Rarest Game You Own?

By the way. I have a copy of the LE Wind Waker with OoT MQ that I bought from a friend a couple of years ago. But the box is black... Everything else is in order though.

So I'm just wondering if there were official releases of that game with black boxes. It's a PAL copy. The cover has region code UKV, the game discs has region EUR and the manual has region SWE. I have seen other copies with black boxes on the Swedish auction site Tradera, but most I've seen have the golden box.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
While the game itself certainly isn't rare, I have a Halo 1 PC retail disc with"Manufacturing Gold" printed on it from beta testing. The now-defunct but totally awesome Microsoft Core Group provided those for a number of releases we tested. I had a Freelancer one as well, but it got lost when my parents moved while I was in college :(

Hmm, didn't the SNES games usually have that Nintendo seam like today's Nintendo games do? You know, the seam that you pull on to open the plastic that has the Nintendo logo all over it. I remember that F-Zero and ALTTP had that when I bought them new very late from Club Nintendo in Sweden when they cleaned out their leftover stock in like 2001 or something. Perhaps only the later copies had that. Man I wish I didn't open ALTTP. Would probably be pretty expensive today otherwise.

So, are there anyone here who knows what kind of seals Nintendo used for European Version NES-games? I have a sealed copy of The Legend of Zelda (without the logo band) that I fear might be fake, but I don’t dare to open it in case it turns out to be real. I’ve been holding on to it for about ten years now, and it almost looks to be in too good of a condition to be real.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
Only rare game I own is probably just Earthbound. I have some uncommon games like various Atlus stuff, but earthbound is probably the only one thats hard to find/cost a lot.

The only other ones that might be would be the PS1 version of Diablo, and the original black label FFVII with the floating i on the back.

I don't really know whats where and whats not.

Off the top of my head heres what I have hat I think may be rare:

Zelda GC Collector's Disc.

Zelda Master Quest GC Disc (That may actually be in the Collector's Disc. i forgot lolz)

Gold Zelda DSL.

Gold Zelda WiiMote

Green Game Boy Pocket without Battery LED

All of my Club Nintendo Things (lol) G&W Collections 1 & 2, G&W Ball, all platinums, etc.

I have plenty of other games that may be well but those are off the top of my head.

I think they just started with the Nintendo-seams around 2001. Maybe they re-wrapped them or something.

Probably Suikoden 2 - still tempted to sell it for a easy 100-150 bucks, but I can't bring myself to.>:

It is not fake, but it is store sealed. This is (99% sure) the GPS version of Zelda 1. Released in Spain, and probably other countries as well. So even if a store resealed the game, the game itself should be brand new.

EDIT: GPS just means that it has the region code GPS.

Dude, that's seriously awesome! I didn't know the SIGGRAPH demo was converted to Playstation. I thought it ran on "high-end SGI workstations."

That siggraph demo is only a video, not playable right?

The FF7 game portion is playable -- it's a little different from the game; Aeris is in your party despite not being an Avalanche member, and you can summon Leviathan.

The SIGGRAPH demo is a video of what was running on those workstations; you can't interact with it. FF6 characters battling in 3D to the tune of (IIRC) the Atma Weapon music. I suspect that it would look hopelessly primitive if I were to view it 15 years after its initial release! But at the time it was jaw-dropping, as was the even-more-beautiful FF7 demo. Good times.

Off the top of my head.

Ogre Battle - SNES & PSX
Tactics Ogre - PSX
Marvel vs Capcom 2 - Dreamcast.
Boxed Earthbound, Secret of Mana, FF3, etc. with the unofficial guides that used to be common back then.

FF7 always confused me with the misprint and the changes to the rating. Seen all sorts of claims. I've the original simple rating, without misprint, and never given it too much thought.

It's not that rare, but considering a few posts in here it fits:

Ikaruga for the Gamecube.

Naxuu.jpg
That's about as good as I can do, too. I also think I have my old Ocarina of Time gold cart laying around somewhere...

Most of my truly rare games I have long since sold, traded, or lost. I guess that's what makes them rare!

