Star Wars Jedi Survivor PC Performance Discussion OT: May The Port Be With You

Even a ugly game can cause problems if it's built around bespoke specs
Or if it's done incompetently on PC. Don't we have a bunch of next-gen games that look and run much better than this? A Plague Tale: Requiem, FS 2020, Returnal (a port of a PS5 game), Dead Space Remake. Even Forspoken which admittedly looks bad, still runs much better on PC. But the moment we have a game that performs horribly on PC, hur hur, I/O secret sauce.

As usual, wait six months and you get it cheaper with better performance.

This. But most gamers don't have the patience.

Every gen there is this turnover where PC games become noticeably and suddenly far more demanding with far worse performance than ones that came out just prior.
Not on games that look like last gen games, like TLOU1 and Jedi Survivor.

Here is a timestamp that shwos drops to 30 fps going all the way down to 27 fps. This is a $1,600 4090. The 3080 Ti is roughly 40% slower so it makes sense that it would see regular dips to below 20 fps Fextralife mentioned.
Fair enough but as I said, the price doesn't really mean anything because those new cards ain't all that great. I'm not a specialist of course but I've read enough, and heard my brother rant about this topic at length, and the gist of it is that these cards simply ain't worth that price because of how minor of a difference they really make compared to their price.

The problem is we are finally getting games built around PS5 & Series X specs & a lot of PCs don't have the I/O bandwidth
lol come on man. seriously? no game has been a wow game so far this gen, nothing....none of the shit that ha been released is something that cant be played on pc with a 3080. i do agree with ppl that are ttying to run 4k with a 1660 and thats the bigger lot, but theres quite a few million enthusiasts out there

I'm glad I got the game free with the purchase of the 7800X3D but it definitely sucks to see these issues. And honestly, the lack of dlss is a major aggravation point. I know all about the marketing deal and all that crap or whatever that AMD has established but it is clearly hurting the game in the performance and honestly even if having it were there, it would simply just mask the issues at hand.

What is going on with the state of these stupid PC ports. Especially when this game is getting pretty good reviews.

Nah, first one is fine.

The game is due in 2 days. Is there another patch planned in the meantime?
A number of reviewers have said a patch is planned for the 27th, and maybe even another in time for launch.

I ran the first one on PC more than fine, but maybe it was after a few patches hit it? I don't know. If I had performance just like it, I'd be more than fine.

It's a shame that these things happen, especially as a primary PC gamer. But I'm going to wait and see how things go for me personally before torch and pitchforking. I've had too many situations where folks act like the world is falling apart, but when I play it, even with issues (most of the time more minor than people insinuated) it's still enjoyable and doesn't affect my experience.

Regardless, with how patches can hit at launch or right before launch that can improve the experience, it's not worth freaking out until launch day IMO.

lol are you serious? There are several instances in this video where the 4090 drops below 40 fps. Hell 90% of this video is the 4090 running the game in the 40s at 1440p!!

1:23 shows a drop to low 30s.
3:00 shows a drop to low 30s.
6:30 shows a drop to low 30s.

Again, this is 1440p. THE most powerful card in the world. Unable to run the game at anywhere close to 60 fps. Even TLOU wasnt that bad. Just admit you got it wrong and move on.

Haha 30 fps at 1440p on a 4090 HAHAH

Check the GPU utilisation. Appears to be a CPU issue.

With DirectStorage its about equal to a PS5. Then again I doubt this game is taking advantage of any of that on consoles as basic textures take over 10 seconds to load on PS5 in some areas. Just seems to be a bit of a technical mess.

I mean I know some of this is salesman talking but its alot more complicated than just breaking down to raw speed.

Pc can still brute force if utilised correctly but it isnt as easy as the last two gens anymore.

So, whenever a next-gen (current) only game runs badly on PC, it's because of the IO secret sauce. When it runs well it's because??

With DirectStorage and GPU decompression you can get up to 20GB/s. It does take some of the GPU performance to do so, but it's minor. Forspoken (the only game to use DirectStorage) loads faster on PC compared to PS5.

Never said that's the case especially since every game and engine is different and I also said optimization is definitely a factor but its more complicated than just talking some numbers.

I/O secret sauce.....noting the XSX and XSS dont have the same "I/O Complex" but seem to be fairing just fine.

This bad performance is NOT because PCs lack the PS5s "I/O Complex".

The PC systems are really plagued by bad I/O. This will not get any better with more and more demanding (amount and resolution) texture feature sets.

Will be interesting to see how much Direct Storage can act as a band aid but ultimately there is need for new hardware solutions to sort this out.

This is the way.
Fuck these devs releasing PC versions like this, though of course most will come in to gloat and point fingers at the PC platform, we can look to other much superior recent ports on the same platform and wonder what the hell went wrong here and TLoU

Gone are the days where I could just crank up everything to the highest settings knowing that the GPU in my system that costs 3x as much as a current gen console would run a game without any issues, shit is honestly embarrassing. Gonna buy myself a ps5 in a couple of months and use my 3070 build to play xbox exclusives, this gen absolutely defeated my will to upgrade my PC later down the line again, GPU prices aren't helping.

Wait is this a meme now or are people being serious?

"But of course a $13500000 pc can run this better than a $4,50 console"

When a ps4-looking game somehow manages to run worse than a fully path-traced Cyberpunk, i have no doubts the devs are to blame

It takes too long for devs to optimize for PC so they rely on patches instead of delaying the game.

If they don't patch this on day one, it deserves every bit of the review bombing, this is not acceptable.

Where is the god damn integrity PC devs? do you enjoy releasing stuttering shit we have to play on low?
