I often wonder if we'll ever get anything like Food & Liquor, The Cool or the Fahrenheit 1/15 mixtapes from him ever again. Dude has gotten more consistently "blah" over the years. FOTP was a start, but it's nothing earth shattering and certainly not a return to form. I understand musicians evolve over time and change their styles, but with Lupe it seems he's more sidestepped his progress as an MC & artist rather than taken the next step forward.

I don't know what it is. He's like the bizarro-kanye. Everyone thought that each of them could 'save rap' and they both went off the deep end.

I agree with this. Both had great debuts and follow ups. Then it all went to shit. Kanye is wearing Kilts and Designing dresses, and Lupe is dubstepping his way into mediocrity.

I really think he doesn't like his job, to be honest. He wanted to retire after LupEND, the record label said no to that idea, so he was starting to fade off into other projects until he was left off that MTV list - which for some reason pissed him off. So now he's making music again, but not from the same spot he was before.

This mixtape reminds me of his mini-one that dropped before Lasers. A couple of good tracks, a few outstanding ones, but largely just...meh. Passable, but if you're on that conscious angle you can't be "meh" and survive.

Well, unless you team up with Ortiz, Royce and Crooked I. Then you can eat off them for life.

Rap didn't need saving, but kanye definitely made it better.

ALSO, from 50's twitter, apparently hes putting out a 10 track ep next week?
The tweets:

Its been 10 years since I put out 50cent is the future. So I'm putting out the BIG 10 next week 10 smoking hot tracks #SK

I'm shooting videos for every song on the tape. The BIG 10 I got something for a haters ass it called hits lol #SK

Dude....you're a better producer than Kanye. And I don't mean that in an insulting way, you are a way more talented producer than Mr.Dipshit West.

What I find most appalling about Lupe is the fact that he probably does not think the Fahrenheit 1/15 series was a good one. Stop using such electronic oriented beats and use good ones like on those mixtapes.

And stop getting people to sing the hooks, he did the same thing on The Cool and F&L, but they didn't feel forced, and they didn't feel like he got some random singer to fill in a void that would otherwise be Lupe rapping his own hooks.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Lupe is a beast when comes to lyrics and flows. Seriously, every track on this he gets it flow-wise but without the right beats it really sounds very out of place. It's either that or im still not use to this new sound in general. But overall it has a nice amount of tracks on the mix.

Yea Lupe should stick to rapping over the same mixtape beats he rapped over more than half a decade ago. GTFO lol. Lupe is allowed to grow. My thing is that if you're going to rap over electro dubstep, pick good beats. Don't rap over something because no one else has. If it's GOOD, do it. Lupe Is Back has a killer beat. The next song sounded pretty meh and I haven't finished it.

No, pick good beats from other good songs that came out in the same year. The beats actually aren't even the problem, it's the hooks. Get rid of the singers, please.

If this isn't everyone's worst song of the year, I have lost faith in you GAF-Hop.

Nah, but I WOULD like to hear Lupe go in over some modern beats that aren't some eurotrash shit. Like Lord Knows, or HiiiPower or some shit.

Still boggles my mind that Young Money hasn't reached oversaturation levels yet. This shit is ridiculous, with every song sounding nearly the same and featuring the same people.

I want to hear Lupe over Hiipower now. Seriously though, my issue with Lupe is that he is rapping over rock type beats. It's so annoying, I feel like I haven't heard him rap over an actual rap beat in years (SLR probably?) His lyrics and flow were pretty on point on the tape, the tape was solid overall. But nothing special, doesn't stick out too much.

It's fucking amazing how I'm seeing more and more YMCMB shirts around my uni by the week.

God I would be so fucking embarrassed to be wearing one of those.
Kind of like the OVO shirts though, but the stannery isn't there for me to feel comfortable wearing em.

You guys were talking about Jay Elec earlier. What's the newest thing he's dropped? I haven't heard anything newer than Exhibit C and The Announcement from him.

...I guess there was a reason why I didn't hear about this track. *sigh*

So anyways guys, what's your most anticipated tape 2012? (Aside from Detox and Act II)
Kanye's next album. 2nd to that is the next Slaughterhouse album (more curiosity on how they handle it than anticipation really). Third is KRIT's album.

