I unchecked that and have "no signal" at the top.

Ah, that stinks. Thanks for letting me know, though.

So after 6 days with the Vita, the "oooo shiny new thing" phase has passed for me.
There are a few small problems that really bother me and it's just... I don't know. The games I really want aren't coming anytime soon, if at all. And I'm just here with this thing that doesn't behave the way I want it to.

I don't want to sound down on it, because I'm still excited for what games may come. But it's just... I really wish this thing worked better in some other areas.

That's to be expected with any device whatsoever, though. I've never had a single piece of electronics that didn't have a least a few things that bothered me. You can't expect it to deliver on every single front. And you know it will improve with firmware updates.

So what's the deal with games like Uncharted shutting off network features while playing. Does that mean your friendlist people can't see that you're playing Uncharted Vita?

I get amazingly annoyed if there's even the lightest, barely noticeable scratch on any of my devices (smartphones, my psp, ds, computer monitor, my tv, etc). My eyesight isnt 20/20, but for some reason, I get eagle vision as soon as I notice a scratch, and it'll drive me crazy.

With that being said, I sometimes put protectors on, sometimes I don't. For the Vita, I probably will though.

If there's a factory placeholder cover on it out of the box I ususually just stick it back on after I'm done playing or use a case and microfiber the screen fastidiously.

Has anyone been able to connect to AT&T? I bought a plan, I see AT&T in the top left, but everytime I use something that requires data I get a NW-2026-0 code, which I'm guessing is no connection. When I go to connection test, it shows no connection.

Just looking at this lineup that I am deciding on it is amazing the diversity. May actually be the best launch lineup ever.

Lumines - puzzler
HSG- sports
WipEout- racer
Rayman- platformer
Uncharted- shooter
Fifa- sports

I'm trying to get NEAR to work but it says it can't pinpoint my location, can anyone help?

Other than that problem I have been absolutely LOVING this thing, it just feels so damn well designed. Really a joy to use, and the graphics on the sub-native res games like Uncharted still look really nice and sharp.

Can't wait for Gravity Rush!!! Oh and if anyone wants to add me, I need some Vita buddies, PSN id is JoeFenix.

Could you elaborate on what you're disappointed in with it? What Vita games not on the system are you referring to also? I'm curious.

I've had some minor gripes with a few things myself, and it is true that there are several games out in Japan I want here, but we don't even know when and if they're coming.

In what areas ?

My top 2 requests are:

1. Add double-tap to launch an app right away (by-passing LiveArea)

2. Multitasking fix

This is no way to live. Seriously. You have to let the little things go.

I still see my dad stressing out over little scratches on things he could afford to replace every week if he wanted to. It's not worth the stress you incur on yourself.

When I realized that certain items actually look more interesting with a little wear (snowboards, guitars, etc) and understood that this was a purely mental distinction, I became much more zen about such things.

Don't get me wrong — no one wants screen scratches marring their game enjoyment. But micro scratches? The kind you have to really hunt for? Not worth your stress.

I'm like that with anything I buy. 1 week and the novelty wears off. The vita will be the same unless I make sure I just dont blitz my way through the games. Good thing is I'm only buying 2 retail games at launch and a couple of downloads like escape plan and SSD. There's still at least another 4 games from the lineup that I want so I'm gonna take my time with everything.

Ive also still got the 3DS for my handheld fix should I reach a point where I'm waiting for the next big release I want.

What on earth did you buy it for, then? :p

Yeah I guess...
Thinks will improve with firmware updates. But I don't think some of my bigger issues will.

The two biggest issues I have so far (besides hardware and bugs and stuff), I don't think will be fixed ever.

I have problems with the content manager and sorting in general. And it's very similar to how stuff is on the PS3 and PSP... so I don't see a change happening there.

There is no save file manager. And since some games save directly to the cart, I'm not sure there ever will be. It seems I'm one of 3 people in the world who even cares about this.

I don't want to trash up the thread with my whining so I won't list all my problems. I'm still happy I have this and look forward to the future with it.

As for games, the current selection is nice I guess. It's just... I wish there was more RPG stuff. I would really like Ragnarok Odyssey and Tales for example. The western launch is just so... western.

What on earth did you buy it for, then? :p

"Potential."
I'm mostly a handheld gamer. So the 3DS and Vita are my next gen.

EDIT: Sorry if I missed you. I tried to respond to everyone, but I'm slow and dumb and tired.

Those are good feedback. I hope some of the game media people here can take them up with Sony.

I DEFINITELY care. The PS3 has a sorting options that puts all your related saves into folders, one for each game. That is awesome, but why can't I do that on the PSP? I don't want to have a messy memory card with like hundreds of Mega Man Powered Up levels floating around >_<

There are 7 other people within 6 miles of me with Vitas according to Near. Not only that - one of them was playing Ragnarok Odyssey. I had no idea I lived amongst such fine nerds.

That's crazy, I would never have imagined that.

FIFA is very good. The framerate gets choppy during close up animations (like during a celebration or when the team runs out onto the field) but the gameplay is very smooth. Using the rear panel to shoot is fun. Passing with the touchscreen is not fun. I'll stick to the buttons and analog stick for passing.

Ok, this is getting stupid.

I managed to connect to my neighbor's wifi (0 bar, i am sure it's going to be blazingly fast). Now it tell me 'software update required....'. I press ok. Next screen is back to 'do you want to use your account with a ps vita system',in other words, i am back one screen. If I keep saying 'use', i go back to the same problem. If i say don't use, it tries to set up a new account.

