Today, a teaser site at BaldursGate.com went online, bringing with it a stirring theme song and the franchise's iconic skull emblem.

The sparse website bears little else other than a quote attributed to Forgotten Realms prophet Alaundo: "The Lord of Murder shall perish, but in his doom he shall spawn a score of mortal progeny, chaos will be sown by their passage." Additionally, the site's background features character images from the 1998 original game and its 2000 sequel.

Though EA has yet to respond to a comment on the website, GameBanshee claims a new Baldur's Gate project is in the works at Beamdog. The company was cofounded by Trent Oster, a BioWare veteran who held various roles working games ranging from Neverwinter Nights to Dragon Age. Its credits include a remake of BioWare's MDK2 for the Wii and PC in 2011.

Speaking to GameBanshee, Oster confirmed only that his company has an announcement on the horizon, and that announcement does not pertain to the rumored Steam rereleases of the original games. A Beamdog representative confirmed this statement for GameSpot.

Welly welly well.

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
I couldn't make it through the first two.

Maybe they'll make this one like DA2 and I'll play it.

From the website source:

Code:
<!-- February 28, 2012 -->
<!-- Shadowy Figure- Raise Dead : Infinity Engine -->

<!-- For years, I clung to the memory of it. Then the memory of the memory. -->

<!-- And then... it returned. Better than it was before. -->

<!-- Pore over the tapestries and works of art hanging from our walls if you wish, Child of Bhaal... perhaps you will find a clue. But patience, ah... patience would reveal it all. -->

Realms would be fun but really, there should be more Planescape games. The setting is so laughably underused in games and so effortlessly evocative. Who has that IP now anyway?

Totally legit.

Companies usually tease sequels using a background with tiled old character portraits.

no thanks to a new dark alliance. they have lord of the rings war in the north for that. I would get excited about this announcemnt since BG2 is probably the best rpg and one of the best games I've played, but I have a hard time believing they will do justice to the series.

All they need to do is update it to HD, randomize some of the treasure and move some other pieces and the game will be perfect.

Keep the dialog. Keep the voices. Keep the gameplay mechanics.

i cant even bother getting excited for news like this. It will probably be a FPS of some kind. Whatever. Pass.

How about you wait and see what it is.

It's rumoured to be being made by some ex BioWare people who worked on stuff like NWN and Dragon Age.

Trent Oster and Beamdog already made an HD update to MDK2. My bet is that they're doing an HD update of the BG games and maybe tweaking some things.
