Mass Effect 3 PC will NOT have gamepad support

I'm glad I don't like Mass Effect games because ME3 news has been nothing but let-downs it would seem.

That's the theme of Bioware for every game after Dragon Age: Origins. It seems to be getting worse with each title, though.

etc.

Too tired to go on. Feel free to go on here

Apparently the GUI team of ME3 were more strained than the "team" of Jamestown, Sequence or Bit.trip.RUNNER.

usually games are ported entirely to pc without any modification. in bioware case they always create a unique interface that fit pc gaming.

i understand why people are angry but for people who play with k/m they rather have good good pc interface than gamepad support.
Funny thing is the PC controls aren't even good. You have to cycle through weapons one at a time like in ME2, in ME1 you could bind each of your 4 weapons to a key (F keys by default). Also there are no menu shortcuts like ME1 (to go to Journal you have to press escape then click the Journal panel, rather than press J like in ME1).

I don't care about pad support. To me a Dev never has to take on a secondary control scheme if they don't want to so long as they properly support the platforms main method.

Sadly this isn't the case, or at least no default. I will need to check and see if remapping fixes my issues like it did for some people.

Lol Wut? Some of the most popular PC games are practically unplayable without a 360 controller including Batman and Assassin's Creed. You know, PC gaming exists outside of WoW, Starcraft and TF2.

I played both those with kb/m and loved it.

I'll never get used to dual-analog because moving the camera around is just too slow and imprecise.

^ pretty much sums up how I feel about the whole issue. Too many times I have played games with joypad support that do not take advantage of the mouse and keyboard. Many games with joypad support on the PC are inherently too easy with the mouse and keyboard. In my view a game balanced PROPERLY for the mouse and keyboard will be next too unplayable with a joypad.

Now ordinarily I would be going "yeah Bioware you go girl, support the PC's native control scheme". However the fact that mouse and keyboard control in ME 3 is so atrocious, limited and restricted by the consoles use of joypads I can't stand on Bioware's side with this one. They made zero effort to balance this game and take advantage of the PC's unique control scheme, they might as well have chucked joypad control in there anyway.

The simple reason why there is no joypad support is because Bioware couldn't be arsed to do it. It is pretty obvious that they just didn't care about the PC version and have shoved a crappy lazy port out the door.

Batman plays very well with m&kb...in fact, I prefer it to the 360 controller. One of the few action games that does m&kb right.

The only good thing to have come from the Games for Windows initiative.

Why play Mass Effect 3 on PC with a gamepad when there's the superior keyboard and mouse?

For a game like this and the fact that I have my rig attached to a big screen TV, I prefer a controller than KB/Mouse. So many other PC games have 2 UI's one for KB/M, one for Controller. Once the controller is detected, everything switches, hell some games allow both at the same time.

It is just being lazy and not giving a crap. I posted this in teh impression demo thread, but not getting the game as well because of this. I played 1 an 2 on the 360, loved them, but trying the demo out on 360 & PC, the 360 version looks like shit compared to the PC version, but without controller support, not going to buy. Maybe when it is $10.00 on a steam sale I might, but no way am I getting this for $60 without gamepad support.

Yeah almost every GFW multiplat supports gamepad, basically, along with a host of others. It's also nothing terribly new. Such seamless support with UI changes basically is, but PC games have supported additional input options for ages. You could play Quake 1 with a joystick if you wanted to.

Sounds like a company who doesn't care about they do and the quality of their work anymore.

A real developer wouldn't listen to the brass even if they told him/her to keep controller support out. Must be a lot outside hands messing with MassEffect

Volition
Eidos Montreal
Irrational Games
Rockstar
Vigil
Spicy Horse
Obsidian
Doublefine
Visceral
Crystal Dynamics

Know what that is? That's an off-the-top-of-my-head list of studios which manage to ship PC games with a good UI for both input methods.

To add to this....

38 Studios and Big Huge Games with their first game "Kingdoms of Amular: Reckoning" managed to support both KB/M and 360 Controller support and it was their first game, which happens to be published by EA as well. If they could fucking do it, why cant BioWare do it?

Sequence, a game developed by 2 people, allows 360 controller support.

Jamestown, a game developed by 3 people, allows 360 controller support.

Mass Effect 3, a game developed by hundreds of people in the course of 2 years, does not allow 360 controller support. Despite fans clamoring for the feature for the 2 previous games.

Apparently Bioware has no idea they are making games supposed to be played by players. I don't know who they are making games for - it's certainly not their "customers".

The PC modding community will surely fix this issue, correct?
Because hell if i'm going back to being hunched over a desk for a RPG like this. Hooking up my gaming PC to my TV is one of the best things I have ever done.

If ME1 and 2 are any indication, Xpadder (or another key mapper) is going to be your best bet.

They aren't bringing it to PC to be nice, they are doing it to make money and they will. Also they are doing it to push more people towards Origin.

I should be happy Electronic Arts likes to make money?

Snuggler's just joking.

Xpadder will help you, but don't expect the modding community to be up and running soon, seeing how coalesced is no longer an ini file and is encrypted.

You guys should be happy that they're even bring it to PC in the first place. What a bunch of entitled elitist whiners.

Really man...really?

For a game like this it is a given to support gamepads. ME1 and ME2 I can almost understand, but more and more people are playing on big screen TV's...so outside of MMO's and few RTS's I can see why no gamepad support..but for this game coming out in 2012, it should be a given.

Really dont understand how you would call anyone entitled elitist for wanting support for a gamepad in a action type game coming out in 2012.

Alan Wake is coming out tomorrow, and guess what both KB and Gamepad support!

I think some folks here would be shocked by how surprised people IN THIS INDUSTRY react when the prospect of using a gamepad for a PC game is suggested. Just happened to me last week. Talking about a 3rd person action game where the console versions are lead SKUs. The thought of using a wired 360 controller for the PC version? They looked at me like I was nuts... "Why would anyone play a PC game with a control pad?" they asked. So this isn't that surprising, but lame that they don't even put it in there as an option.

Alan Wake dev?

That's one thing we definitely agree on. The best PC gaming-related 40 bucks I've ever spent was on this 360 wireless controller. I seriously could not game without it anymore, unless it's an rts or moba. If a game doesn't support it or xpadder I just won't buy it, period. It's that important to me.

Lazy development on whose part? Certainly not Bioware's?! ::snort::

1. Jade empire isn't in the Mass effect series is it?
2. LTI Gray Matter did the PC port of Jade Empire

... you shut the hell up.

The original post was commenting on all Bioware games, not just ME, what does it matter who ported it?

And yeah. It's lazy as fuck of Bioware to not include controller support on a major studio release that the console was the lead platform for development.

So the current excuse is that it takes 'too much time'?

Well I have the perfect solution! How about y'all go head on and decrypt those input files so's we can fix what y'all can't. See, so little work and the perfect solution for everybody; I'm sure they'll see reason and do thihahahahahaaha....

Anyhoo, when does this hit $30 again? Because that seems to be how much they're making it worth for some reason.

There are actually several levels of purgatory for banned members of GAF which I won't link to here. Suffice to say they're full of racism, homophobia and console-wars, all the fun stuff which isn't allowed here by these fascistas.
