It's awesome!

Friend me Cyan@Maxrpg in game. Or just @maxrpg I think.

Added you.

And man, space combat is still as awesome as I remember it. They really should make a single-player game with this combat, it would be fantastic.

Radeon HD 5770. I just reinstalled them. Getting the same thing. I notice that for some reason when I choose 1920x1080, it selects 29hz. Even though I select refresh rate at 60. Could that be it?

The reason I like this game is because so many of the systems and ideas are what I want in a single player game. I honestly don't care too much about the MMO aspect (although I will enjoy playing with GAFers)

Is this game significantly improved from open beta? If not i won't even bother downloading it, I remember it being pretty terrible.

Same fundamental game with a tonne of polish applied.

If you liked the space combat first time around then it's worth going back into. If you didn't like the game at all in Open Beta then I wouldn't bother - while there are a tonne of new mechanics to the game the core remains the same.

Don't have time for a longer post, but I finished up the tutorial quests. I'm liking it so far. If you see the USS Strongbadia, that's me!

Did they ever implement any kind of diplomacy system? Are there any missions on your ship?

I like the space combat stuff, but that's not really the ST I enjoy.

I started up a new character a few months back when we were testing the F2P build, and became quite attached to this ship. She's just a customised Tier 1 Light Cruiser (you can make her yourself after about five minutes):

Also, you'll have this to look forward to in the Cloaked Intentions feature series as you level up:

Diplomacy is in. There are a number of diplomacy "smaller" missions you can run. If you rank up your Diplomacy level enough you start getting offered First Contact missions. They're not huge, but a nice change of pace.

To be honest, I wish there were more Diplomacy missions in the game proper. But there are quite a few to be found in the Foundry.

Question: Did they ever implement a first person/bridge view mode for space flight? Fucking loved that in Bridge Commander and was disappoint that it wasn't in this during beta .

And there goes my interest for this T_T. I'll probably check it out again after I get bored of TOR.

Fair do. I can understand why you'd want that control option - however given the speed of combat in the game it would be very hard to be successful with it.

Escorts for instance have very narrow firing arcs for their main cannons; being limited to a bridge view really put you at a disadvantage.

Taking mine time playing through the tutorials, really liking it so far. So far I have no problems with land missions but I love the space combat.

Space combat is undoubtedly the best part of the game.

Back when I played the game at launch, space combat was 60% of the combat time. Since then, I heard they sped up the pace of ground combat so that space combat makes up a larger % of combat time. Thank goodness for that.

Yay. Think I figured it out. On the video options screen, there is an option called half resolution. It was set to ON. I turned it off, and I notice the image much sharper when trying to log in. The picture of the captains chair. I still can't though, keep getting account server time out. :(

Is the "half resolution" or whatever option on? I don't remember exactly what it was like when I first started, but I know I was pretty unimpressed until I messed with the settings.

Just saw that option a few seconds ago. Lol

Space combat making a bigger part of playtime is fine with me as I would buy a game that consisted of nothing but it. Star Trek Tactical Assault was one of my most played DS and PSP games and somehow I like this even more.

So, those "fleet battles", do they normally lean tactics or lots of pewpewpew?

Early FA's are pew pew. As you progress they require more tactics. Romulan Temple (ground) FA is pretty intense for even prepared teams.

The hardest thing in the game right now is either "The Cure (Ground)" Special Task Force mission, or the Crystaline Entity FA.

Okay, so I'm in the game. As I mentioned, send E'Sel@Walshicus a friend invite if you like.

I've been playing STO for free for the past week and a half or so because apparently they announced those who once subscribed and had a sub run out, could come back 2 weeks early.

I've already made it to Vice Admiral for the past few days and I feel like the game is getting stale ironically on the day it officially becomes F2P for everybody else.

I wish I had a better computer, as it is my crappy laptop can only play this with the settings at the lowest. At least I can play and that's a feat with a onboard Intel x3100 graphics chip lol.

Well, so far the space combat is really cool but the ground stuff is just awful. Terrible animation, your character moves slow as hell, and the combat is just terrible :/ Really like the space sections though ^^

I fought this level.

They expected me to fight a Mogwai Escort vessel or whatever in a shuttle craft... insane really

You don't
have to fight it, if I remember? It's an optional encounter that's supposed to be pretty intense for a full team!

Good mission though!

I'll retry in 15 mins. I had to log off/on a few times within a 5 minute time. Maybe they have a thing in place for people that log off/on many times for no reason. I sure hope that is what the problem is. It was working fine when I started to first play though.

Good mission though!

I had to fight this level solo in those Episodic missions... I had to end doing some creative flying to full impulse my way past their sensor range and get through the huge doors before it started to fire at me, but then there were Scorpion Fighters and turrets on the other side anyways lol

but I am long past those levels now... I am in the middle of the Cardassian/Jem'Hadar True Way missions now and since I don't earn anymore personal skillpoints I find it useless.

I am mostly playing Special Task Forces against the Borg

Yeah, I'm mostly doing STFs or the Mirror Universe event these days. I really want to get full MACO gear for my ship before I move on to the Borg invasion of Defera... Feel free to add if you want someone to run STFs with!

Little consolation, but that will drop from lvl 25 as they add more Klingon missions (which are being worked on at the moment).

That said, you could probably power to 25 in a couple of days.

EDIT: Daaaammn... I've yet to try out one of the high level set pieces since they reworked the skill system prior to F2P. When I use my quantum slipspace drive my Captain's Yacht is travelling at Warp 30.

When you combine the Borg subtranswarp drive with the quantum slipstream you get close to Warp 30...something like warp 29.92 or something like that

Ground combat is faster, but still takes way too long simply because of alot of the older original content was so awful. You still have ton of quests that have you fight through waves upon waves of Klingons and other enemies. Newer content got the hint from all the complaints and has far less encounters in general, even in space which in alot of the original content had you fight wave upon wave of enemies and that too got boring.

Lot of community stuff is nice because it's done by trek fans who know the show is not about combat and they many times don't put in tons of enemy waves and have more emphasis on story creativity.
