What would it be to gain to stop the public NPD numbers? Dont forget that the NPD numbers still excist, and that a lot of investors have access to them. I honestly dont think that NPD numbers affect sales one bit. I cant imagine someone wants to buy a system and then look at the NPD numbers and say "oh, it sold less then i thought, then i wont buy it!".

What's the NPD year-to-date total for the Wii, PS3 and 360? I know the 360 is way ahead of the other two, but how much did the Wii and PS3 do?

PlayStation 3 – 2,679,948
Wii – 2,614,870
3DS – 1,667,000
PS3 and Wii are pretty close.

I hear that peripherals are up and there's strong consumer interest in the sharpshooter this month.
I really thought the Wii was doing a lot worse.
I suspect the PS3 and WII are within the margin of error for NPD.

Wii and PS3 started off the year strongly but have had lukewarm sales the last 7 months.(at least compared to previous years for the Wii.)

Some parts of the year Microsoft outsells Sony and other times Sony outsells Microsoft. Neither company is outselling the other on a consistent basis since the slim360 launched.

It's complicated, but I suspect that wont hold for the 4Q 11. I've worked the numbers.
This time of year Xbox's edge in the US tends to really overwhelm Sony's in Japan. Where in the slow months PS3's Japan sales are significant, in Nov and Dec they're not.
I expect a 360 Nov quite a bit larger than you all are expecting (again I have my statistical reasons, namely that any time in the past a hardware manufacturer has given BF week sales, their NPD sales for that month were at least well over 2X that, suggesting at least 1.8m 360 imo, conservatively). If that holds up their USA sales for the Q will be up hugely, and so their shipments should follow. Sony's will likely be flat or maybe up slightly if I had to guess. (and they tied 6.3 all in 4Q 2010 for reference)
Dont be at all surprised when in the end MS ships more 360 in 2011 than Sony ships PS3's either (MS is behind 800k for the year, potential is to gain 2m+ in 4Q). It's very likely to happen. Matrick will be right after all. I'll bookmark this very post to post it in the thread around early Feb after Sony and MS releases their ship #'s, lol.
It's a very slight outside chance MS could ship 10m this quarter, certainly 8m is reasonable.
A lot of people think the same. The Wii has dropped a lot. Now it is as bad a the ps3, at least in the US.
Wii (and Wii games) are still considered "safe gift" items for many grandparents. We'll see.

Not currently. 360 outsold the PS3 Black Friday globally. The 360 has outsold the PS3 for three or four weeks in a row now and will probably outsell PS3 every week through the end of 2011.
For the 2011 year PS3 looks to be about a million ahead of 360 globally in sales but 360 can pass the PS3 if their sales trends from Black Friday week continue to the end of the year.