I don't have it anymore though I wish I did, but Tecmo Super Bowl 2. I had to jump through so many hoops back in the day to get it I remember. It was such an odd situation with that game. I remember I had an order placed with numerous over the phone retailers and had checked into it with them weekly until I finally got my copy.

The game is most certainly real, but as someone mentioned it is probably sealed in a store. Still, a mint condition Zelda in itself is worth a lot of money these days and it is definitely pretty rare to see these days. As for European seals in general, it differs from country to country. In my region (SCN) the NES games were never sealed, but I'm pretty sure they were in the UK for example. In the case that they are sealed, they usually have a seam on the back where they melted the plastic wrapper together. I see that yours doesn't have this seam, and that's what making me think it's a store seal. It's not universally true that they have the seam though, but for the later Zelda reprints like the big box (or rather non-small box) ones like that I'm fairly certain they should have a seam.

I think you'd easily get $200-300 for it though. Recently a Scandinavian collector found a whole 6-pack shipping box of brand new SCN Zelda II copies which he sold on a Swedish NES collectors forum for around that price per copy. It was also a later reprint of Zelda II with the regular long boxes instead of the smaller ones they released first.

I'm thinking Alpha Mission 2 or Super Dodge Ball for Neo Geo MVS.

I've got a few of the ones mentioned in the thread, too, like

Snatcher
Lots of 32X stuff
Robo Aleste
Ikaruga(DC)
Jack Bros(VB)
Steel Batallion (Xbox)
MUSHA

Vanillalite

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
I have a bunch of opened stuff like Bangai-O for the Dreamcast, PSO E&II + EIII for the Cube, a ton of old NES games etc...

For unopened stuff though it probably has to be this...

Nope, no european NES games were sealed, but some of them did have a small sticker on the lid. But no plastic wrapping as seal though. Some blister pack NES games that got released in France as well. It looks like this:

Mostly arcade stuff - not worth a ton of money but sometimes arcade boards don't pop up for sale for a few years at a time. Games like Mach Breakers, Eco Fighters and Sexy Parodius took me awhile to find, can't imagine ever selling em.

ooh. Didn't know that. Thanks.
I never cared much about collecting sealed NES games so I'll blame that for my ignorance :p

No problem :) I used to be heavy into NES collecting, but i havnt bought much NES stuff during the last two years.

But speaking of NES and rare stuff, and since i guess you like Ufouria, i thought that this could be of interest =) An Ufouria prototype/sample cart that i own. What is a bit cool with this is that it is an uncensored version. Instead of the birds dropping that 1 (or 10) ton iron stuff, they drop human shit instead haha. I guess this is how the Famicom version is, and then it was ported over to NES. But before the NES version went into final production, they removed the shit and replaced it with some 1 ton iron stuff instead.

Japanese Ace Attorney - First run copy, I can't even locate another one on the internet for sale. There's lots of 'Greatest Hits' version, but I feel lucky to own a "Black label" version. I'm not even sure where I purchased this copy.

I seriously doubt we'll ever get a digital release of this game, making it one of the rarest PSX games on the market.

That is how it is in the Famicom version yes. Do you know if it also has the Famicom character designs as well? Because they changed a couple of the main characters' sprites for the western release, including the guy you start out with. I assume not, but that would be really cool and actually drive up the price of that prototype quite a lot among collectors I would imagine :)

Always nice to see a PCB that actually fills up an entire NES cart as well. :D

My friend found 20 of those at a local garage sale a euro apiece years ago. He's sold a few on ebay but I think he still has about half. If anyone's looking for one of those I could hook you up.

The Euro distribution of the StarWing Competition Game Pak must have been incredibly different than the U.S. version, then. No way would anyone in the U.S. find 20 copies of the Star Fox Competition game pak at a garage sale, since they could only be purchased from the Nintendo Power Catalog for $50 each, IIRC.

LiQuid!

I proudly and openly admit to wishing death upon the mothers of people I don't like
Only semi-rare sealed game I have is a copy of Fire Emblem for Gamecube I bought during a Black Friday sale before realizing I didn't like that franchise at all, so I never opened it.

wiGZE.jpg

More valuable than that though are all the old SNES RPGs I've managed to hold on to over the years, complete with everything up to all the Nintendo power and/or survey cards and shit that come with them. Among them are all the ones you'd expect, FF2/3, Chrono Trigger, Lufia 1/2, Secret of Mana, etc. I'd take pictures but they're in a box that I never touch.