What the fuck. I must be missing something.

edit: ah, i guess i am just supposed to choose a country and go forward.

Use the default account first. You'll be asked to choose a country. After updating the system, then use your real PSN account.

The biggest mistake!
I know it's an awful reason, but I felt similarly for wanting a Vita sooner than later.

... Well, and rationalizing it with the games I want coming before a price drop PROBABLY happens and having gotten enough PSP games over PSN the system will actually have a valid excuse to be used rather than sitting pretty until the good games come. Plus I can probably pick off the launch titles I want as they go on sale or at least are part of a deal.

Played a bit of Hot Shots and Little Deviants.

Hot Shots looks kind of bad but its super fun so I don't give a shit. Little Deviants on the other hand is just shit, probably going to trade it in at some point.

Had the same problem. Just deny using an existing account, sign in as a guest and let the update happen. Then once you get to where you can access the PSN Store, use existing account then. Otherwise, you're going to be bouncing endlessly between those two screens

Oh, I've been rationalising the purchase constantly. But I'm still loving it - had it a few weeks now. Already sinking dozens of hours into MHFU with the new camera control, Wipeout is fantastic and so is Rayman. Loving the online integration too - there's a few little interface quirks and stuff that are to be expected, but I'm sure they'll be sorted out eventually.

Should just sell it on gaf... to make more then gamestop.

I'm not entirely familiar with the system do maybe this is a silly question. To transfer games to the vita from ps3 (valk chronicles 2), do I need any extra cords that don't come with the system? Or will my ps3 mini USB cables work?

Can anyone recommend any PSP RPGs for the Vita that are either turn-based or ARPGs? I played a bit of, and enjoyed, Gururumin, so something like that would be great.

I think instead of getting a Vita game, I'm just gonna buy a few PSP titles I missed.

Use the USB cord that comes with your Vita.

The Vita is even worse than the PSP. As far as I can see, there's no way to even see a list of your individual saves. So like, if I had 20 saves for a game but only want 2 of them, there's no way to delete the other 18 unless the game itself has that feature - and they rarely ever do.

The biggest mistake!

Can't you import Ragnarok? At least its somewhat-region-free.

Yeah I know it's a dumb reason. But it's just... I don't know. The PSP isn't doing to well over here and I needed something to make me feel good about handheld gaming again. I don't know...

I could import Ragnarok. But I actually care about story.
The game has a lot of voiceless text. I can understand Japanese just fine, but my kanji is absolutely terrible (yes... I'm illiterate). I would have to play with a dictionary and that's just not very fun.

The wifi on this seems really weak. If I walk to my bedroom one room over it drops from 3 bars to 1 bar. :| My iphone gets max bars no problem and so do my PSP/3DS.

Also the download speed over wifi is incredibly slow. I have it sitting next to my router at 3 bars and it gets maybe .5MB/sec. I'd heard about PS3's wifi downloads being slow but I'd always used wired. Now I can't!

Wait, can I download stuff on my PS3 and then pass it to my Vita through USB? That's probably waaaaaaaay faster for large downloads.

I got a chance to try out the Vita at the local EB tonight. First thing that happened as soon as I touched it, the sales rep calls over to me asking me if I want to purchase it because they have 2 extra First Buyer sets.

So, the screen is really nice and big. Impressive. Graphics from Uncharted and Gravity Daze(?) are nice, but there are some jaggies.

I think the system feels light. Hard to tell because of the clamp that is on the unit, you cannot really get a good feel. But the system is a really nice size, felt somewhat comfortable to hold, but again I would really like to use it without the leash.

Now the one major problem I had was with the button size. My gosh they are really small. There is alot of space available from an outward appearance, so why not some bigger buttons? Oh, and they also felt mushy. Could be because of the amount of use the system has gotten, but I prefer nice clicky buttons. Analog sticks were already worn down. :(

So, while I think the system overall is okay, I am sort of glad I decided to wait. Hopefully a redesign down the road will provide me with HDMI/Video Out, and maybe some small alterations hopefully regarding the buttons and the analog sticks.

Have you played Valkyria Chronicles 2 and other highly rated PSP games ? I'll be starting with VC2 tomorrow.

I'll just watch movies on Vita tonight (and try MJ demo when I get home).

Answer is yes, but I don't know if it will be way faster. Depending on where the congestion is, you may get similar outcome.

The whole YS series? ARPGS from the makers of Gurumin at least, if not like it.

Turn based, I would say Trails in the Sky, or if you like SRPGs, Tactics Ogre

Yes. I'm mainly a handheld gamer. The PSP was by far my most played console of the last like 5 years. I've played basically everything I'm even remotely interested in on that thing.

Wow, you have really shifted over to handheld. I'm just starting. Didn't like PSP's nub and DS's small screens enough to dwell on handheld alone.

EDIT: Argh, VC2 not up on Vita's PSN Store yet. Bought Escape Plan instead. ^_^

Crisis Core and KH BBS are still not up on PSN, right?

Also, are all PSP games playable on Vita, and can you map the camera controls to the right analog (if the game has camera controls)?

Wasn't planning on buying a Vita but after browsing this thread I'm on the verge of going on a hunt for one tomorrow. Thanks a lot gaf...

Btw has anyone bought the Trigger Grips accessory from pdp? Any thoughts on it?
