Well the man's not saying much apart from what's been flogged here on GAF repeatedly IMHO;

  • cool device - nice tech
  • Vita needs compelling games to compete in this day and age against Nintendo and smart-phones
  • Nintendo has plenty of million selling handheld franchises which move hardware, and questions what and where the corresponding Vita franchises are?

Valid but pretty obvious points.

That said, I finally tracked down a Vita demo-kiosk yesterday at my local GameStop, and was blown away. After having tried games the likes of Gravity Daze and Wipeout - I'm convinced more than ever, that Sony has created a device which could have an impact.

Looking at what the Vita brings to the marked in terms of control options, game fidelity, cross-platform play etc. in the PS3-Vita ecology coupled with the Vita's connectivity possibilities - I'm inclined to think that Sony has leapfrogged Nintendo and Microsoft and shown us the next-gen today.

I think I'm going to take one for the team and download Asphalt Injection when I get my Vita. It really didn't look bad when they played it on one of the GiantBomb vids. But I am also sad there's no Ridge Racer at launch. What the fucking fuck, Namco?

If you 're going to take the time to download it, why not download the demo instead so you can give it a quick spin...you can always unlock it right away if you decide you like it.

I downloaded the demo but I'm not interested enough to boot it up :)

I don't see why anybody would buy those. I have to say, though, I kind of enjoyed the Asphault: Injection demo. Seems to handle solidly. However, it just seems laughable to buy it at such a ridiculous price. And the graphics, while they would look fantastic on an iPhone, just aren't up to snuff on the Vita. I may pick it up when it goes down to about 10 bucks, which it should have been in the first place.

I agree... I have Asphalt 6 on iPad 2 (basically the same game) and it was something like $6 when it came out. It's decent for a $6 game but I expect A LOT more for $30 - $40.

My 16gb card arrived today. Hopefully transferring the data from the 4gb card to the new one is painless. Pretty silly that I can't pick and choose to backup individual save data, but whatever.

Still can't believe Ridge Racer is missing launch. End of an era.

Honestly though, they waited until just this week to delay the game? They had to have known long ago it would not be ready for the 22nd. Production, distribution, etc, and you are going to tell me the plug was pulled just this week? I call bullshit. Would love to hear the story, or any official word from Namco for that matter.

Probably recalled all the copies that were ready for shipping, reprinted the covers with 'GOLD PASS INCLUDED' or something equally stupid.

Wonder if it's just delayed for US or if it's delayed for EU/AUS/NZ as well? Guess we'll find out on Thurs when I look on the game shelves.

Can anyone tell me.....

A.) Where the Unofficial PSP (through PS3) compatability list is and.....
B.) Why these games aren't just in the regular Vita PSN store?

A) Post number 2 in this thread.

B) Uploading all the PSP games at once to the Vita store is too much for Grace Chen to handle.

I think the PlayStation fanbase doesn't get enough consideration when it comes to the franchises that Sony has brought to the gaming industry since they released the original PlayStation.

No, Sony may not have a singular title that has the iconic status of a Mario or Zelda, but look at their stable of franchises that are immensely popular, even if they don't all sell 8 million units:

Twisted Metal
Gran Turismo (they're most successful franchise)
wipEout
Uncharted
inFAMOUS
God of War
Ape Escape (that series is still going strong, surprisingly enough)
Hot Shots/Everybody's Golf
Jak and Daxter
Sly Cooper
Ratchet and Clank
LittleBigPlanet
Motorstorm

Yes, they aren't all on the same level of recognition to outsiders as Mario, but to PlayStation fans, those franchises are what keeps them coming back to Sony's consoles/handhelds. The fact that most of the titles above are making their way to the Vita is enough to get any big PlayStation fan in a tizzy.

I don't particularly think "killer app" is a helpful phrase, and I find it very subjective. What is a killer app for you, may not be a killer app for me or anyone else.

For example, I see in this thread many people snagged a Vita for Hot Shots. Some for Lumines. Some for wipEout 2048. For them, those games were the "killer app." For me, I snagged a Vita for Uncharted: GA. I'm also getting wipEout 2048 and Rayman, although I'm not a diehard wipEout fan.