Definitely Krit's album. Not even sure what else is coming out? If Kanye has one that jumps to the top. More Black Hippy releases.

Good music album. Could be really insane.
It's gonna be awesome simply because Kanye is involved with it, but I'm not sure what route it's gonna take as far as posse albums go. I left it out intentionally, he could easily just drop Pusha from the label next week and it ends up being a CyHi and Ye album haha.

But Teyana Taylor + John Legend hooks, Pusha, Ye, CuDi, Big Sean Don and Mos Def are enough to keep me hyped. Maybe even a few Common features too.

Oh I had no idea Kanye was dropping something new in 2012. Looking forward to it.

Me, I'm mostly looking forward to the new Gangrene LP and the KRIT album. Elzhi's new thing (named The Feed apparently) should be awesome too if it has Black Milk producing but I won't hold my breath for it.

I also stumbled upon news of a new Wu LP in May and then I remembered all the shit that's been announced but kinda fell off the radar: Liquid Swords 2, Blue & Cream, Swift & Changeable, Blackout! 3, The Crystal Meth... really, at this points everything that sees a release is a nice surprise.

wiz khalifa's got an album AND a mixtape coming out next year, so theres that.

AOTY, naw fuck that, album of the century. I cant wait to mix that shit in with my laundry and have the fluffiest shirts in town.

Nas, Krit, Curren$y, Blu/Exile, Ghostface, Rick Ross, Action Bronson/Alchemist, Kno, G.O.O.D Music The Album and maybe Detox (lol...='|)

Should be some announcements made early in the year as well as surprises.

It should be a good year.

Yeah, Krit is number one. Nas I have foolish optimistic hope for, the new Ross should give me a few tracks to play in the car, Kno will give me my chilling at home music, slaughterhouse will give me something to punch babies in the face to.

Aesop hopefully will get his new album out this year, as well his collab album with Kimya Dawson. Heard something about P.O.S having a new album in 2012 too.

And I'm sure there will be plenty of albums not announced yet or that aren't on my radar.

More excited for these than anything in your top list. Although I do want a good 5 albums off that list too.

Ya'll are leaving out the hottest release ever though, LIQUID SWORDS 2. COME ON GUYS BELIEVE.

If Liquid Swords 2 is coming out, that definitely has to be on my list. Regardless of how much of let down it is destined to be.

I thought God Forgives, I Don't was this year?

Related, and y'all know I'm not a Wale fan, or *this* Wale especially, but this is the hardest song out right now.

All this shit sounds the same. Ross at least is entertaining and can make up for the fact he's been rapping over the same beat over and over for the past few years. Wale just doesn't have the charisma to make me forget I've heard the song 800 times already.

Liquid Swords II is really a wildcard. You know there's the chance it's gonna be like the word of god out of the mouth of a toothless meth addict over some garbage leftover BGM. But it can also be the best thing ever. Who the hell knows...

Edit: overcast, might I inquire who that fine lady in your representative picture might be?

I have faith. GZA will get out of bed to write and record and the RZA will be back on his game since he's making every beat. Believe....

Oh, almost forgot; OB4CL3 COULD HAPPEN IN '12. That would smoke every release, not even close.

On another note, been listening to old Yelawolf, since I've only really heard Radioactive and TM 0-60. Its pretty good, but I can def see some of the influences for some of the guitary/banjo-ey stuff on Radiactive on his older tapes.

Idk, GZA has to be pretty confident to slap that title on an album. (The girl is Rosie Jones).

When I show people Yela, they shrug him off really quickly. Like right when they hear his voice, they are done :\

Smart, same here. All of this is on my, "probably not gonna happen ever list."

At least Madvillainy 2 is being actively worked on I thought. DOOMStarks had that one song released so hopefully it's also being worked on. Haven't heard shit about a new DOOM solo record though.

In an hour long interview released this month, MF DOOM said that he's finished with his part of Madvillainy 2, he says that Madlib has to do the finishing touches. Which will probably be awhile because of Madlibs MADGIBBS project and his Medicine Show stuff.
