medium speed
to demonstrate temporal resolution with DLSS on auto:

Cretinously credulous
On PC and just got hit with a 44gb update. Seeing some folks saying it adds DLAA and Nvidia Reflex among other optimizations I guess

Also if youre playing on PC it has full dual sense support, plug in the controller

Oh nice. Will do. Dualsense will be nice touch.

Really visually pleasing game, but I can't help noticing that the heads of the main characters seem too big for their bodies.

Playing the PS5 version on 120hz capable monitor. I'm guessing I'm on the 40fps mode as everything feels better than an unstable 30.

That and it's sort of jarring for these two really well modeled and designed characters to be interacting with noticably lower budget models.

Good graphics, stiff animation, underwhelming gameplay (at least at the beginning), you can feel its not game with biggest budgest but kudos for 40fps mode on premiere

Surprised no one seems to be mentioning that the main characters have completely lost their French accents in this sequel.
Doesnt bother me or anything but just surprised no one in the media is talking about it with how petty they can be with stuff like this.

"A few performance issues, some slightly underbaked characters, and a constantly whispering Amicia do detract from the experience"

This really got to me in the first one, along with Hugo's incessant whining lol. I did finish it, but it sucks that this seems to be an issue with this new one (the whisper talking) SHUDDER
I hate when characters never stop talking. It's usually done as an exposition tool because developers think their audience are too stupid to understand what's happening or how a character feels about something without making them mutter their every thought out loud

Isn't the same VA though ? I'm playing the french version anyway which is excellent but i'm cheating. I'm french.

No way these posts are serious right...? Game looks good but not HOLY SHIT looking good unless you never played modern games before, nor a generational difference unless you're blind. Jesus the hyperbole in this thread is off the charts. Imagine getting a 4090 just to play this at decent framerates. What the fuck is this insanity? Are gamers getting dumber with each year?
Not the diplomatic way i would have used to say a similar concept, but fucking thanks, i thought i was going blind even if i have 13/10 eyesight.

I guess this is one of those game that looks completely different from screenshot and must be played live, but from the pics i just don't see what other people see.

Yeah pretty sure its the same VA's but they had a pretty strong French accent in the orig game, in this game is almost completely gone.

That first sequence with the rats was glorious at 60fps, the added sharpness of 30-40fps is nice, but with sequences like that 60fps is a no-brainer; don't often turn off developer things like motion blur, but this implementation seems to just smear everything with the slightest movement, so turned it off an it's much nicer in motion now. Keeping the CA though, wish it had FSR2.

It is, regardless of game pass.

I like Amicia and the beauty of the environments. But the game is a little boring so far i have to admit, despite the fact we finally have some freedom in the stealth segments and a better level design. The pure linear moments where you're doing some fake puzzles with the rats with a character guiding you for every step so you don't have to start thinking about anything are not good.

Really?? I loved that detail in the original.
Yeah, and all the random npc's sound like old English speaking people, like you often get in these old times set games. Although i cant remember how random npc's sounded in the orig game, if they sounded French or not.

I guess they did for the US and countries where they thought gamers wouldnt understand the accent or something.

Maybe they were scared of the twitter mob being angry because the voice actress is not french so they erased the accent to not give more bullets to the mongoloids?

(Deranged) People could see a fake accent like a mocking to the french language...

Charlotte McBurney doesn't sound like your classic french name.

Actually yeah i wouldnt be surprised if thats why either.

They did, some stronger than others though, since it's clearly just English speakers putting on an accent. (there are also just straight up English soldiers)
Though ultimately accented English is just wacky, unless they are actually speaking a different language natively, there's no reason for them to have an accent and can be kinda distracting; just set the game to French audio instead.

No dont get me wrong it doesnt bother me, in fact i'm not that keen on the French accent. I was just surprised that no one was mentioning how they completely dropped the French accents in this sequel.

By editing the ENGINESETTINGS in the documents folder, people can tweak settings even further.

For example, to disable lens dirt, lens flare, film grain and vignette.

Wait, they don't give you the option to remove those in game?

Forced vignette and film grain, I find hard to believe.

Seems like more of the same from what I played. I didn't love the first game but I know a lot of people really rated it so I can't see that they would be disappointed with an improved follow-up.

Aside from a few dodgy textures the environments are up there with the best I've ever seen. The characters really don't look great and the lip-sync is really poor which brings the overall package down but, outside of the cutscenes at least, there is a lot of wow factor. The IQ isn't very good on console though, not sure what reconstruction they are using but it's quite messy especially with hair.

I can't play it at 40fps though even with the slow paced gameplay and I doubt my PC would do much better so I'll wait until I upgrade.

How high does the framerate go in the unlocked mode?
Got any videos or pictures of it with the framerate unlocked?

Not getting the console version but curious to see how high they can actually push these consoles with these visuals.

Jeez this is a massive massive upgrade from the first game.
Gotta give them props for the work they have done.
Considering they are a relatively small studio its quite the accomplishment.
Custom engine too.....well done to them.
I’m at my friends to do it but it seems to average 44-45 but can hit the low 50s

77 on Open Critic as of this post:

And 86 on Metacritic as of this post:

That's an odd discrepancy. Usually the OC and MC are within a 3-4 point margin of each other, OC trending slightly higher. I've noticed this with multiple big games over the past two years so, it's just kind of odd Requiem's MC is so much higher than the OC and I'm wondering why that is.

I'm looking forward to playing the game though, so good to see that it's reviewing pretty well.

EDIT: Never mind. Just checked, it's 85 MC Series X, 84 MC PS5, 81 MC PC, and 83 OC so that's within the usual margins.

Question for those with 120hz VRR TV on Xbox Series X. This is my first time trying a 40fps mode. Given VRR range starts at 40fps and this is capped at 40fps, I take it enabling VRR would not provide any benefit??

If I'm not mistaken, LFC (low frame rate compensation) "doubles" the frame rate in the displays eyes so you should keep it on.

Hugo is so adorable. His characterization is a lot better compared to the first game. He's a lot less of a whiny brat and a lot more likable.

Character models are still in uncanny valley territory, but good god the rest of the game is absolutely gorgeous. Probably the current gen game that's come closest to living up to the promise of that UE5 tech demo. 30 FPS is definitely noticeable, but it's an extremely stable 30FPS so honestly not as big of a deal as I'd thought it was going to be.