Also, not a game, but I recently received, directly from the game's developer, an official, unofficial, bootleg Twister Mania soundtrack as a gift for complementing the game's music on the Giant Bomb forum. I will be buried with this.

Whomever thought that was a good idea needed to be slapped. Blister packs are a spawn of Satan.

So...is this a Shenmue playable demo or trailer? Is there any content in there that didn't make it in the final game or was changed and modified?

(Also, who the heck's that guy in the corner?)

http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/shenmue/shenmue.htm
Sega was obviously hyping Shenmue quite a bit, so they released a tongue-in-cheek demo disc in Japan called What's Shenmue. It allows Ryo to wander around a portion of Dobuita and talk to different people. The ultimate goal is to locate Hidekazu Yukawa, Head Managing Director of Sega. Once Ryo stumbles across him, Yukawa-senmu (as he is nicknamed by Japanese fans) runs away and Ryo must follow him in a QTE scene. Eventually, Ryo catches up to Yukawa, but has to save him from some thugs who demand a "disc" of some kind. Then the screen flashes white and we see Yukawa sleeping in his office, which is filled with unsold Dreamcasts. He realizes it was all a dream and resolves to fulfill his missions of selling Sega systems. These cutscenes don't appear in the release version of Shenmue, although you can still find Yukawa and talk to him in the Japanese version. In the international versions, he can at least be won as a capsule toy.

There are a few more minor things in What's Shenmue that can't be found into the final game. Tom wears a different sweater, and one of the NPCs that block Ryo's path out of the demo area only appears in Shenmue II as a Japanese exchange student in Hong Kong. There's also a dog strolling down the streets (in the final game you only see cats and doves), and for some reason Ryo can crouch down, which doesn't seem to have any particular effect. Also, although it isn't included in What's Shenmue, early presentations of the game showed Ryo riding a bicycle through Dobuita, which also got removed before release.

TL;DR

Weird.

The 2 rarest games that I own would be these 2 I think
Recentlootfeb132011-1.jpg

Pokemon Shock Tetris for the Pokemon Mini, took a long time of waiting to get ahold of this one from eBay.

RecentlootAug012011-1.jpg

And Chavlo 55, which is a Japanese only GB game that was made as a kind of follow up to an unreleased Virtual Boy game, Bound High. Again took awhile to actually find a copy of it and to be able to find it boxed was soo happy.

Other then those I do have stuff like Shantae, Earthbound and a few other rare ones.

Probably Battle Arena Toshinden on the Game Boy.

I never, ever even see this game mentioned or acknowledged. It's a decent game too.

battle_arena_toshinden_11_box_front.jpg

The only Toshinden worth playing. Takara made some amazing ports for the game boy.

Only things rare I can think of off the top of my head would be MGS3 Subsistence LE, Valkyrie Profile 1 (US and non-value JP), Hyperdimension Neptunia LE, both PSone Lunar releases, Megaman Legends 1 an 2 (US and JP for each), Misadventures of Tron Bonne... probably some other things I'm forgetting or undervaluing. Ibara on PS2 seems to be pretty hard to find for a reasonable price.

I'm not sure much in my collection is exceptionally rare, though I have stuff like FFVII black label that's got a lot of sold copies but is somehow still in demand enough to fetch high prices on ebay. Are all copies of Radiant Historia rare or just the initial pressing that came with the CD?

I have Superman for ps1, it's just on a plain CD ROM though. My dad worked at Blue Sky Software and snagged it for me when they shut the doors. I don't think it's worth much money, but it's definitely rare. I still haven't gotten around to finishing it yet.

best seen in the classic "Shadow of the Beast"
The rarest are either the american release of grandia, marvel vs capcom 2 for the ps2.

I dont really have any rare games.

Really? There's a store called Gametraders down the road from me that have had a PAL copy of Ikaruga sitting on their shelf for donkey's now.

I'd be tempted to buy it if I gave a shit about the game.

I can buy it FOR someone and ship it to them if they want? Any PAL gamers want Ikaruga?