Claiming that the Vita doesn't have a "killer app," is really only true in the sense that there isn't a singular title that will drive people to the store in droves. I imagine, in Japan, Monster Hunter will be that game. Here in the US, I can't say, but I'd imagine a CoD would entice a diehard fan who wants to take that experience on the go, and thanks to the dual analog sticks of the Vita, I imagine a Vita CoD would feel very good. Also, looking at the graphical prowess of the Vita, I can also imagine that would be another selling point to a fan of the series. I'm not a CoD fan, so that certainly wouldn't have been a driving force behind me picking up a Vita.

I could see Assassin's Creed being a draw for me, personally, but so would a Vita Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, or inFAMOUS.

Some of us PlayStation fans look at Sony's first and second party titles with as much excitement and fervor as Nintendo fans do at Mario, Zelda, and Metroid.

Just thinking about a Vita Ratchet and Clank, with the quality of A Crack in Time, or an HD remaster of the original 4 titles gets my heart all aflutter. A Vita 3D Dot Game Heroes would be heaven as well.

There is a market for Vita versions of legacy PlayStation franchises, even if they don't have the mass appeal of Nintendo's franchises.

Diversity has always been Sony's thing with the PlayStation consoles. There's certainly overlap among fanbases, but I always thought they catered to the "not everybody likes the same games" better than any other publisher in the industry. So much variety to appeal to equally diverse gamers and gamer tastes. The Vita launch is showcasing that with it's lineup, so I can't imagine how it's going to be when the system hits in stride in 6-12 months.

(sorry for the long post!)

I like to think Scamco realized they cannot fuck Americans/Europeans over as they did the Japanese, which is why they decided to finish the damn game and release it as a full product. In the meantime they can add 60FPS to that PoS worse-than-PSP release.

have a 20 dollar psn card. Debating what to buy for the vita. Escape plan/ Daxter/ God of War PSP. Tough choice. Im leaning towards daxter ...think it would look and play awesome on the vita.

I'm in the same boat as having a $20 PSN card to burn - one thing that pushed me over into buying a Vita. I'm thinking of using it for "Trails in the Sky" myself.

The gold pass doubles the amount of tracks and cars, plus adds some new tunes. All free day-one via download.

So that equates to a still measly 10 cars, 6 tracks.

Still 5 more tracks than the original Ridge Racer on PSone that sold for full price. 6 tracks isn't that bad for $25USD (That's what it's costing for PAL gamers in UK).

So far am I correct in saying we've had ZERO impressions from GAF peeps on:

-Ben 10 Galactic Racing
-F1 2012
-Asphault: Injection

edit: not that I expect anyone to buy these, just curious. :p

I have Asphault Injection, but havent redeemed yet. Waiting for my 16gb memcard to arrive.

Are screen protectors really necessary?
I'm the kind of type that doesn't wear a cover on my iPhone/iPad and who doesn't care about scratches on my 3DS and uses my nails on the touch screen.

Though, I'm a bit worried the logos on the touchpad will wear down and that the OLED screen will get scratches, because it's just plastic instead of glass.

I wasn't interested in Vita before and thanks to this thread my interest has increased a lot. So what is the expected battery life on the device?

Please tell me I'm freaking out for no reason. I redeemed Hot Shots Golf Online Pass (FUCK ONLINE PASS) and it shows in store that I own it yet it didn't download. Under download list, it doesn't show up and I can't purchase/redownload it either. WTF is this?!

Get the screen protector, it will increase the resale value of the system later. :DDD

Normally I don't use screen protectors but that video of the Hori screen protector posted a few pages back changed my mind. Unlike the rendering on the package, it looks really discrete when it's actually applied.

Someone else posted about this and I think came up with the consensus that it's just tied to your account, despite not being in your download history. Future of online passes?

Have you tried playing the game online to see if it works? If you can then you know that you already got it and don't have to download it from the download list. Come to think of it I don't remember seeing my onlinepasses from PS3 games in my download list.

It should be under services list, not downloads.

You have to stop doing this, man. Don't compare this to the earliest of RR games from the 90's. It's called relative progress. Stacking RR Vita up with it's contemporaries, even on the handheld market makes it an embarrassing rip no matter how cheap it is, and it ain't cheap, at all.

Just had my Vita freeze up on me...

Was playing Uncharted, and doing a charcoal rubbing, and it locked up 50% into the rubbing and I couldn't do anything. Had to hard reset the system. About to get back to the same part now. Hopefully nothing happens.
